Lamarck Col 2019 

Yeh, I have been using the Ultra Raptors for a number of years. I have a new pair waiting for me when we get back to California to hike again in October after the two year break because of the pandemic. The trail above Lamarck Lakes was better than we expected. It was a long haul but it was worth it.

Thank you for making a comment. Yes, it was an awesome trail. From what we had read we thought the trail beyond Lamarck Lakes was pretty sketchy and we might not go beyond this point. We were pleasantly surprised to find the trail above the lakes in very good condition. It was our most memorable hike in our month lake visit to the Sierras.

We took about 10 hours. We lost our way down on our descent near the top which cost us about a 1/2 hour.

@@MidsierramusingBlogspot We were out ten hours but we had a couple of big breaks at the lakes taking photos and having lunch. Getting to the top was not the original goal as we had read that the track above the lakes was unmaintained so we were pleasantly surprised to find an excellent trail which spurred us on to go for it. You will see from my video that there are quite a few pockets of snow in the more the basins at higher elevations. Hikers have made multiple trails circumventing the snow. Which one do you take? Well, we took the wrong one descending and we got way off to the left. What alerted us to our mistake was the view of the lakes lower down was different so we knew we were in the wrong place. I admitt this freaked me out a bit as we couldn't figure out how it happened. Was this going to be a night out? Anyway we kept our heads and managed to find the "real" track and got down okay but it was just on dark.

Tx for the reply, John. I'll be 75 this August,2020 and see how far I can go. I plan to camp at the lower lake then attempt the Col. I've been wanting to do it for years. I did the North Lake to Florence Lake trans Sierra hike years ago and loved it. I didn't see another human for 2 days. Yours has been the best video of the trail.
