Im a big fan of Randy Blythe the lead vocalist. I have a lot of respect for his character. This song was written while he was held in a Czech prison for 37 days for the murder of a fan who died after a concussion at one of their shows. They claimed Randy pushed him off thus causing death. So the title 512 was his cell number. 6 bars laid across the sky, 4 empty walls to fill the time. My hands are painted red with the death of this kid, my future is painted black with uncertainty. He talks about embracing the beast you have to become to survive in prison. I respect him because they released him as long as he came back for his trial. He didnt have to go back because US has no extradition of citizens, but he felt it was the right thing to do and he faced the trial and was acquitted.

I was going to see Lamb of God with Gojira and The Black Dahlia Murder in 2012, but they had to cancel the tour because Randy had to go back to the Czech Republic and appear in court. Thankfully the charges were dropped.

Saw them open for Mushroomhead at a Large Bar /Small venue way back in the late 90's. They wernt as refined as they are now , but they kicked ass ...So did Five Pointe O .. most known for their song "The Infinity" from the Resident Evil Soundtrack....Great night.. Got to meet all of Mushroomhead except for J Mann since he had stage fright back then.. got autographs form them all...all but J Mann

This band will always hold a dear place in my heart since they were the first real metal band I got into that wasn't classic metal like Metallica and Pantera. Chris Adler is sadly no longer the drummer for the band, but he still remains my top 5. The vocalist as well is still one of my favorite screamers. His voice is so unique and identifiable. Like many have said already, this song was about his time in a prison for the death of a kid who jumped on stage at their show in Czech. They spent all of their funds getting him released between all the lawyers and travel and fees. Glad he came out free though. Last thing. YES. The biggest thing about Lamb of God IS their riffyness. That is one of the true defining factors that set this band apart from others is how their guitars are played. Nobody does that like them. It is 100% what hooked me back in 2002.

Lamb of God is one of my all time faves! You should check out The Passing/In Your Words by them next. It's the first 2 songs off their album Wrath but The Passing is a short instrumental intro that rolls right into In Your Words and it's all slightly different from what you've heard from them so far.

@@minak2195 Thank you, but to be honest, it’s not completely selfless. I was raised fundamentalist Pentecostal, so I didn’t go to my first concert until I was 21. I saw Metallica back in 93. My second one was Ozzy in 95. Then my 3rd one was Metallica 2019; my son’s 16th birthday present. That was a great year. We also got to see Slayer with LoG, Jinjer, then Slayer again. I did it partially for him, but also it was me catch up on what I’d missed out on for all those years.

This was the appetizer for fans who waited in the balance while Randy was held in a gen pop jail of the Czech Republic for a murder charge at a show. Sad what happened to the fan but Randy was finally vindicated and laid this one out describing the situation. The chorus is almost like a war cry. MY HANDS ARE PAINTED RED. MY FUTURES PAINTED BLACK. I CANT RECOGNIZE MYSELF. I THINK IM SOMEONE ELSE. Love Randy’s way of storytelling.

A lot of the gear we metal heads get now makes the post and mix part not as much of a hassle as you think. You can get a good noisegated, crisp attack with any good high gain amplifier, and even more easily with the new digital virtual instrument world. Of course having it all sit together takes a passionate master of the craft.

Here to drop yet another request for "Tallah - Vanilla Paste" - I know it'll probably get buried but dang if there isn't some tangible talent in this band. I'd be happy to see you check 'em out, their lead singer Justin Bonitz is very active on here and would most definitely be hyped to get your input on this as well!

I have always drawn comparisons between Lamg of God and most of the great composers! Also a gut growl like Randy has along with lyrics I could always understand compared with music that just blows your fucking head off makes these guys for sure my favorite metal band. They are simply the best. Keeping metal ALIVE! Amazing musicians. This stuff is complex and very difficult to play properly. People really under appreciate the skill this type of metal takes to play and sound like this. Sure you can smash away but you can't make beauty like this without some serious chops.

Always loved Lamb of God's groove. I'd also love to hear his opinion of the latest Zenith Passage track, "Algorithmic Salvation". It's one of the heaviest, grooviest tracks I've heard for a while.

Lamb is really good at a lot of things, but I think the way that the vocals actually have distinctively different tones/notes is what really sets them apart from other growlie bands.

I keep typing and deleting trying to mention somehow how great the rest of the band is, but to your point, Randy just has such range for metal.

@@fortyfive4632 i was trying convey that the band as a whole is good, but I am pretty picky about bands that are growl-centric. With Lamb, the growl is fantastic, but it is also done in a way that you can actually sing along easily instead of growling along if that's what you want to do.
