Ferruccio Lamborghini, an Italian manufacturing magnate, founded Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini S.p.A. in 1963 to compete with established marques, including Ferrari.
The company gained wide acclaim in 1966 for the Miura sports coupé, which established rear mid-engine, rear wheel drive as the standard layout for high-performance cars of the era. Lamborghini grew rapidly during its first decade, but sales plunged in the wake of the 1973 worldwide financial downturn and the oil crisis. The firm's ownership changed three times after 1973, including a bankruptcy in 1978.
American Chrysler Corporation took control of Lamborghini in 1987 and sold it to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V'Power Corporation in 1994. In 1998, Mycom Setdco and V'Power sold Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group where it was placed under the control of the group's Audi division.

The legend actually goes that the clutch of Lamborghini's personal Ferrari was a Borg & Warner and this was the same brand he used for clutches in his tractors. So after paying yet another clutch replacement Lamborghini asked Ferrari why he paid roughly ten times more to have a Borg & Warner clutch replaced when he knew the clutch was very similar to the Borg & Warner clutches he used in his tractors. Enzo Ferrari tried to tell him that a Borg & Warner clutch was suddenly worth 10 times more if it was mounted in a Ferrari but Ferruccio Lamborghini thought that was utter nonsense - especially since the clutch kept breaking down and obviously wasn't any better than those in his own tractors. Lamborghini was a businessman and realized he was being conned by paying several times the actual cost of a Borg & Warner clutch and straight up asked Enzo Ferrari if he could explain to him why the clutch was so expensive. Ferrari then told him that he understood tractors so maybe he should stick to driving them instead of Ferrari cars. Being a shrewd businessman he knew he was both lied to and insulted so he decided to make a better car.

Just want to point out that he did not buy the companies really himself, but Volkwagen (or one of their many daughter companies) bought them. Piëch was the CEO of Volkswagen and still is a shareholder. So yeah he is fucking rich but he did not buy three companies in one year. Besides that they "only" bought two companies and one brand. They bought Rolls-Royce, without getting the rights to the Rolls Royce brand, BMW got that one, in 1997. In 1998 Volkswagen bought Lambo and the brand rights for "Bugatti".

fun fact: Lamborghini tractors are still in production today. You can buy a tractor and say you own a Lamborghini... but don't think that's a cheap way to own a lamborghini, as most of tractors will set you back $200,000 each.

Great video! It presented the information in a very digestible way without it being overwhelming, loved it. Just a thing, in minute 11:05, the photo of the Lamborghini isn't the Gallardo, it is the Aventador. The Gallardo had a more square old design without so many angular lines in its design. Again, great content!

Enzo couldn't care less because in 10 years alone (from 1960 to 1970) already made at least 5 of the best cars ever made in every department : Gt, Race, special editions, one shot cars , prototypes .. It's enough to look at Ferrari catalogue in 1966/68 to understand why Enzo wasn't concerned about Lamborghini .

Duude, great video. But Im doubting its accuracy. Since you have mistaken sooo many images in the video. Some are for example the image of Pinochet or the Aventador instead of the gallardo.

I had a black Lambo once .... it was one of those you wind back and release, eventually the spring mechanism broke and I complained to Ferrucio, he told me to stick to stuff animals because I was driving it incorrectly.
