Good morning chaps.
While A lot of you are on lockdown, I volunteered to work for the health service and now I suddenly find myself in the opposite situation!
I work as a mechanic during the day and care for the mentally ill in the evenings. The last job is very rewarding but if that cnut Covid19 turns up, its not going to be pretty.
This means that one video a week is about all I can manage but this new one here should be of some interest and keep some of you occupied for half an hour or so 🤘

Base gaskets that come with kit are for using 58/107 crank 😉but since ur using a 60/110 then the 3mm base is used but you already know that 😆

To check the squish. It's the distance between cylinder head and piston. 1-1.3mm is good. Any less and the piston may hit the head and you will have too high compression and it will cause pre-detonation (pinking). To low and it will run hot.

I’ve just put a 175 on my old series 3 LI The squish is 2-5 . Too big ? Does that mean taking the gasket from under barrel and using stuff from tube as a gasket? Thanks in advance 😊😊

Hi Rob I need your great advice on choosing a new exhaust for SX 200/68 I have put a new BGM 225 kit in with a 30 mm Dellorto carb it’s going lovely apart from the very loud pipe which is a Scootopia Clubman no to old ,I want to stick to a clubman for the retro look but need to tone it down a bit so thinking of a BGM 4 or a Sip sport ,Which would you recommend for a quieter sound and good performance ,thanks for the Vids Rob always a great watch
@kickbackgarage

Bgm clubman is nice but the bgm clubman sport has a very nice tone and delivers a bit more mid range too. I haven't hears the sip pipe.

ROB The BGM RT 195 Kit requires a 200 inlet manifold. As part of your 175 re-build do you have a video showing this manifold and the setting up of a carb (the carb used)?
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 2 года назад
Yes. The carb setup is the dellorto video. You can use all 200cc inlet manifolds. I prefer the bgm with blot on rubber but have used the mb one too.

Hi great video. Question. Do you have a video on taking the race off the crankshaft before installing the new one? Heat and grind or? The 205 bearing in the mag housing I mean for my jet200? Also if you don’t have a crankshaft puller tool what to do? Can I use the original gear with some spacers?
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 2 года назад
If you don't have a race puller you can fit jubilee clips above and below the race and carefully cut it off with a dremmel. You don't need to cut all the way though because it will crack off when you are over half way and apply some heat.

I think thetwo sets of rings are in there as you need to change them very early on ?
@kickbackgarage

Nope. Its nicasil. Ive fit 5 of these kits now and always just one set of rings.
@stevetowers8282
@stevetowers8282 4 года назад
I was reading a recommendation from Mark Broadhurst on the f/b rt 195/225 page the other day , that said the rings should be checked at 1000 miles..just assumed that’s why they give you two sets?

ok dumb question; TV 175 2/3 used a longer 116mm conrod, am I correct in assuming that no longer matters because you're just matching your new 110mm crank to the RT 195 kit that is made for all small blocks? If you were trying to use the kit with the standard crank (don't worry I am not), I'm guessing that you have to shim the hell out of it for it to work. Last thought, since the TV 175 sort of falls in between a small block and a big block, is there anything else that needs special attention? I know it falls into the small block category but was the case inlet longer to accommodate the longer rod? Thanks, keep up the good work!
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 4 года назад
Hi Patrick, not a silly question. The original TV crankshaft is reportedly one of the smoothest out there. It is possible to get the RT tuned to suit a 116 rod but 60 stroke will give the crankshaft big end bearing an easier life. I know that Mugello came in a version for a TV crankshaft. The only other difference between a TV and Li, is the gearing. there is quite a big gap between 3rd and 4th.

Thanks for the video, I’m using it to help me build the same spec 60/110 BGM crank with the 195 kit. Using a 3mm base packer. Have the same result that the transfer ports line up perfectly and the exhaust is .5mm below. BUT when I check with the BGM instructions it says : “The piston crown should sit 0.5 mm below the bottom of the transfer ports.* This gives the right transfer timing.” Are the instructions wrong? (I confirmed that they are the ones for the 60/110 crank). Thank you!
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 3 года назад
According to the designer (Mark Broadhurst) the bgm instructions are wrong. The exhaust port being lower was actually an error under the design stage but it doesn't affect performance, so they kept it like that.
@alexandercajko700
@alexandercajko700 3 года назад
@@kickbackgarage the instructions say nothing about being .5mm under the exhaust port. (I will modify this later on. So the exhaust is level) . BGM instructions say the piston crown should be .5mm below the transfer ports. (When in both of our builds using the same parts the piston is level with the transfer ports). This is also not correct , right? Thanks again!

greetings rob....i've got a quick question if i have a 125 with a SH1/18 jet 99 starter 45 piot 60 and i put on a tv175 barrell with a 175 conversion piston..the ports all line exact with this stroke...squish is like 1-2mm and all is good...i cant get it to fire? is my timing off with same line up? or is my carb under jetted and not enough fuel to get busy... i know the answer...kit up to the 195😊but in the meantime i have to make more cheese so continue to jet up? OR buy bigger carb OR cut out some metal in my small manifold and jet up OR? tHANX rOB, YOUR VIDDY HAS MADE LAMBRETTERING MUCH MORE better than vespering anyday!

You always need to re time ignition if you change. What ignition are you timing are you running? I've never used a standard carb but think 19 was used on 175.
