Very informative. I'm a newbie at surf casting. I do have a GSB 11MS, but probably don't know how to cast it. I went to RI a few years ago and went to a very nice beach. My casts did not travel very far and seemed to veer off target by a lot. I was fishing 20-25# mono on a Penn Slammer 4 4500. I was told by one of the large tackle companies that my reel was undersized for that rod, so ordered a 6500HS. We will see what happens. The new reel has 40# braid. Like I said, I'm new to surf casting, so probably don't know how to cast.

My 11 foot old school GSB 3-7 built up off the rack from CMS is New Bedford slayed it on poppers in the canal this year and it handled my first fish on eels like a boss. For those two specific applications I’m going to agree that in my short experience thus far… I can’t think of a better rod.

I think for eels pencils and spooks there’s isn’t a better rod. I hate the feel of the GSB, but one must realize it’s quality for application. My St Croix Avid is phenomal fishing big current where sensitivity can mean catching a nice fish and not at all. I dont like the feel of the GSB but it can be better for keeping fish on your plugs too. They have a moderate action which keeps the fish pinned a bit better. Moderate fast/fast action seems to have the best feel for bucktails, darters and swimmers but there’s great advantage to both rods in different applications

I love standing next to a guy with a GSB watching him put so much effort and lean into a cast and I can flick a plug just as far with pretty minimal effort on a faster action rod. For the 5-6 hour nights, 6-7 nights a week, I couldn’t keep my shoulder going casting a moderate action rod.

@@rainsong7327 sorta depends on more than that. Do you need to lift a fish out of the water ever? Do you usually fish at night or day? Do you fish inlets at all? Most common plugs?

@@rainsong7327 there’s obviously a lot more to it… including your braid… guide train… rod length… casting form. So on. But you might try a st. Croix Legend 11’ (I think they offer a 1-6) that would work well You might also try a century slingshot 10’6” or 11’6 depending on how tall you are.

I agree! In my opinion you cant get any better than a gsp! I fish a 1081m 1-3oz for eels, a 1081l .5oz-2.5oz for the lighter stuff, and a gsb 10m 2-5oz for the surf and larger stuff. I'll be adding an 11' os to my collection this yr for the surf/canal. As far as the canal goes the lami 11 ft canal rod is in my opinion, by far the best jigging rod I've ever used. It's a telephone pole! I've fished 10oz jigs in fast current and had no problem. It has the backbone to really pop a heavy jig. I can't not mention the Ron Arra OS line either! All great rods. Thanks for the great info. I bought a GSB 11' rod this fall so only had it out one trip. So far I'm satisfied. Nice rods.

Thanks for showing your GSBs. I have a 10ft Lami with a 6500, it’s not my favorite but it certainly gets some solid work done ✅ I would probably eel with my 9ft Tsunami because it has such great casting action with lower weight. My chunking rod is a 12ft Penn and 850 reel, that’s a beast for big weight rigs. Good stuff! Keep on..

GSB1201L hands down one of the best rods. Straight up tank/ bulletproof setup with VS200. Had one custom made years ago.

I use an 11 ft tsunami airwave rated 3-5 for slinging eels. It works like a charm.

I’ve fished the gsb’s an they are great rods, but I have my Black Hole Cape Cod Special surf ll, an I love the rod idk maybe cause I’ve been using it for a while now, I own a Night Shift that I use for poppin an jiggin, the Lamiglass is a great rod
