This was my first hike through Lamington National Park which is located in the hinterland of the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia.
To say this place is spectacular is an under statement. This is by far one of the best hikes you can do. The flora, fauna, and the landscape are all simply stunning.
I took the Border track onto the Box Circuit track. A round trip from the carpark is approx 11km. The Box Circuit takes you to Picnic Rock, Elabana Falls, and Box Log Falls. Along the way you will walk through some of the most incredible rain forest, with many little streams and creeks along the way.
Hopefully this video does the place justice, and I hope you enjoy some of the videos and photos that I captured along my walk through the park.
A couple of things to note when doing this walk:-
1) There is good parking just down from O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat.
2) The Box Circuit track can be very slippery and muddy after rain, so make sure you have good sturdy footwear with good grip and good support as you will need it.
3) Make sure you have a good level of fitness. It can be a challenging walk, especially when the track is wet, slippery, and muddy.
4) Make sure you take plenty of water with you as the Gold Coast is a sub tropical area, and the heat & humidity can cause dehydration.
5) Do hike the trails as early as possible to beat the crowds. It's so much nicer when you dont have the sounds of any other person and you get to hear the birds singing in the forest.
6) This is natures play ground. Keep an eye where you are putting your hands and feet as I came across a Red Belly Black snake, and a Carpet Python, who were both sunning themselves on the tracks.
