Having picked the first 2 up myself out of curiosity I would agree that these need to either be cheaper by $5-$10 or they should have better quality control and details. I'm not a fan of opening doors but I think having the engine be visible as an added detail would be great. It's tough when a 1:64 Kaido House Mini GT has better detailing than a 1:43.

I'm not a fan of 1/43 scale but I have them that have better paint and detail and only 7.99 each by Kinsmart. It has opening doors with full interior and even a pull back action. A toy maybe but very well executed. So 25.00 for hot wheels, I don't see that happening.

@@johnrocha6212 I believe Kinsmart also started to jump into 1/64 scale as well with "Postercars" as their brand. But rather than competing with Hot Wheels, they targeting Mini GT & Auto World

These won’t sell well…at $25 they are way overpriced, i just had the opportunity to buy 4 of them and I skipped right past em. I can get a bigger 1:24 or 1:18 Jada for like $15-19…and the hood, doors, trunk all open up as well as the detail being much closer to the real life versions. In fact I just bought a pretty cool Jada 1:24 Camaro wide body for $15.89

Hot wheels is no longer a king of 1/64 as other brands overtook them in terms of quality and adult collecting. I think they are trying to go to 1/43 because they understand they are not able to stay relevant in 1/64.

25 DOLLARS?! At that price point, I believe you can get yourself a solid 1:18 Maisto model that is more detailed and has opening features. I do agree with you that this 1:43 line is probably focused more for the EU collectors, who do collect 1:43 scale. Personally, your video provided insight and I gotta say.. these actually look cool but I wouldnt have space to keep these in my collection. Great showcase John

I saw them today in a German Smyth Toys. Here in Europe 1:43 cars are the ones for the serious collectors. Spending between €50 to €100 seems quite normal for the finer ones. But what these serious collectors expect from a car at this scale is equally serious quality. And we are talking about photo-etched door handles, windscreen wipers and other details. And this is where Hot Wheels just doesn't deliver at all. The paint is too thick and the details aren't fine enough. Flashes from the moulding process, fingerprints in the paint and imperfections in the cast are simply unacceptable. These Hot Wheels 1:43 cars really are more alike to the cheap cars at this scale with pullback motors you can buy at grocery stores. Years ago Hot Wheels already did cars at this scale and it didn't work out then - so why should it now?

Theres plenty of things that initially didnt work and later did, other than that I agree. The wheel arches of my Z06 1/43 Hot Wheels has traces of some sort of Dremel tool or something? Anyway, really poor quality it seems. Especially for the price point.

I enjoy holding larger scale models better than 1:64. Realistic mirrors, full details, and model specific rims are nice. I am guessing the first 2 models may skyrocket in value IF this takes off. Moving parts may be in the future if sales are slow. But sometimes that glaring gap from the moving doors, hoods or trunks take away from the car’s beauty. Most of the time, we’ll just be looking at it instead of opening the moving parts or even spinning the wheels. Price is high, cos Mattel sees collectors reselling RLCs and Dioramas for crazy amounts. $15 USD seems more fair, but they’d be gone in a flash for a first run production.

I definitely like 1/43 scale, and it started when I got into hot wheels (F40 Comp 1/43 Elite, Plymouth GTX 1/43 RLC). The amount of details you get is perfect and is small/big enough to collect, whereas anything bigger is just too big. I like these new car culture 1/43 too, but we need more models - and they made their ever popular models (Skyline, 510 Dustbin, Gasser, etc.) the series would be very popular with collectors. Or even they used the 1/43 scale to make their off-road 4x4 style cars with working suspension and chassis (Willys MB, ‘52 Power wagon) like they have been with the RLC’s it would also be cool.

I've heard because it opens up, and you can reseal them. People have been putting old 1.43 models in and taking them back for a refund. I think they need another layer to stop this happening because if they go back on the shelf, someone who doesn't know what they're buying could buy for a gift for a child and it's not an hotwheels car

OK this is all I'm going to say for this scale and price point: 1) I've seen this advertised locally for R439.00 ($24,49). 2) Bburago sell the same scale (and quality) locally for R49,99 ($1,39). I think the above pretty well sums up whether I will collect this scale from Hot Wheels or not (considering I don't have any of the Bburagos and they make some nice castings or models). That thought about Hot Wheels 1:64 having a personality and not being 100% accurate models is something I agree with and is one of the reasons why I like Hot Wheels. When I look at these 1:43 models, I don't recognize them as Hot Wheels cars, I just see them as accurate models of the real car. Sometimes I do want an accurate model, and that's what MiniGT is for me. I also don't have space for a 1:43 car. All of my cases and displays are for 1:64, so I don't know what I'd do with a 1:43 car. I keep wanting to compare these to 1:32 scale, which isn't the same, but most 1:32 scale cars I've seen are around $15, and a lot of 1:24 scale cars are $25. The price is a bit much for the HW 1:43

I totally agree. I love hot Whees because of the fact they make the cars with funky livery’s and modifications that other brands don’t dare to do or bother to get the license to do. Mini GT etc all make cars as they come out the factory and don’t add their own flare to them. I love hot wheels doing their own take on the cars which gives the car uniqueness and more personally.

You can pick up 1:18 for that much, better quality and more detail. I'm glad you do these videos, because I had picked up that Countach, opened the package and heard that noise from spinning the wheels I would have returned it to the store in a heartbeat.

Appeared in Australia about a month ago in KMart stores for $32AUD. In the last week they have been appearing in Big W stores but the price is $34. They were selling out in KMart but Big W seem to be not moving. It will be interesting once the Nissan hits the shelves. I got the first two as they are new but once the Nissan comes out I’d say that will be it for me unless I like the model. The base plate should be metal with more detail otherwise they feel like a cheap toy.

I’m also from Australia, so it’s interesting that the 1/43 cars have rocked up here. The price point is unfortunate as they’re competing with the likes of Kaido House, Tarmac Works & Inno64 for my Aussie dollar, albeit those brands are at 1/64 (or in Kaido’s case thereabouts 🤔) & look to have more finesse in detailing compared to the bigger Hotwheels… I do have some legacy 1/43’s from decades ago, the question is will it tempt me to check them out & regrettably at that price point maybe not.
@sloanketteringgg
@sloanketteringgg Год назад
I had these in my hand at target, and before I made it up to check out, I put them back on the pegs. These models just don't do it for me in 1/43 scale. I agree with what you said about the exact replica aspect and the 'boring' comment you came across. I feel like this scale of hotwheels would be much more appealing to collectors if we could get cars like the vw panel bus, the datsun wagon, the slammed nissan hardbody, or the '55 gasser, etc. Knock the price down to about $14.99, and bring the cool stuff that your consumers already love to this scale and I think they would be much more successful.
@rubenlopez7142
@rubenlopez7142 Год назад
You cannot compare a Hot Wheels (regardless of the scale) with an Ignition Model by any stretch of the imagination... Ignition Model is way beyond HWs in terms of detail and quality; technically, in a league of their own! In the other hand, there are brands like Maisto or Greenlight that are more experienced than HWs in this particular scale, which models are way more detailed than these ones, with a price under $20 (including an acrylic box in some cases). I think that at that price point, it's quite difficult that HWs can keep this line successfully.
@MaximusOverdrive
@MaximusOverdrive Год назад
Been collecting 1:43 for a while, mainly just to get great examples of some of my favorite cars in specific specs and specific oem colours. While these Hot Wheels are a decent attempt, there’s a lack of diversity in the castings (too many current models) and extreme detail you see from Minichamps, Kyosho, IXO, or even Postercars. The big issue I have isn’t any of that though, it’s the price. For that money, you can get models from the aforementioned brands who’ve been doing this stuff for decades and have a diverse catalog of models. More of a fan of the traditional acrylic packaging too. Carded 1:43s look like they’d take up too much space and wouldn’t be easy to display in the package.

i bought the first two. They're well built, heavy and very detailed. I would have liked to see an opening hood and at least an engine plate, if not a full engine, I'm not sure that's possible at this price point. $18.95 seems like it would better reflect what you get for your money.

$15 sounds like a fair price for what the cars are. As you said, they look great from a standard viewing distance, but start to show a good bit of flaws in the paint when seen up close. Hey John, here's my opinion as a middle income collector from the EU. 25$ is way too much, I feel like 10$ would be the right price for Hot Wheels to enter into the 1:42 market or at least 15$. I was disappointed by the visible poor quality control with the clear misapplied paint and scuff mark. I also expected better wheels with free floating brakes to look realistic, in addition there's a lack of moving parts which are standard for such a scale. I hope Hot Wheels make some changes to their 1:42 line up, or at least add some crazy tuned cars and liveries.

I used to collect 1:24 and 1:18, but obviously there are cost and space considerations there. Never had interest in scales other than those and 1:64 unless it was a very specific car. (I used to have a huge Corvette collection) I think these would be more appealing at half the price, but when you can buy so many good 1:24 for the same price or less.... makes it a hard sell I think, at least for me.

So to John's point on exact replicas in these smaller scales being possibly perceived as "boring", I do think if Hot Wheels, with its instant brand recognition, did the likes of Drag Buses or Kool Kombis in 1/43rd then more people would be interested in them. Let's leave the exact replicas to the brands that already do a great job with them. Could you imagine how awesome a Kool Kombi in 1/43rd scale would look!!!

Hello, I am an International collector of Hotwheels and I will not be buying this scale of Hotwheels, because of price. The most similar brand which I have seen is from Kinsmart and bburgo in my country and both of these have different uses like Kinsmart has pullback action with opening features and bburgo has special display for showcasing the car in an acrylic box. My suggestion for Hotwheels is. > To change the packaging in which the people will be able to see details just like kinsmart. what I mean to say is that lets suppose you drive a HONDA and no matter what the car dealership tells you you just cant buy a BENTLEY. the quality is extremely good but the price for that scale is also very very high. And if they like to make their car appealing for collectors who only like to display their cars then please change the packaging with an acrylic display so that the collector is able to save the car from dust and some other elements of nature. I do believe that its a good idea but I think hotwheels needs to make itself clear that either they want to compete with toy car which is intented to be played with like Kinsmart, for that hotwheels need to make opening features and lower the price. Or to compete with higher end models, they need to add a kind of display like adding an acrylic box to save the car from natural elements. For this the price can be justified. Thanks alot for the video

I love 1/43 scale, but I don’t collect them. I’ve got a few Bburagos, but easily the best is TSM, or True Scale Miniatures. They’re a sub-brand of MiniGT, and they’re pretty incredible. Mine is a Bentley Conti GT Convertible in Passion Pink. They’re about $80 a pop, so pretty pricey, but it’s definitely worth it. With the Bentley being open top, the interior is easy to see, and for good reason. These things have more detail than some 1:18 scales! Back to Hot wheels, it’s nice to see a sort of mid range option, so not as cheap as the Bburagos, but not as expensive as the TSMs. The main criticism I’m hearing is that they’re not collectible, which is fair, but I’m fine with them just being sort of a desk topper or little centerpiece. To John’s point, they try to replicate the real cars exactly, not exaggerating anything. That is definitely true, and that’s probably why it won’t sell a lot. You’ll only buy the model if you like the real life car. Edit: btw the TSMs are resin so the wheels don’t spin.

Loathe the sound they make when they roll. Not a deal breaker, but as a Hot Wheels collector whos been into the hobby from the begging of time. Collecting these would be like starting over. Buying all my DVDs in Blue ray format, and it's just not gonna happen. I have received a few bigger scale Batmobiles , Muscle Cars, etc..as gifts , because peeps know I love cars in general, but I won't be collecting these. I think they are great if you want an alternate size to one of your favorite Hot Wheels castings. Make me a Nite Burner wit spinning turbine or Cloak and Dagger with removable canopy in that size and I'll dish out 10-15 $$$ as a one time deal. For that price I expect moving parts, but I'm sticking to mainlines which are the easiest way for my collection to grow. Thanks for the showcase tho. They do look fantastic.

I know that this is a very petty question, but when you were slowly spinning the Mustang around I thought that I might have even seen a rear view mirror and sun visors. Am I imagining that? If not, that’s even MORE detailing for these cars. They are way COOL! I believe that I will get the Mustang.

I mostly collect auto world, greenlight, m2, the like but do also think I'm in the minority that really enjoys hot wheels fantasy castings. Hot wheels really is the only company out there right now making high quality fantasy castings, maisto isn't even an option, and It'd be so cool to see more premium fantasy now that you mention the hot wheels fans maybe liking a 1/43 scale kool kombi or drag bus, which aren't exactly fantasy but I think are pretty much on the border. One of my favorites in the collection is my premium spidermachine gp7, which just really makes wish for a premium fusion busta or bone shaker. A bit off the subject but that comment on what hot wheels fans like dislodged a thought I've been having out of my memory. Oh, and metal base 1/43 scale is honestly really cool, but I don't know if that makes it worth it when 10 dollar kinsmart are pretty darn accurate too, or for better quality than kinsmart, maisto at a larger scale for like 15 bucks
@skeletonmandiecastcollector
I’m on the same boat as you as a minority when it comes to Hotwheels since I collect more of the premium brands like GL,AW and so on.

I think $12-14.99 would be more ideal. Or at least feature opening hood/doors. It would be fun if they added working head and tail lights as they been experimenting lighting on some of the RLCs. I think lighting would drive people to have some interest. My reason is because why would people who have been collecting 1/64 jump to a bigger scale? What’s the appeal? What’s the incentive? Especially when each car is $25. Just getting 4 cars you’re already at $100. With that pricing you’re not getting really well detailed (beyond premium line detail) or functional cars. High scale means higher detail and added functions.

Left/Right side closeup on the Z06 showing bubbles and blemishes in the yellow bumper paint. For 25 a pop the quality has to be better, and those clamshells are going to be empty back on the pegs when people swipe them. Bad enough seeing 1 buck basics being ripped but this is going to scream take me if they ever show up at the stores in quantity.

I don't mind them, but I can understand how people think a stock/unmodified car doesn't quite fit the Hot Wheels character. I almost wonder if it would work better as a Matchbox branded product instead. Not only for the focus of accurate factory cars, but more appeal to international collectors? The $25 price is a bit of a struggle, especially something about the connected axles feels too toy like.

Maybe the quality control could be a little better, but they look fine. If they come out with a car I really like I'll probably pick it up. Possibly someday we'll get a version of team transport in this scale?

What speaks to me about it and justifies the price is the possibility theyre the best looking toy grade 1/43 that’s durable enough to play with. What I’d like to see in this scale is cars like the rx7 fc with pandem kit. But my complaint about 1/43 is few other things are sold in that scale besides cars. 1/64 is a size range unless otherwise specified which means the models work with a lot of 1/72 things. Some so called 1/64 cars are 1/56 or a lil bigger on paper. Whole lot of non car things exist in that scale too. What buildings exist in 1/43? Sure 1/48 is a thing but 1/43 looks too big next to it. Ideally I’d want everything in the same scale but approximating is the best we can do. Re that elite64 mustang and the others in that line, that’s exactly what I’d wanted boulevard to be. The level of quality even if nothing opened.

I love hot wheels and have lots of brand loyalty towards them but in my opinion these just aren’t it for me. I’m not a fan of 1/43 to begin with but the price of these is rather high, and I feel lots of the community feel like this as buying these costs $50 per set for 2 cars. Other brands have managed to conquer this scale at a lower price with the same level of detail. I like the idea but the execution isn’t all the good. I feel hot wheels are all about cool cars with cool livery’s and mods but these cars just look like any other brand, a car that looks just as it looks coming out the factory. I would love to see modified cars in this scale. I think that is what would sell as it is unique and not offered anywhere else. Also the packaging is nice and would love to see premiums with a similar package as it’s really nice to be able to put the car back after looking at it similar to the premium container sets (the reason I love them)

Honestly, the musings about the cars being boring may have some grounding. I know as collectors, we do tend to focus on realism at 1:64 because I believe it's a recognition of the engineering and artistry required to replicate a car at such a small scale - Let's not even talk 1:87 (HO scale)! I think there's actually a golden opportunity here for Hot Wheels to really showcase some of their unique and classic fantasy vehicles to inject something unique at this scale.

Or sublicense Ferrari from May Cheong Group. I know it's too expensive to do that for mainlines and it may also be too expensive for retail premiums at the ~$6 price point (considering they haven't yet gone the sublicensing route for Ferrari since losing the license at the end of 2014) but, at the ~$25 price point, Mattel sublicensing Ferrari from MCG should be a lot more feasible.

To add . Hot Wheels give us a Shelby pick up , a 55 Belair gasser with M/T slicks in the rear or something slammed in spectra-flame !!! Be Hot Wheel not a large version of a show room vehicle . Mattel has always been on the cutting edge giving us toys the ones we remember about our first experience of opening a blister card or searching a bin for a TH or STH ! Make us collectors feel the kid again . Give us something that we can’t see in a show room …. Thoughts ?

My previous collections are larger scale models with a lot of details and opening parts but i stopped collectim them because of the lack of space to display them. That's why I started chasing 1:64 premium hot wheels. Because they have a decent quality in a small car. This mattel move I think is ok if they drop the prices a little. But I think the main target of this new product are adult collectors who want to start with a new scale and I think this is not the move, first because hot wheels is known for 1:64 orange track cars and second the collectors know there are better and kind of cheaper 1:43 cars in the market. Probably a hot wheels collector will buy 1 or 2 but that's all.

I picked up the Lambo & Vette just b/c of the cars they are. Not sure if I'll get the Stang. They are overpriced & lack the detail & finish for the money level. You are correct that the wheels should be better. I can't see them catching on. I see them as peg warmers already. I would buy this scale if they came out with the original HW line up but made just like the originals with the removeable wheels (since priced for collectors). I think the Tooned cars in this scale at a lower price would sell for kids not collectors. It will be interesting to see what HW does.

These cars have everything going against them, for a 1/64 scale collector-high price, too big, no room for displaying them, but somehow I found myself buying them anyway. They are beautiful models and certainly worth the price, but I can’t see myself continuing with a collection of them. It’s just not sustainable for me. Like you, I might grab one or two if the model appeals to me for displaying outside of my collection, but that’s where I’ll draw the line.

I find these very interesting, I have Hotwheels Elite 1/43 Knight Rider KITT and KARR models from about 10 years ago, so should be interesting to compare these new ones to the older models. I have collected many scales, but mostly 1/43 and 1/64, so certainly these new 1/43's sound interesting to me, that Corvette for example. From the video probably biggest difference in details, compared to my older KITT and KARR models is the mirrors. New ones seem to have silver paint, while old models have realistic reflecting mirrors. Otherwise I think details are about the same, interior and exterior, altough not sure if new ones have decals for instrument cluster, KITT and KARR of course have that fancy dashboard modeled and detailed :) Somehow Kinsmart and Welly comes to mind from these new 1/43 Hotwheels models, but those are usually in 1/32 or 1/24 scale. Certainly interested about these 1/43 Hotwheels castings, most likely at least some of them should end up in my collection eventually, when they arrive here in Europe.

Those quality control gaffes are depressing, given the price. I actually like this lineup (though I have only gotten hold of #5 (the Skyline) and #6 (the Mercedes AMG GT3) and want to pick up select models from it (like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS) but I can acknowledge there are some issues that HW needs to address.
