July 25, 2024: The American Democracy and Health Security Initiative recently released urgent recommendations drawn from a major 18-month examination of how state and local leaders-governors and mayors; health experts and emergency response officials; community, nonprofit, and faith-based groups; educators; and business leaders-bridged divides across sectors and silos to enable a more effective response to COVID-19. These “Lamplighters” illuminated the way to meet the challenges of the pandemic, charting a path toward a better American response to future health emergencies. The Initiative’s website includes findings and recommendations from this groundbreaking effort.
This event convened pandemic “lamplighters” to discuss ways to meet the challenges of the next pandemic in a polarized world. It was hosted by Beth Cameron, Professor of Practice and Senior Adviser to the Pandemic Center. The panel includes:
