Lamy Aion Black and Silver Fountain Pen Review 

Excellent review! My favorite part recently of watching your videos is seeing what new stuff is on your shelves in the background.

I love writing with my Lamy 2000 and find this pen amazing!!! Grip section feels similar to a 2000. For me this seems like an affordable version of Lamy 2000. I tried 20 other pens at the shop after trying this one and still picked this up in the end. This will be my stainless steel EDC for sure

Oh wow coincidental I bought a (quiet old and used) LAMY fountain pen just the other day. It has yet to arrive by mail but I dont really know anything about LAMY or the pens they make. So its nice to see a review of these, great job.

I have a Namisu Ixion black aluminium pen which takes Bock nibs which are my favourites and interchange easily. A no clip edc pen. Nice to see Lamy tentatively innovating.

I like the new nib. I have used around 3 EF from the old safari. None of them is as smooth as the EF from the aion. But maybe just because of the sample size.

FYI Jasper Morrison worked with Lamy on the Aion, beautiful 'mature' design and future classic imo. Thank you Mister Brown, fantastic review.

I wasn't excited about this pen, until I tried one. Loved it! It's a wet writer and very comfortable! Some people are comparing it to the Loom... It's way more comfortable than the Loom, which I find terribly unbalanced.

Nice review, good pen, Lamy quality as usual. Regarding the section, I agree with your comment but I have noticed that the section gets a bit more "grippy" after longer use. Maybe exposure to skin chemistry does something. Things get better with use sometimes :-) Another thing that I disliked a bit personally is that the black, at least the one I received, comes with a steel (chromed) nib. Black, maybe even mate, would be a bit nicer. Should they become available, I will probably get one.

Is it made of raw aluminum or coated? I mean the silver one...thanks

The section on the silver aion stains easily and is quite tough to remove the ink stains..

Surely a waisted barrel will rotate just the same? Though I can see there is less orientation with regard to how high up the grip ones finders are. There are many thousands of pens with this design.

Thanks Stephen! The only bit I'd add is that the cap, while secure, jiggles around when the pen is capped. Some think I am referring to while posting-no.. I have a buddy who has the same experience. Others report the cap being secure. This drives me a bit mad! Lamy, take time to design a pen--especially such a simple design, to work! Enough of my little rant. In the US the Zion ships with a converter

Purchased my Aion at the Phila Pen Show from the Fountain Pen Hospital and the converter was included.

Hello sbre Brown, platinum 3776,Waterman Perspective Black GT Fountain Pen which one of these two pens has very smoothest nib,there will be no skipping,no feedback. If these pens have these issues then kindly suggest a JAPANESE PEN in same price range which is devoid of these issues.

Does the clip move left and right?

So the Studio and the CP 1 had a baby and now it is a hipster teenager that looks like a Faber Castell or Inoxcrom... So many questions! At that price I would consider the Sheaffer Intensity, kind of a similar concept but with a screw on cap, a quite smooth nib and a variety of colors to choose from. Oh, and also a metal section with a more conventional hour glass shape. I do like that Lamy finally launched a new pen and that it has a smooth, continuous, slightly curved surface from the section to the barrel. It kind of reminds me the Parker 51 or the old Sheaffer pens with inlaid nibs. I was disappointed by the black version not having a black nib and the redesign of the nib. Like when they brought back the Persona and ditched the old "conical" nib. I don't have much to add, perhaps in the future with more colors and finishes it will be a more interesting pen for me. Z26 and Z27 fit for Lamy's Premium Fps

What is the three dots under the clip doing there? I asked Jasper Morison (the designer), but he didn't answer.

Do you experience any slippage with the cap when posted? I post my pens and frequently find that my Aion's cap will just come loose if I don't jam it in when posting

It would've been good to see how a converter fits in the pen. I have a extra Z28 coverter (that new one that mix the old Z24 & Z26) that has the pegs that fit in the safari section. My question is, will the Z28 fit in the Aion section, or should I get a Z26?

Looks like more a business/conservative pen. Looks like a ink pen more than a fountain pen. My guess is not for a lot of writing but looks good in the pocket and works for occasional writing. Kind of fills a gap in the Lamy line of products if you already like their pens and use them.

Came here to see and hear your opinion about this Nib which Lamy says is a "curved contour, polished with a soft feel". You didn't seem to pick up on any of those claims for critique. Hmm...

That section wouldn't work for me. Not a fan of the FB loom either. The nib on the Faber Castell is great tho, glassy smooth. The pen itself was too heavy and slippery for me.

Jeez, at the 6:50 mark I believe your brain went into loop mode, lol. Kinda reminded me of Porky Pig saying "Bu-duh, bu-duh, bu-duh, that's all folks!", but I'm not insinuating you're Loony Tunes. A Lamy that has me intrigued is one Goulet Pen has coming this month called the Accent in the Brilliant Briarwood version. It seems a bit overpriced at $200 but does have a 14K gold nib, so maybe it's not that unreasonable.

2:43 Whatever you do, please don't do that. When you open a snap cap like that, you create a small vacuum where the cap once was that tends to draw ink out of the pen and cause a massive leak. Open snap caps gentally.

I ordered an EF size nibbed one today. I have big hands so it looks like it will be perfect for me. Finally thanks for your beautiful handwriting, because most of reviews has bad really bad handwritings and sorry for them all but its unacceptable if you would review any kind of pen. It is like a car review who cant drive...

Appelboom is certainly the way to go for people outside of Europe.

I am really, really underwhelmed by these. Lamy's designs are usually so interesting and thoughtful. This is really boring.

I wouldn't want to carry a pen around in my pocket named after a pagan deity. These pagan deities are linked to evil spirits. The pen follows you around, and the evil spirits likewise follow the pen and you around. The end result, not good.
