A+W hit me a lot harder than I ever thought it would. The light whispery vocals on the intro talking about her self image and then leading into her need for affection and physical love trying to cover that shame was really heartbreaking. The fact she feels trapped and doomed to repeat that cycle of behavior without a way out really broke me. The sheer vulnerability of the lyrics and emotions throughout the track really puts the idea of brokenness on full display in a way that makes her so human

@prettierjesus3119 Год назад
@@user-gu1un7pb7k Better by what definition? I think her work from 2012-2017 felt more varied, and like she was doing something different each album. With these new albums, while the writing may be stronger, the music itself often goes to the wayside, and feels less unique. Lots of the same instruments being used, and at a moderately consistent volume, too. There’s some exceptions, like Grandfather and The Trio, but a lot of her music since 2019 has seemed to be slower and more quiet. I will say, however, that this album is an improvement from her 2021 releases. I’m worried that I’ll still like Arcadia from Blue Banisters more than any track on this album, but the three singles were already quite promising. It’s a bit of a shame that a lot of the album’s songs begin with similar sounding piano notes, though.

It's nice seeing people struggle to understand the album, since her point it's to very much defy the concept of a well structured and rounded album. For me, she's clearly having a lot of fun adding a lot of mistakes and experiments (since the album opens with a mistake). Fingertips has no chorus, there are 2 interludes of people speaking for 4 minutes, she mixes 2 different songs twice for no reason, she simply doesn't care about a traditional analysis and criticism of what a good album is. And yet the album is beyond excelent.

I think that lot of us started listening to her in our teen years, in which her music was what we were looking for, even if now looking back, they seem immature. But we were immature. And now, most of us are women, thinking about family, if we want it, if we can have it. For me, even the religion - finding god but struggling with the downfalls of church. as a high school senior I never did like Lana even though I didn't dislike her as vehemently as a lot of my male friends. She had a distinct way of singing but I couldn't relate too much to what she was saying. As an adult and meeting a variety of people who have expressed feeling the same as to what she is talking about and first hand experiencing the feelings of loneliness and the inability to truly relate and be with someone rather than giving into the temptations that give us the short but fierce burn that we mistake as something more, I can say that Lana is like seeing an old friend really go through what you do but never really talking to them about it until one day you just have a whole ass day of just describing what your lives have been like and, even if it's for a short time, just being vulnerable and undeterred with each other in the conversations. No judgments, no critiques, no nothing but just two friends truly catching up. Lana got better at expressing herself and obviously has the chops to make it an experience that you can only really describe as ethereal and otherworldly. TL;DR I have ascended to non hater status.

Great review! But you bringing up the ‘Question for The Culture’ moment into this video was very unnecessary since, based on your review and points of view, you picked up what you read on social media and never really looked forward on what she really meant to say. The fact that she just mentioned her favorite artists and it backfired her by calling her a “racist” and dismissing the entire point of “why can’t I get the same recognition as a woman like me: fragile, sentimental and “weak” as people may perceive her unlike these artists who are known to show an image of “empowerment” through feeling comfortable with your sexuality, body, etc… Seemed like some sort of “cancel culture” arguments teenagers keep talking about to this day. What makes the whole “QFTC” thing funnier is that people, specially women and female artists are starting to realize what she meant. Thanks for your input as always though!

I think you really need to do reaction again to her past works because when you understand them, born to die is really a masterpiece of pop. Ultraviolence is so unique and in every songs, they are so many details in her voice and in the production. The same for honeymoon.

There's very few artists I'd agree on this for, but yes absolutely. I've been a huge fan since 2014 and there's quite a few lyrics and even full songs that have been fully recontextualized after this new album. I think critics were extremely harsh on Ultraviolence but to be fair there wasn't much context for it either until her last 3 albums.

Hey Anthony, you were kinda off on the meaning of Taco Truck x VB, it's really a much more complex song. This song is, in my opinion, her best closer ever, the meaning is just genius. This song is essentially a fuck you to the critics, she says in the taco truck part ‘imagine if we actually gave a fuck’ and that she’s aware of how she’s perceived by them and how they actually do hate her. She says they spin her stories into a homogenous mix and leave no space for nuance and then print it into the reviews but it won’t phase her. And then to end this ‘fuck you’ at the critics with a remixed crazy version of the song that actually got her respect among critics for her innovating herself and that also “happens” to be a song about just not caring at all. To quote Venice bitch, she’s saying she’s fresher out of fucks forever. Genius.
