I’ve seen this video a million times and it never really occurred to me she’s dead, since that isn’t what the song is about (on a superficial level at least), I love this interpretation and this channel 🥰
Your channel is literally the best... I binge watch every single video of yours.. it's like a stress buster 😉 .. everyone should appreciate your work 🙂.. amazing, fabulous.
I do respect your analysis but I disagree on some important points. The video is part of the picture, but also look at the lyrics. The male protagonist in the start is a type of the "bad boy", gang related, tattooed, smoking guy that woman protagonist is somehow attracted and interested in. However as you progress with the video you see that love and passion has developed ('But you fit me better than my favorite sweater'). His hand on her neck is not a menacing act but an act of woman which deeply trust and loves his his man (just like a cat allows someone to touch her vulnerable belly only if it trusts that person). They do have some sort of relationship with frequent arguments and disagreeing, but he does not beat her or mistreats her, it does not change the fact they are in love, 'they were dancing all night'. As the song progresses and their relationship, it looks like there was an misunderstanding; she says that 'Told you I wanted more, that's not what I had in mind'. Probably guy tried to do some sort of crime to get money for their future life, got caught, they (police?) locked him up, and is taken from her with words 'Then they took you away, stole you out of my life'. She is metaphorically dead, not literally dead. To her, she feels like dead and lonely when living without him. And it feels like drowning in the abyss (that's why water is so black). I think everyone in his life had this kind of experience with the love - it does hurt, but it makes you feel alive.
This is how to reinterpret a cultural classic… So many gems in your videos! I’m also really hoping for you to listen to Lana’s latest album with us, you the best!
