Lex was the final death knell on their ever getting together, but their relationship had failed long before that happened. Clark and Lana demonstrated over and over again why they didn't work as a couple. It's tragic, and it makes for a wonderfully angsty love story, but Clark and Lana were never meant to be.

Clark & Lana would have been together if Lex had just found it in the goodness of his heart to leave them alone. Just because Clark ended up with Lois doesn't mean that he forgot about Lana completely. Lana is his first love. No matter what. Nothing in the world can never break that apart.

@@marlanaedwards5296 Lana was his first love, yes. There's no question that Clark and Lana truly loved each other, and that them being together helped make Clark who he is... That being said, love by itself isn't enough to make a relationship work long-term, and Lex was just one of MANY things that kept breaking them apart. Clark's lack of trust in Lana was another, and so was Lana's consuming need to prove herself. They each had a tendency to put the other on a pedestal, and it ALWAYS prevented them from seeing who the other person truly was and acknowledging each other's flaws. They had major ideological differences as well, with Lana being much more ruthless (sort of an ends-justifies-the-means sort of person) vs. Clark's refusal to compromise on what it means to be a good person. In the end, I just disagree that Clark and Lana would have had a happily-ever-after without Lex's interference. Even if that situation had gone their way, I guarantee something else would have driven them apart. We've got 7 whole seasons worth of evidence to prove it...

It brought me to tears to. Because Clark did not look her in the eye, and say you are right you haven’t been a good friend. Never trusting me, thinking, I’m hiding a secret, and running to Chloe talking about me like I’m a dog. You see, Clark should’ve confronted her. But Clark was a coward. He was afraid to stand up and be a man because he thought he would lose Lana. But what he did not understand was that women like Lana need a strong man to direct her, tell her want to do, bring about a submissive spirit, and let her know that when he jiggles his glass of tea, she needs to be standing there ready to pour tea in his glass. Everybody’s thinking this don’t pretend you’re not. I’m just saying a little heat vision would’ve went along way. If you can smell when I’m cooking.

I mean, can you blame her? Clark's excuses were so lame she felt rightfully pissed, he was constantly lying to her face and nobody likes that 😅 We as an audience understand Clark's motivations but Lana was only getting mixed signals from the Man of Steel. One day he was all over her and on the same day Red K would made him into a jerk or a meteor infected student would interrupt their date. Not his fault but not her fault either for being upset. That being said, Clark's judgement of her past with Lex or Bizarro on season 7 were quite cruel, she was groomed by Lex and tricked by Bizarro. Clark unfortunately idolized Lana since they were young and any kind of inkling to behavior that was less than perfect would rub him the wrong way

@Random Montage All very very good points. However it still all starts because Lana couldn't let the secrets go. My whole point of the comment was that in this clip she understands he has secrets but doesn't want them to come between them. Instead of leaving it at that, she allows her curiosity to come between her and Clark. She herself has done horrible things caused by stuff like spells and things. She could have just excepted that Clark was under the influence of outside forces like she was. But instead, she partners with Lex and confides in him because she feels betrayed by Clark. Hey method of getting back at him is too attach herself to his former best friend

@Random Montage My other point was the difference between her and Lois. Lois trusted Clark, she may not have always understood why he did certain things, but she trusts that it's for a good reason. The only time she questions him and demands an answer to his secrets is when she things he's investigating the Blur.

​@@ryanabate1981 i gotta say that I don't believe Lana went with Lex just to make Clark jealous. By the time he broke up with her, you gotta understand her pain. Almost everyone in her life had either died, was a psychopath or was gone: her parents, Aunt Nell, Whitney, Jason, Adam, Henry Small. Clark's constant lies frustrated her and that he then comes to tell her that he doesn't love her must have been painful since that's another person she cared about that left her. She only had Chloe and Lex basically, and Chloe was probably busy at the daily planet or at Jonathan's celebration party, so Lex was the only person she could go to. Lex felt like someone who was truly honest with her at first, but she would later realize how much of a monster he was. I believe her need to know Clark's secret is to understand what could haunt him so much to make him lie to the person he supposedly loved, cause for me Lana always suspected that Clark was meteor-infected, so finding out his secret would finally let her into his life and sympathize with him. During "Freak", she mentions she would accept him no matter if he was meteor-infected. She just wanted to be sure to understand the dishonesty he showed towards her, because if you ask me, she suspected that him telling that he didn't lover her was a product of him possibly being a meteor freak. She knew Clark would probably not do it himself, so she wanted to do it for him to give him a relief. For her, that would all explain the times he behaved like a jerk towards her and other weird situations.

@John Entwistle Okay I do understand your point of view. I do think Lana never truly believed Clark didn't love her. She knew he was lying but since he wouldn't take it back, she chose to move on, which she was absolutely right to. However I greatly disagree with why she fell for Lex. It was another way to stay close to Clark is part of the reason. She knew Lex was obsessed with him so this fed her own obsession, which is fine, Clark was just as obsessed with Lana. But I think she thought getting intimate with Lex would cause Clark to stop acting like it didn't matter. Every time her and Lex hit another milestone in their relationship, she made sure Clark knew about it, she didn't do that with Jason, only Lex. Clark openly said Lana was with Lex because it is the one person that would hurt Clark the most, not only did Lana not deny it, she looked down and ashamed. These are subtle hints from the writers that Red K Clark was correct. Lana herself said the first person she wants to tell slit Lex is Clark. Lana wanted to hurt him, she did. She also wanted Jim to react which would prove he still cared. As for the powers thing, I do think she always suspected he was infected, but she shot herself in the foot on comments she made early on. She said if someone she knew had actually been an Alien, she'd be freaked out. Lois on the other hand, didn't bat an eye. Granted Lana did prove that it didn't matter to her when she did actually find out, but in her earlier days, she accidently kept Clark from letting her in more.
