Bora Siman np, Pantani was the first to be hit (actually in the evening of the same day he got caught his Hematocrit was below 50%). I’d love to see Pantani at his max racing against Lance at his max without doping... doping ruined both riders career
Dope did more to get people into the sport, sell more bikes and get more teams sponsored during that period. Everyone on my block had a Trek and wore yellow wristbands.
Ramond Ferreal exactly! People assume he only won because of the performance enhancing drugs... do me a favor; go dope what he did and win the race. You cannot take away from the fact he was better than everyone else.
just to everyone saying lance only good because of the EPO, the guy left in the dust later admitted to being on the same stuff lance Armstrong was on. As well as the guy who finished in first.
Not just because of epo. But also Blood transfusions(blood doping), Testosterone, Human growth hormone, Corticosteroids and Saline and plasma infusions...
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. EPO was a safer alternative to blood transfusions .. completely pointless to do both at the same time. Do some research instead of just reading internet comments.
This is the substances he used trough out his career. Im just a lawstudent who was assigned to read and analyse the USADA doping report. I have done my research. With some respect, I have to call you a little naive if you think he only used EPO.(not stating that you have said that) I agree that he´s not only good because of the chemical substances he used trough out his career, but that there obviously extreme amount of training. But it still makes him a rat, a psychopath and a cheater. I think I leave at that.
Don't forget that the day before this time trial, the team car in front of Ullrich suddenly stopped and Ullrich flew through and cracked the back window. See the bandage on his neck at 8:21.
He did earn it. By doping he was only leveling the playing field. No one can make so much as the top 10 without doping. Anyone claiming otherwise is an ignoramus.
MrFreeGman you’re a fucking idiot. Prove a negative? LeMond never doped; thousands of pros have never doped. USADA and CADF test regularly. The sport is much cleaner than during the Armstrong era.
@@beck4218 Maybe listen to what the professionals from that era are all saying instead of being dumb enough to believe that passing a test means anything? Armstrong passed dozens if not hundreds of tests over the span of his career. They just went after him the hardest because he was in the spotlight.
@Thomas Clayton Wyatt, MD Child Predator they still use helicopters equipped with WEScams. if you listen to modern gcn coverage it's quiet but you can still hear it
They were all on the same level as they all were doping, yet Lance was another level of a rider! Pure graft he put in start to finish… no one can take that away from him. Legend
Not really. Every athlete responds differently to doping. 1 athlete will gain more than another. For me Ullrich was the bigger talent. Less work ethic though. Still Ullrich would have won in a field without doping, lance might not have given his vo2 max. I partially believe Greg Lemond when he says that when he learned about Lance vo2 max , that lance could not win a tdf legit. Partially cause i think Lance might have won 1 or 2 legit ( if the rest of the field was also clean) as lance and his team basically invented hyperfocus for 1 particular event. No one trained as specific for 1 goal at the time.
I could be wrong but Lance probably wanted to keep the regular suit with the dimples for aerodynamic reasons compared to the yellow suit which might be more generic.
I say indurain was doper. 7 grand tours , Olympic medals in the tt and road race as well as in the world championships. And he Also he broke the world hour record.
What a stupid comment. "Our" and "your" have no place in any comments of discussion on this subject. Brits now defend Froome and Wiggans with the same naive national pride that Americans showed for Armstrong (myself included, shook hands and handed over check for Armstrong Foundation after first tdf win). The Slovenians will have to come to grips with their own overzealousness soon.
Dave Zabriskie rides for CSC. We were riding a century in Utah county this summer when this guy in a CSC jersey blew past us. I joked with a friend that it was Dave Zabriskie so he caught up with him and it was Zabriskie! So I can officially say that I've been blown away by Dave Zabriskie.
Hi, Of course, Big ''Fat'' Jan was out of shape as usual. The only time he looked completely fit and able to compete against ''Robocop'' for the final victory at the Tour was that year of 2003.This campaign was the tightest and most disputed in recent years since the memorable 89 edition finish at the Champs-Élysées .Clearly if seriously ''prepared'', he was virtually invincible. Simply the most gifted Cyclist of his generation. Take a look at the 47 km Gaillac- Cap decouverte 2003 time trial stage 12. A monumental masterpiece by the German rider. A perfect recital of absolute power at his finest! Just unstoppable. Armstrong lost that day by more than one minute and a half... A massive gap! Watch him pump those pedals on insane huge gears at high cadence was a holy moment of sport! He rode that day like a man possessed. Thanks EPO for those great memories.
09thespecialone You call muscle FAT? The guy was just built like a bodybuilder. I felt bad for him because Lance was always there to torment him at the very end, of each race, lol.
Years later we learned that Jan never took the training as serious as Armstrong or even other europeans (who generally were slackers compared to Armstrong). No real diet plan, training based on superficial observations rather than science, and he wasn't motivated because he was paid enough money just being where he was, didn't really care to do what was needed to achieve the most. He got by in life riding and was amazingly good in natural form but got outmaneuvered by Armstrong who was physiologically inferior to Jan but because Armstrong was a madman who embraced everything he simply won.
TheRebuilt1 He means Lance has 0 and he too has 0 ... so even when he is awake he is correct, I really liked Armstrong and every bit of revelation came as a pang!!!
Rahul Kotabage Yeah I get it He could say Lance attempted to win 13, won 7 was stripped of 7. Were trailgumby has attempted 0, done nothing and won nothing. Rodger that.
I know, it's always all too easy to just mock the guy that was the best at what he did. Even as I wrote that I can see someone write, "yeah, the best at doping." This is something Lance is gonna have to live with and he knows it but hey, so be it. But he put in the work that it takes. He's not some lazy ass, fuck no. You gotta be obsessed with your bike to be a winner, the drugs are there just to boost so you won't fall behind the other boosters, unfortunately.
@@markcavandish1295 Compared to a modern "praying mantis" position such as Ganna or Evenpoel, Lances position is quite slow. However for the time period he had one of the best positions on the bike and did the most research into aero gains. You can see that he is wearing shoe covers which were not as popular back then but it is now known that they make a bigger difference than the wheelset
I'm so glad I don't have to hear about Ullrich's big gear anymore. Whenever the cameraman showed his face, the commentators felt like they had to remind us.
The photo of Lance in his home with all his yellow jerseys on display in the background the day after they stripped him of his victories was priceless.
@@mortonbeard2240 yeah I'd like to hear the riders answer that! I know a couple years ago a fan shoved Chris Froom and time to time they touch riders that really very wrong! If I was a pro cyclist I'd want like a 10ft distance from fans
All top cyclists doped but not everyone was on the same program or took the exact same things, so the narrative that there was a "level playing field" is bullcrap. One of the biggest reasons Armstrong dominated Ullrich was that he was much more ruthless and driven, not because he was more talented. Ullrich was a friendly chap whereas Armstrong would walk over a teammates corpse to win. Winning a cycling race probably even meant more to him than his own family did.
he worked harder year round and was driven to suceed more than Ulrich which was his downfall some may say. Every champion is driven and wants to do as much as possible to win so dont think Armstrong invented doping or dennying using PED's. Hes and easy target like Mark McGuire and Bary Bonds in Baseball but he is a champion unlike 98% of the trolls that like to say he simply cheated as if he took a taxi to France 7 years stratight. Get over yourselfs Cat5 loosers
@@Klont123 Dumoulin does not. He is 1.85 cm and only weighs 69 kg his bmi has got to be so low. MvdP does though but he weighs at least 6-7 kg more. Van aert looks huge too, but these guys are just bigger riders. Most GC riders aren't that big. Fun fact the heaviest rider to ever win the tour de france was actually overweight by modern BMI standards, Franz Faber at 88 kg lol
Ulrich just grinding away. That cadence looks painful. I remember my dad telling me how I had to spin to win (I was a teenager in this era, doing triathlons). He swore it was Armstrong's cadence that was winning him the tours...
Higher cadence activates the core, and lessens any asymmetrical or lazy inefficient tendencies. A nervous system trained for high cadence can easily grind a lower cadence but not the other way around.
You're not gonna go fast because your cadence is high... your cadence is gonna be high because you're going fast. Ulrichs cadence was lower than Lance's because he was going a lot slower but if you look at ulrich in 1997 or 2003 you can see his cadence is alot higher than here
@@eDDeboo yeah but that's only relevant to the person you trying to ride against. I'm talking about the individual himself will have higher cadance than himself the faster he goes
I will never forget this ITT. My friend came over just to watch it together. We were teenagers and promising cyclists that could become Pro one day. Before Lance admitted that he doped I said "no matter if he does or not he is going to be my cycling God". He still is
not sure I would say half..partial maybe and how can we really know who else was fiddling with the same cheats? Lance seems to have fallen due to his teamates and he was the largest target but I dont believe for one second he was alone in doing it. @@frits8986
Hello from Paris, you're right, but not all the French hates Lance, Ill be cheering him today at the Champs Elysees, as I did for his 7 wins, hes a great fighter.
Lance was the best blood doper in the tour. He was totally driven to win. Everyone was doping. He had to survive, he did and was a total prick about it. He lied repeatedly, used his money to scare people from fear of lawsuits, basically buying their silence.
ecosby100 this is just gibberish and shows you know nothing He tested positive twice but got away with it cos of his power. He had superior access to the best drugs and was willing to tailor it solely with the focus of the tdf whereas other raiders were not so focussed so their drug regimen was less optimised for this one race .. what else did lance win? In any event drugs don’t affect people equally. Also some of the rest were indirect tests on eg blood markers like hermatocrits. The test just involved a fixed cap that you couldn’t go above .. less naturally gifted riders (including la who was not super elit when it came to vo2) could dope more than more naturally gifted ones before reaching the fixed cap .. In short you don’t know shit
6:26 "Now, the rules are you can't follow in the slipstream..." 6:02 - 6:20 Lance is in Ullrich's slipstream." That is 18 seconds of less wind resistance Lance had.
He won the all-drug tour fair and square. Not to appear inconsistent with their rules of compliance, the International Cyling federation reawarded Lance's first place finishes to 16th, 17th, 21st, 25th, 30th, 32nd, and the 35th place finishers.
It wasn't "all-drug". Just the "top" losers being petty fucks and using doping to get way above the actual level of the cycling field. Lance didn't win shit fair and square. After everything is said and done, Lance didn't actually win fucking anything. He's just a small part of a group of losers who were never top-tier cyclists, so they decided to cheat. Fuck Lance and every other fuck who did it.
