It must’ve been really strange being the ultimate “symbol of attraction” for the female gaze as a member of the boy band, and being gay at the same time. I know idols in Korea are still going through what lance went through. Must be hard.
@@TheBitTV Yeah, JT was literal jailbait when *NSYNC debuted in 1997, when he was 16 years old: JT💘 caught me at *NSYNC's _No Strings Attached_ concert on 6/9/2000, when he was 19, with his brilliant beatboxing cadenza before *NSYNC's most prophetic song for him, "It's Gonna Be (JT💘)" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aslANfzMnxQ.html
When I was in school insecure people called guys gay if they did anything nice or endearing or sensitive. I always thought it was funny because it was like they thought you'd call someone gay to 'eliminate a threat', like ah if we emasculate the guy, he'll be seen as less of a guy, and the girls won't want them. Clearly, not the case with this band.
I actually don't think them telling him not to talk about his personal life was necessarily a sly comment. They literally said that to all of them. They would be more popular with their audience if the girls thought they were single and available. Probably noone thought he was gay
You’re right, but as a closeted, young, impressionable kid who was hyper-aware of the fact that he was hiding a secret he probably internalised what they said differently. He also said that he wasn’t singled out when being called gay because the whole band was called gay just for being in a boy band.
I think this too. I don’t think I would have had the biggest crush on him and my walls filled with his posters when I was 12 if I knew about his dating life. They sold more being single in the public eye.
@@sarahsmatter1160they literally said that to all the members of all the boy bands in all of the land. Lol. Plus solo artists like Britney and Christina. This is just a known fact. The Backstreet Boys all had to hide the fact that they all were pretty much in serious relationships. It was about money. I am sure they didn't want anyone to come out as gay at the time too but still he that wasn't some backhanded comment to just him implying he was gay
Would have been funny back then if they'd been like, "You're gay!" and he'd been like, "I AM?! Oh my god, that explains why I like f*cking men! THANK YOU!!"
I'm a 61 yr old female married to a 66 yr old man & we have 2 adult sons (ages 33 & 20. I have a gay female cousin on my mom's side & my husband has 1 gay brother. I agree too. Lance was always the cutest to me ever since I was a kid, and I never understood the fascination with Justin 😆 Lance looks better and he has really beautiful eyes 💜
From what I remember, all boybands were called “gay” back in the day when I was a preteen. Sure they were popular among lots of fans, but there’s always ignorant haters.
Realistically, and not saying Lance is lying or condoning what happened to him--wouldn't all the members of *NSYNC have had anti-gay slurs hurled at them? Being glittery boyband members who did a lot of fanservice back in the day? It's happened to every commercial boyband since NKOTB and Take That.
I never said you were gay but I wasn't a N*Sync member. I did reprimand people for writing themselves love letters and saying they were from you though. Some of their names as far as I know were Kayla Ann Adkins, Dorothy Weyant and Ralanda Tara Cook.
Back when I was a kid, the term “gay” was used to offend and insult people. Back then, that behavior was considered normal. But today, it’s frowned upon to use that word in an offensive manner as LGBTQ has become more acceptable.
True in your heart n true in your persona. It must feel very positive to have your heart n your persona match. Thank you for kindly explaining n still being respectful of where you came from but then explaining how role models can give a new point of view to other children Through adulthood-
Lance Bass and Darren Hayes of Savage Garden are my very favorites then and now. I really don't have idea they had that in common. But the time I knew about it. Not bothers me. I loved them both the same. Same extremely talented beautiful people. 😍
Had no idea he was gay, just thought he was cute, loved the music. Kids in school would call anyone “gay” if they were different in any way. People are just savage. Who cares if someone is gay or bi or straight?
@@abbyk7270 Bloggers were hounding him and hating on him for being gay, but not being out or something. That's around when Perez's website was a really popular "news source". It got so bad that magazines started hounding him saying they knew he was gay and they would post the story forcing him to come out with or without him. So he had a day to decide what to do and therefore his piece in People magazine came out.
@@abbyk7270 Sorry, just read this. Yes, Perez did force Lance to come out after he was spotted in a gay bar and showed no remorse, claiming he was helping him.
He just seems desperate for fame and would say and do anything for it i think...jc was always my fave member tho he seems a bit suspicious too. Joey seemed fun and nice
May as well name "Violet Betty" after JC... 😁😆🤣😂 At least her initials... Josephina Christina or something. That could allude to Joey, Chris, AND JC in his band, haha! 😉 Just a joke!
NSYNC FOREVER 😍
Speaking as a god-fearing woman I send blessings to you sweetheart peace be with you and your family hold your head up high God said he who is free from sin let them be the first to cast the stone❤😊 be happy live your life to to the fullest 🙏
Twisting scripture there. Yes, but he is still living in his sin. Jesus Christ said to the adulteress woman "Go and sin no more." Yet Lance is still living in his sin. There is no forgiveness without repentance.
It's going to be okay. Kids these days do that because they want themselves to feel better. Just know that you are great everyday and don't ever forget that.🙂
Back then, being called ‘gay’ was not a compliment. When I used it, it meant ‘stupid’, ‘weird’, ‘bad’. It was wrong, but I was trying to fit in with the crowd. You perpetuate LGBTQ as ‘the other’ like other minorities. We then grow up and realize it was wrong.
Doh the problem was not that he was called gay for being gay, as people didn’t know it then, it was just because he was in a boyband which is something enjoyed by mostly girls. Therefore, gay was not used as a connotation of his sexuality but as a slur to diminish these men for catering to young female audiences. Anything that gets a huge following among women, especially young women, gets discredited and/or perceived as of inferior quality.
Love you brother. Homosexuality is a perversion. However, it is often caused by perversions thrust on children at young ages, broken home situations, lack of positive role models or feeling a lack of love. People are often bullied or pushed into subcultures. I believe we’ll be in Heaven together. No judgement from me but to any other young people watching this please don’t believe the deception. You are loved, you are beautiful. Cling to Christ; He loves all His children. Keep striving for the ideal when it comes to sexuality/ marriage… heterosexual monogamy.
