WHAT A BEAUTIFUL,RESPECTFUL CRICKET OF THAT ERA WITH ABUNDANT SPORTSMAN SPIRIT,HATSOFF TO THEM .

That’s all well and good, but just within 4 months from this test match (on April 21-25 1976) the infamous 4th test of West Indies against India test series took place in Kingston Jamaica. I’d urge you to find out for yourself how sportsmanlike that game really was. The Indian batsmen were peppered with short stuff into their bodies, Bedi declaring the first innings to save himself and the bowlers, Brijesh Patel hit in the face, Gaekwad hit behind the ear landing in hospital with the crowd chanting “Kill him”!, 5 batsmen declared absent hurt in the second innings. Gavaskar and the senior players were naturally incensed. Must have been like a zoo.

@@venkatsunderam7427- and Gundappa Viswanath had a broken finger as well. Bedi couldn’t risk himself or Chandra getting hit on the fingers. Holding bowled quite a few beamers in that match - two back-to-back at Syed Kirmani. It restored WI’s pride - and then they toured England - where we got rolled.

@@venkatsunderam7427Right from Bradmans era Test Cricket was played like that only.Only skilled player could overcome this onslaught.Nowadays players use body shield ,as if they go on WAR.Tomorrow another technique will come.Thats GENTELMEN?? GAME.WHAT SAY?!?

@@sureshnerlekar4713 well Bodyline happened in Bradman's era and it was panned all over and rightly so.. A google search gave me the following line "The spirit of cricket involves playing hard and fair, respecting teammates and opponents, and having self-discipline. These principles apply not only to cricket but also to life and other games." Another gave me this "Respect is central to the Spirit of Cricket." We can be fairly sure that some of the tenets listed here were violated that day. I think the main grouse is the disproportionality or the excessive use of force than is necessary that stands out. One can understand if one or even two batsmen were injured. But the casualties the Indian team suffered showed that excessive force was used, more than was necessary. I also read elsewhere that Lloyd had decided to do this as a preparatory trial for the west indies tour of Australia that was coming up ahead. The Indians were therefore used as Guinea pigs in a sense, as preparation for that tour. A lot of things went wrong here that wouldn't sit well with a true sportsman and cricket lover. In the era of reality TV and "hunger games"/"game of thrones", gladiator style sporting events and sadak chaap politics, this sort of sentiment might not resonate with an audience that is forever more "baying for blood", but you only have to ask those 11 men that we sent there from our shores to play a game of "cricket" to truly know the answer.

Seems a West Indian trait of old: relaxed, flowing action, almost effortless, but lethal. It is remarkable that Gibbs, the Windies' greatest spinner, shared this trait with the likes of Holding, Walsh, even Ambrose on most occassions.

They still do usually at least applaud a century & you do sometimes see the fielders congratulating a batter at the end of his innings if he’s made a hundred . International cricket was certainly pretty boorish a few years ago but actually I think the spirit has improved in more recent times
@varunagg2023
@varunagg2023 8 месяцев назад
This is a blatantly ignorant comment. Today players know each other better than ever and cricket is played in exceptional spirit compared to any other sport. Especially inspired by the Black Caps and McCullum example plus the overall cultural shift in Australian cricket under Pat Cummins. Bangladesh is one exception where petulance gets the best of them.

The reasons are many and it stem from the fact of unruly behavior of players due to huge sum of money being paid,umpires are challenged and DRS is an insult to the quality of cricket which was believed to be a gentlemen game .T20 is a core spoiler .In next ten years this would named Comicter because the boundaries have shrunk with field restrictions they hapless bowlers are reduced to comedians .Where are we heading

Today BCCI is run not on sportsmanship... It's a business and the most influential political body in the world... So they just design Everthing with pomp.. Show.. And spoil the cricketers with ludicrous contracts... How can u call the Board Gentleman just because u see them dressed smart... Just spoiling society and spewing nationalistic frenzy... See how people enjoyed and viewed the game from the Stands...as late as upto 1990...it All changed with globalisation... Money is the root of all evil.. There is no sense of being content.. But greed begs for more greed..

There are TWO types of HUmans. One are actual humans of human intellectectand they excel in Doctrine Subjects of Science ad Technology and other are "Darwin human". So in that the natural quality of actual human is "always to be PENETENT" (Gheiretmend) but against this Darwin Human always live "Impenitent" and to steal everyone because of their Darwin human disposition. Contrary to the fact how much we Teach and TRained Darwin Human they never give up their habit of stealing and to occupy other Territories. Doctrine JUGGUT------------ Why I appreciate and praise your “Non-merit incompetence” world appreciate and praise but you can "Take the bulet for your British Royal family inheritance sucide which I build in London". I am realy realy jealous on the "Non-merit incompetency" of King Charles and on his Reoyal Mother and British Royal family because they had build "Three Thousand" huge and middle Forts and Palaces in UK to break the world record of Germany, because of that every year Thirty million peoples comes to UK to see those Fort and Palaces and that all the Tourist money goes to Royal family of UK. "Nicht wahr" and British Royal family has their inherited intelligence because of "Aladeen Lamp" which enlighten their brain and mind. Not only British Royal family but also whole British nation needs apreciated aplous on their "Inherited non-merit incompetence". "Nicht wahr".--------------------------- So because of that I always keep myself far far away from British nation and British Royal family and from their inherited "Non-merit incompetence" which is an inherited disease of their Jeans. The followers of "UK" and British nation and British Royal family only can be world idiots. Those appreciate them for their Non-merit incompetence. The actual intellectual question mark is? That if this is the “Quality” of British Royal family THEN what will be the “Comprehensive intellectual Quality” of British nation and those foreigners those lives in UK OR those had got their education from UK? @@niksur7113
