I was 19 yrs old at the time. Even though I loved my dad we never really did anything together besides fishing and the odd knock around with tennis rackets. I was also never in a position to do anything for him. Until my job gave me complimentary tickets to this test match for 2 people in a box in the top tier at Newlands. We were there that day...ate everything the box delivered. Drank as much beer as we wanted to. And sat and watched in awe as McMillan and Klusener plundered centuries. My relationship with my dad was the strongest it ever was after that day, because he saw me as a man for the first time...not a boy. He passed away in 2011, but since 1996 that memory we shared was unshakable. Thanks Klusener.
He was not only a powerhitter he was infact a match changer & its really hard to imagine a player like in 90s when cricket was slow not like modern days when a team scores 400runs often
Those were the days all my childhood memories missing so much those days.... Today's boring cricket so much annoying irritating and have no class.... One of the best all-rounder....
Those were the heartbreaking years when the de facto was Indian bowlers getting trashed abroad and the hope was to see a Tendulkar century and eventually loosing by a large margin
Thank you for this. Need more Klusener in life. You have the best ones. Klusener & Brian McMillan stuff is just great, also of you can find some more Chris Harris or Shaun Pollock batting it would be pure gold.
Dodda ganesh was picked in the team due to his performance in domestic matches but on his 1st tour of s africa looked out of sorts........he almost forgot how to bowl
In 90's his higher bat lift is an advantage but during 2000's the same bat lift became a disadvantage ,, express bowlers like brett lee shoib aktar bowed him at the midstump line with quick pace ...
Klusener was a legend. My favourite SA all rounder and player. His trademark batting style was that bat was already up and ready like a baseball player
@@iamjayprakash because of his fluency in the Zulu language. Since his retirement he has occasionally commentated on cricket in both Zulu and Xhosa, as the two languages are mutually intelligible.
Ruthless and devastating batsmen he was Lance Klusener Lance Klusener was a baseball player before entering cricket. That stance of his before hitting the ball was famous during my childhood days. I used to imitate that stance of his.
@@yashpalyashpal7268 Chutiya tera baap Lance klusener ek base ball player bhi the .local mein khelte the Gaali tere se bhi acha main de sakta hoon Yashpal Chutiya !!!!!
At that time South Africa has many all rounders like Brian McMillan, lance klusener, jack kallis, Nicky bike, pat symcox, Shaun pollock, hansie cronje all can bat and bowl what a South African Team that was........
Not the one against Zimbabwe their neighbours because of Neil Johnson's heroic all rounding performance( that match highlight is present on You Tube) that was an upset for SA in a group stage before the chocking and stupidity in the semi finals against Australia everybody blames poor Donald for that incident but actually klusener was on strike and had more balls to score the last run there was no need to run a single only needed to struck for four or six they gave free ticket to Aussies who later on beat Pakistan and clinch the world cup of 1999 that started their hat trick of world cup in 2003 , 2007 until India won the world cup in 2011 no doubt klusener was a great all rounder but l guess not greater than jacque kallis for South Africa .
He was very talented player and a strong striker of the ball but unfortunately after the success of 1999 world cup he some how lost confidence perhaps due to high expectations and his performance was never the same again which prematurely ended his career.
He was Gilchrist of South Africa ,but not that focussed. He retired after 2003 world cup. He played much better during hansie cronje's tenure as captain.
In 90s and early 2000s if u wanted run a ball to chase down you would go for Micheal bevan . If you wanted 12 runs per over to chase down there was only one man you would wish to finish the job . The first official finisher lance klusner !
anil kumble was almost bowling like a medium pacer .He wasnt turning bowl even for 170 degree bas ghar me hi sher the 90 s me bahar hamesha har ke ate the qo bhi bade margin se
Because he drives the full ones and square drives the back of length ones. With fellows like Zulu (or say Gilly/Sehwag), bowlers would be forced to explore all options.
