You will need to get a dinghy chain and lock. Most every other sailing channel had to learn the same way you did. You might even consider raising your dinghy up at night out of the water and get a lock for your outboard.😊
@HarborsUnknown
@HarborsUnknown Год назад
We do have one but unfortunately it's now broken. We raise the dinghy pretty much every time we come back to the boat and definitely every night. We've heard way too many stories about dinghy theft around the world. Thanks for watching!

Wow. Probably don't want to hear it, but we've had good support from B&G. We had a problem with a new Zeus 3, and they overnighted a replacement. Then same problem with replacement, that turned out WE had a wiring issue. Our 4G radar crapped out after 3 years, and they offered a Halo 20+ for significant discount vs new. (Part of their five year replacement program.) Wind instruments OTOH, have not been long run time. I now have TWO spares, because once we had to buy a replacement while waiting for their corporate resupply. But I've never had a wait that long, although all of my experience was pre-Covid. Oh, and PRIMO video. Really enjoy the shoreside stuff. As I suspect you do, after a long crossing.
@HarborsUnknown
@HarborsUnknown Год назад
Absolutely!! We had a fantastic experience with B&G tech support pre-COVID, you should try to call now 😂! Hopefully this is just a temporary condition and not the sign of a company in trouble😬 Thanks for watching 😃😃

After 33 days solo sailing to Oahu I actually had to crawl form the fuel dock to tables. I got there at 3 am and good thing the shower stalls were small or I would have fallen down, It's called Land sickness!

Is Fabio allowed to stay longer as a EU citizen? We gonna have a similar situation. I am EU citizen and my husband US citizen. Curious how that worked out for y'all! I always find it funny how sea legs feel after spending time on the water. I haven't done a month yet so this must be even worse I imagine.
@HarborsUnknown
@HarborsUnknown Год назад
Yes, Fabio as an Italian EU citizen can stay for I believe 3 years. I would have to double check on the exact length. So I was able to apply for a year long EU spouse visa without having to go to a French embassy prior to arriving. All the paperwork was submitted once we arrived. We had an agent because I didn't want to make any mistakes and I would do the same thing again. It may depend which country in Europe you're from. Friends of ours had a different experience as the EU citizen had a French passport. For some reason (not sure why) that made it more difficult. Fabio felt quite dizzy and a bit landsick for a few hours. I think it wasn't so bad because we're on a catamaran. Best of luck with all your plans!

I glad that you are able to WARN sailors about the absolutely slack and dreadful after sales service B&G give their customers through your channel!!! They deserve a boycott like that happening in the US with Bud Light! Seawind too should perhaps review their alliance with B&G given the trouble you have had with them - or perhaps it's the owners choice that is offered when purchasing yacht? I don't know, but given your experience I'd not be siding with B&G for my yachting choices! I feel for Yoda. it must be so challenging to see you motoring away when land is SO close. Did she give you the cold shoulder upon your return? Thank you Fabio for teaching me something this trip. What do parasites look like with the back light? Are they a think stripe or a re they dots that look darker than the meat around them? How would you describe it? Does cooking to normal meal temperatures kill them (70ºC)? How long did you find the 'sealers' effect last, had it dissipated by the end of your walk? Why the need for a 12month visa? Great video, I hope Ray had a good flight home. I didn't see the airport runway on your zoom in at the beginning of the video. The place looks so small. When will you leave Nuku Hiva? Apologies for all the questions. 🖖

😂 it can certainly be very frustrating to be on hold for hours with various equipment suppliers, B&G seems to take the prize! Unfortunately there is a huge cost to switch to a different brand once you have a whole network of instruments and obviously they know it. Most manufacturers don’t offer an option on instruments and their technicians are trained to rig one brand. B&G is specifically geared for sailing and has a number of fantastic features to optimize sailing tacks but technical support is unfortunately horrendous. Furthermore they recently had a systemwide computer hack and their network was down for weeks. I check for parasites by shining a light through the fish and you may be able to see a squiggly worm or a spiral of worm. They are not small and you can easily spot them. I have only seen it in cod in the north east but I check all large fish, swordfish is notorious for parasites. You just pluck them out, they are harmless but definitely not appealing! Yoda was a little upset about not making it to land but she has no ability to keep a grudge😊 Sea legs lasted a few hours for me and only a few minutes for Kristin ( my inner ear is a bit older 😂) Ray made it back without a problem, there is a nice airport in the island with a short flight to Tahiti. Thank you for watching, for your comments and for your curiosity!

@@HarborsUnknown WOW, thanks for all the great info. I apologise if I seem too needed. I like to think that people's comments will help the algorithm and hence the channel. I don't know if this is true or not. I'm thinking of starting my own channel soon. But I really apreciate the feed back and I enjoy you channel and your travels, obviously. Perhaps you can email B&G and tell them you have a weather window and need to have the situation sorted ASAP. No doubt they will have heard that one before, but it might help them to see your channel and see how they are being ROASTED. This will affect sales... Good luck in any case!

Complimenti ragazzi!! Ne avete fatta di strada, bravi. I have had Garmin for my cycling, watches, diving and fitness my whole life. Their stuff is bullet proof and the few times I have had an issue product support replied instantly and swapped out my (heavily used devices) for refurbs. When I tell people that I want Garmin on our boat they all tell me that B&G is the only way to go. However, every boat I have ever sailed on that had a B&G had some sort of problem, like screen burn-in, glitchy touch screens etc ... and now, seeing your experience I am convinced that B&G will NEVER be on my boat. I appreciate learning through your channel. Kristin, knowing what you know now about cruising with a dog, would decide to take Yoda again?
@HarborsUnknown
@HarborsUnknown Год назад
Grazie! Sounds like Garmin is the way to go but at this point we're getting warranty replacements and it's not in the budget to replace the whole system. Since we had Yoda for 3 years before going cruising I would definitely take her again. There's no way I could re-home her. That being said I would not choose to get a dog if I didn't have one and knew I would be going cruising. It adds a lot more work, frustration, money and limits where you can go in some cases. Thanks so much for watching!

@@HarborsUnknown thank you for the feedback. We have a three year old toy poodle that we absolutely love so re-homing is not an option. Our boat will be ready at the end of 2025 and we plan to cast off in 2026 so he is coming along. Leo and Yoda can hang out when we meet up.

Other than the admin stuff we love having Yoda on board. She forces us to go to shore more often so we end up doing more and probably meeting more people. The locals in Panama and FP absolutely love dogs so we end up interacting with locals more. Congrats on your upcoming adventure, that's so exciting! We'll see you out there!
