Yeah me too. When the redesign comes, we will see what happens. The bad part is the redesign will probably be a departure from what people love so much about the 70.

They do need a short wheel base competitor to Wrangler/Bronco. I believe I’ll keep my 2012 FJ TT.

This Land Cruiser will have the 112” wheelbase Toyota considers the golden number. It will be just a Prado, as we have recently learned.

@@IndependenceOverland So basically it will be a scaled down version of the Lexus GX 550? 112 is 4 inches shorter than the 4dr bronco. 👍

I see the patriot 79 series there as testing some waters and generating a bit of feedback. The troop carrier and dual cab are both loved vehicles here but they do have inherent problems that we would love to see fixed. wheel track, auto gearbox option, better performing version of the v8, bit more comfort on the inside like better seats, better airconditioning and yes cupholders and lastly the turning circle. Personally I would love to see a landcruiser 300 extra cab and dual cab with better gvm or bring us the tundra with the landcruiser 200 turbo diesel v8 engine and 4.49 tonne gvm at a decent price.

Sounds like they are giving an auto option now! Yeah the 70 really wouldn’t sell well here, people are already complaining the new Land Cruiser is 55k to start. If the 70 was sold here, the few people that would buy them wouldn’t need to buy another one for 10-20 years so sales would be bad no doubt.

Whoever TFL’s insider is was spot on about the hybrid tundra back in like 2019 or 2020. I remember watching that TFL video where Andre was talking about it. Let’s hope they’re right again.

The Land Cruiser Prado is a true Land Cruiser, extremely capable off road : I have been owning them for 20+ years now without issues -- now well over 1Million kms all in all with my Prados. Currently owning a 2012 150 Prado series with 3.0L Diesel 190HP engine and 186000 kms -- a reliable truck; Some people love to play the game of Land Cruiser Prado not being a real tough Land Cruiser aka 80/100/200 series: that is nonsense. Land Cruiser Prado are all over the place, and probably the most common (nly sold) Land Cruiser in lots of countries nowadays. Please do not underestimate Prado . They are really what they claim to be , and certainly not a (what?) SUV : they are proper off road vehicles, with good clearance, low range, lockers, rear solid axle (ok no front solid axle ) ...... and lots of accessories if need be ; give them a 2.5' lift, BFG KO2, and there you are. So if the US is to receive the Land Cruiser Prado, that's a true gift ; LC300 price tag would be another story......another target......better leave it on the Lexus side. ; And 70 series are out of the game because of emissions ..... (unfortunately!)

If Toyota put the TrailHunter next to the patriot campers Land Cruiser, might it be because they’re trying to associate the trail hunter with those Land Cruiser vehicles… to suggest that it was inspired by that vehicle… And is the modern version of it?

We will see! The new 70 series Prado has the body lines of these classic Land Cruiser. That would make way more sense to me than @Toyota just releasing a lesser version of the GX550. Releasing 2 of the same vehicle doesn’t make sense, but releasing a real Land Cruiser makes an awful lot of sense from a product offering standpoint.

lining up with your speculation, the owner of a local toyota dealership told me that Toyota is bringing back a new vehicle that is a mix of the FJ and Land Cruiser / Prado. This would be very exciting!

No doubt it’s a tough vehicle, but compared to the 300 or a 70 it’s not quite there. My Fj Cruiser is basically a Prado and it’s been beaten for 13 years, and has held up incredibly well!

As a 78 series Troopy owner here in Australia be prepared to spend loads of cash to build a 70 series to your requirements (hence the desire of a blank canvas). You will need an endless supply network of accessories and modification parts available. For you guys in the USA to enjoy a 70 series be prepared to spend copious $$$ to accessorise a legendary 76, 78 or 79. You will need the similar supply network that we enjoy here in Australia, otherwise you will not gain the full benefit of the 70 platform because in standard platform it is poor. For example, Toyota has upgraded the GVM in 70 series but still has not corrected the rear differential track width... and yes, the current 70 series platform will need significant engineering mods for it to be passed in USA (yet you guys can chuck on 37s with no issues, here in Australia engineering is required for 35s or more..). I digress. Given the demand for the 70 in Australia and other lucky countries, the USA misses out, but foresee future upgraded "70" platforms going to USA as you guys are craving solid axles Toyota's... As for the 300 or Prado, do you really need that type of vehicle when you have a plethora of SUVs? For overlanding, I'd say you want the 300 more than a Prado (?), least there is better load capacity in a 300 over the Prado. Given the demand for the 300 here in Australia and other countries, it would be years before USA would get a 300, less so the Prado. Don't get me wrong, many Aussies here have built up impressive Prados but at the detriment of weight added to the vehicle. Wouldn't it be great if Toyota offered a basic no bones 300 but with front/rear differential locks and other good stuff for offroad. I couldn't give a shit about leather interior or fancy accessories. Just a blank canvas is what most 4x4 enthusiasts want.

Yeah I have looked into importing an old troop carrier but even with legendary reliability, it would still be a 25 year old vehicle that would be hard to source parts for. I am pretty optimistic about what we have coming to the US though. I will still dream about a 70 series, but will also accept it’s not likely to become a reality. Thank you for the detailed comment! I like it when people remind me how impractical a 70 would be here, it puts my mind at ease than I shouldn’t spend so much energy thinking about it all the time! 🤣

@Independence Overland ha ha money money money... I love my Troopy and wouldn't have it any other way, mostly because of the extensive mods and accessories here in Australia..... how about a front solid axle swap on the FJ??? That'll make interesting channel content 😁

I wish they would do that here. TRD is okay, but this “TRD Pro” name is goofy. Any “professional” off roader would rip everything they come with off and go after market. The name would be better suited on the Trailhunter line they have coming out. It’s getting hard to keep up with!

Totally agree with you. Toyota, is it too much to ask... can we have solid axels and front and rear locking differentials? I would not be too surprised if Nissan brings out something very interesting and jeep like and way better than a Toyota mall cruiser. Just saying.

Certianly interesting thoughts and perspectives👍 I would say that there isn't much of a chance of Toyota bringing a solid front axle to the US market. I think the Sequoia change to solid rear axle was simply a necessity for better towing capability which was a necessary category for the Sequoia to compete in. Solid front axles are rubbish for everything but hard core off roading/rock crawling which I'd say a huge minority of buyers of these vehicles do. Heck some pretty hard core off roading can be done with IFS and it's better in all other driving circumstances, for pedestrian vehicles, which is why every modern truck has gone to it aside from the nostalgic niche vehicles like Jeep imo. The Prado makes a lot of sense to me for the Landcruiser that Toyota would bring back tonthe US. Basically they can capitalize on the brand name as most people will be like oooh Landcruiser without k owing that it is a shadow of the vehicles that gave the Landcruiser name its legendary reputation.

Fantastic video but with all due respect you are wrong. Toyota is not bringing the 300 series back. There are three and four year wait times around the world. They just released the Sequoia. And Lexus 600 is the same vehicle. They would cannibalize both. It’s not going to happen. But what is going to happen is the baby Land Cruiser otherwise known as the Prado. It’s a great vehicle but it’s not a real Land Cruiser.

I just got a little overly excited thinking about a returned-to-roots Land Cruiser returning to the US with a solid front axle and locking front and rear diffs. I would buy one, end of story. Now that I've had my moment to daydream, let's get back to reality - nope never happening. I think it's even less likely we see a 70 series in the US. Someone at Toyota hates the North American market and wants us to suffer. That's my theory, anyway.
