I love everything JLR does with their design language, technology, performance. They need to put more efforts in making them reliable. Most people love Range Rover’s but only few rich people buy them because maintenance isn’t an issue for them.

Defender for me, 90 and especially 110. I definitely prefer it to the G Wagen.

It's unique and classier. Unfortunately, LR reliability is still an issue, so the Porsche Cayenne is the SUV I'd go for.

@@HiddenWen You’re absolutely right! LR reliability is too far below par, which is why, even though I love the way they look, I will never buy or lease one.

I have always loved the ruggedness of the LR but absolutely abhor the unreliability of them. Drove them in the Army and RAAF and they were, hands down, much better than the other 4x4s we had in terms of 4x4ing. The new one is absolutely gorgeous and it is a pity that a more reliable brand (ie Toyota Mazda Isuzu etc ) didn't build it....then it would be a runaway success.

Great review! I currently own a 2022 Defender 90 X. Over the years I have had 2018 Discovery, 2011 RR Sport, LR3, and a Discovery II. I find it completely odd that everyone in the comments goes on about reliability. My Defender has been perfect. Not even a single light or warning and its been taken offroad quite a bit. It is my favorite Land Rover I have owned. All of the other LR's I have owned have had very minimal issues if any. Discovery II was the only one I had a seal leak on. Even that was not too crazy to get fixed and it was over 80k miles before it happened. So in my experience the reliability has been good or at least on par with most vehicles. Will the engine outlast a Toyota, probably not, but nobody really buys a car just for the engine. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that don't own these vehicles that give them a bad wrap for reliability. In my experience nearly everyone I have met that says something about reliability hasn't even owned a single Land Rover. Every car manufacturer has their lemons that role off the line. Land Rover is no exception. I would say in my experience especially over the last 20 years the reliability has been good to great for nearly every LR I have owned. The maintenance cost are another story. Its stupid expensive to take them to the dealer. Invest in a Tool to read codes and perform maintenance tasks and you will save a ton doing maintenance on the simpler things yourself. A Defender oil change in the USA is $495 which is absurd so I do my own for $120 in material cost and 30 mins of my time.

Tom, love your reviews and their lack of hyperbole, very refreshing in this day and age. Re the size of the 110, I keep seeing comments that it's some sort of behemoth, but it's actually shorter than a Kia Sorento when you exclude the spare wheel. I appreciate that the spare does add another 30 cm in length, but it isn't part of the car's structure. The 110 is about 250 mm shorter than a LC 200, and much shorter than the dual cab utes now dominating the streets. It is a tall and wide car however, and that's probably where the size impression comes from. I would like to see your take on the 110, but I don't think you've reviewed it?

Actually, the first Land Rover to wear the Defender name was released in 1990. The earlier models (Series I, II, IIA, III and 110) were NOT defenders.

There were lots of changes between S1 and 2. You could argue that 2-3 and 90 to defender were facelifts but s3 to 90 was completely different. Only one part remained the same on all models. Bonus pint if you know what.

I think if you wanted to take the family on an adventure in one of these, I reckon the front mid mounted jump seat would be the first option. Pair with air suspension and the D300 power plant, add basic cloth interior for practicality and convenience. Next, you’d need some sort of trailer for all ur storage, along with a decent roof rack. Kinda elaborate, I know but could be fun all the same if you wanted to stretch to it. Last off, would have to pray you don’t get a lemon ;)

That would be a nice machine but there is just not the volume to make it pay. They need to be selling 100,000 to 150,000 of these things a year to cool wealthy types in Florida and California to make money A machine for hill farmers in North Wales is long gone they ain't got no money ( no money in farming anymore since we left the eu so they say ) will have to stick with that old Subaru 😁😂🤣

@@chasingcars Hi Tom, I like the GV80 but my wife liked the GV70 a bit smaller, don't need the extra space and the bonus is in 3.5T fully loaded guise it is more of a driver's car, but, you know more about this than me. I really like the Rangies, funny enough I like there older styling for the RR Sport and Discovery than their new stuff (since 2012 for the RR Sport) the collage of models all look the same to me now, with the exception of the Discovery which just looks out of proportion. On reliability, if you turn them over every three years on a lease then fine, just don't look at the JD Power reports... Funny enough a mate has gone from RR Sports to Jeep's. Doesn't seem like a step forward to me reliability wise.

I've been looking at these vehicles on the roads in the UK and have to say the shape is not a classic shape. I don't get the upside down T Shape of the vehicle. The shape seems to be a copy of the Skoda Yeti which is well over ten years old.

Definatley won't be English leather, Seats made by Lear Corporation ( U S A ) made in east european plant using east european or south American leather. As is that Defender won't have been anywhere near the U.K.

Hmmm....the 'Defender' was not the same as a Series 1, 2 or 3. Completely different vehicles. The 'Perentie' was not a Defender as it pre-dated the introduction of the Defender and had a completely different chassis. The 'Defender' nameplate and the former platform was around from '94-'17. As someone who has owned 5 Land Rovers (and currently owns a real Defender) I will never be buying another LR product. They have completely lost their way - a company overtaken by marketers and accountants as opposed to engineers. To typify this, the '90' and '110' moniker use to relate to the actual wheelbase length - 90 inches and 110 inches. The new version is simply 'trading' off the old badges and heritage of the previous models. The car is just fake, like the faux chequer plate. Bring on the Grenadier.

"Dileep" says of the wealthy, "... because maintenance isn't an issue for them ." MAINTENANCE??! What you really mean is that all Land/Range Rovers are SO damned unreliable that Consumer Reports magazine rates them all "Much Worse Than Average", their LOWEST rating. Let's face it ANYTHING made by TATA including Jaguars are beautiful to behold but SO poorly made that it's amazing these companies are still in business. Take my 2019 MAZDA CX-5 GT Reserve (2.5 L turbo, AWD). It is rated by Consumer Reports as "Much Better Than Average", their highest rating. Let's compare it to a Land Rover EVOQUE which is about the same size but much more money. My CX-5 is faster, handles better, has better steering feel, more features (tech and mechanical) and looks every bit as good. It just dosen't have the artificial "Badge Cachet", which I thankfully do not have to pay for. If you absolutely MUST have a Land Rover lease it and let the dealership worry about the constant breakdowns.
