In this video we look at the roof mounted rear view mirror / camera on the new Land Rover Defender. We look at how it works / can it be retrofitted / problems for old people with focal length etc.
Hi Simon I am a 70 year old, old goat and I do not wear glasses except for reading small print in dim light and I find the clear view sight mirror perfect in my Defender
Optician speaking here….good old presbyopia causing the problem here. It’s a similar distance from your specs to the dashboard as it would be to the mirror. The problem being where the mirror actually is …. Assuming you wear multifocals ( most presbyopes now do)you would have to lift your head up and to the left to use the mirror- which is clearly not ideal. Many years ago Essilor made a lens for pilots which had a bifocal segment at the top of the lens and a standard multifocal underneath to assist with a similar issue. Why should tradition dictate where The clear view sight mirror is positioned? It needs to be in the dashboard

Nice video Simon. I live in Canada and own the new Defender P130 without the clearsight mirror . I would like to buy the LRA530 from you not is out of stock from your website. Hope I could get all the stuff (LRA530, LRAC871 and the clearsight mirror plus extension cable from you. Looking forward to your next video to do the whole retrofit for the clearsight mirror. It is relatively easy to retrofit the camera and mirror and there are a number of us who have already done it. Also I'm north of 60, wear glasses and don't have a problem with focusing on the mirror at all.
I was thinking of going a different route - making a separate display ( cheap and could be mounted further away ) or a cheaper generic chinese made mirror. Interesting your brain / eyes can cope with the change in focal distance !
I think Land Rover has given you a lifetime of things that have gone wrong with the new Defender and potential things that will go wrong, so you will have many years to produce your videos.
Hi Simon, we just bought a little caravan. Can you create a short video about how various cameras interact when backing the Defender to the hitch and how the cameras help (?!) the driver when they are backing up the attached caravan. Lastly I read in the manual that the driver is supposed to be able to use one of the climate controls to steer the Defender while you are backing up to the caravan (I haven't been able to get that system to work... Very best! Patrick

I have a Defender 110 Trek 2023. It did not come with the Clearsight Rearview Mirror. Does anyone know if there is a legitimate OR hack option to put one in my Defender (perhaps finding a wrecked Defender with the mirror and harvesting it).
Interesting comment and observation about the focal length. Never thought about that as being an issue. Are the slots on the camera pod to allow airflow through and past to stop the muck and rain being sucked back onto the lens like an old volvo estate rear end in the winter - mucky.
so i just broke mine (hit the garage door) and was goiong to replace myself but a LR shop told me it needs to be programed by the dealer. Anyone know if that is true? thanks for the video!
Hi Simon I bought a new defender 130 and while parking in my garage I hit the camera with top of garage door. And it’s all smashed now. Can you fix this for me or replace this? Syed
Hi Simon, I got the same problem with the mirror, obviously prescription related. By the way have you ever parked a small car up tight behind your Landrover and looked at the clear sight ? You may be shocked . !
Interesting - would be great if you could try one of our covers and see if that stops / reduces the problem. The clear sight does only pick things up a fair way back !
Hi Simon need to pick your brains, I’ve got a free lander 2 sd4 hse auto I’ve changed the transmission oil fuel filter and did an oil change but it’s missing at low revs no codes and garage can’t find the issue. Do you think it’s the fuel pump or something else on a run it’s ok but sometimes jerks as though it’s missing. But on start up it misses until reved up thought it was dirty fuel but after using forte fuel cleaner it still misses help please 🙏🏻 it’s doing my head in thanks Steve
Maybe worth doing some live readings with a snap on diagnostics or IID tool - it could be the air flow meter Try running without air filter to see if that makes a difference ( as a test ). The other thing could the throttle body but that normally throws up a code.
@@L663 Howdy! 4. is not installed! Did my first tyre change!!! Crazy.... You need to make a pad block to put under the scissor jack! WAY TOO MUCH WORK 😆 Of course had the flat bed hooked up with over 2 tons of feed on!
