Here's how to remove the center console on a land rover discovery 2 td5 (automatic), once removed you can access the diff lock, gearbox wiring loom harness and xyz switch connector etc this will allow you inspect the wiring for damage in case of any faults if needed. We are checking our XYZ switch wiring loom for damage, but you may have other reasons for taking this all apart we hope you find this video helpful.

Thank you my disco 2 was stuck in low range removed the interlock solenoid and drove out the plunger reinstalled with just the coil also bored a 1"1/4 hole in the shifters mounting plate above the linkage to future lube, finished with a blank plug installed, also shifting cables can be changed through this access. when plate is removed Use 1/4 inch self tapping screws and light black silicone to remount plate above body that was from factory mounted below with rivets. Thanks again.

Although mine is a manual, I used Rivnuts and bolts to put the panel back. Makes it easy to remove next time. Hope you find your fault

Was it an issue with the wiring in the end? Got a similar issue with my Disco, trying to decide if it's worth going to the hassle of dismantling the centre console. @@DanielJohnHowTo

Hi, thank you for the video. My disco has been sitting for a year because we opened the center console to remove a seized transfercase interlock solenoid and while the gear level was disconnected it started flashing m and s lights. Did you find any damage on the wiring harness? What was your issue? Thank you

You probably just need to clear the codes with a nanocom or hawkeye. It happened på me too when I was tearing into the xyz-switch.

What's under the console. I followed y'all's video today it was perfect. But I'm wondering what's under it I should check. Mine is stuck in 4L maybe nothing to do with under the console? . The 4l 4h shifter to transfer case selector isn't moving it's stuck

My M & S lights come on every time I go through a puddle. Had it in garage they cleaned xyz switch but hasn't solved problem. Im gunna try a recon xyz switch next

I would get a scan tool, plug it in and read the codes. I've got the "Autel MaxiLink ML629 OBD2 Scanner", works well and can clear abs codes too you can get cheaper ones.

the xyz switch needed taking apart and cleaning up, we checked the wiring above but it was all good is yours a black or brown cover coloured switch?

@DanielJohnHowTo black xyz on mine, but have already replaced. Just finished taking apart the centre console to find the wiring looks almost new 😅. Think I'll try testing the power feeds from the various ECUs, and clean the grounds for a second time just to be sure

@@steeleybaws sounds like you have done a fair bit which is good, in that case try cleaning up all the grounds, make sure battery terminals are secure and voltage is good I suppose you could also check the ECU connectors for oil ingress too. Is it the M&S flashing lights you are getting and limp mode?

@@steeleybaws I would caution and say don't presume just because you've replaced the XYZ that's job done, there's a lot of scammers out there who sell shoddy "reconditioned" ones that never work. Also bite the bullet and get a nanocom if you haven't already. Just too useful with the Disco 2's not to have one.
