This is by far the best video on how to take off and put back on this crazy switch. Thank you for such clarity. Saved me some serious $$$. Keep up the great vids.
Wow, so good to find your video. Will order the xyz switch and replace mine. No mechanic wants to do it for me in Port Hedland, Western Australia. Half way through a big trip Sydney return, it has to be repaired asap.
Awesome to see your channel growing. Great content so far !! Some informational which is cool too see . Looking forward to the next LOCKED ON 4x4 video !!!
Sweet Land Rover video....Thanks !.... Nice clear view of Exact parts worked on and good clear explanations, Greetings from West Wales !...Land Rover Freedom Machines Forever !!
Please be aware M + S lights are indication for other issues as well. I have had these lights with the Crank position sensor previously, as well as with lack of battery charge. Cheers
Good job and thanks for the vid! It looks like a tight bugger to get at but that’s the Rover way! The ABS shuttle should make your three amigos go away, too. BTW, Landys are all metric now and have been for a while. Your tool kit should work fine for most of your general maintenance. Also, get a box of nitrile gloves. Keeps the nasty chemicals off your skin and can save a skinned knuckle or two. Cheers
Thank you! Yes I do stand corrected that it is in fact metric however I had been previously mis-informed otherwise and this is the first vehicle I have really worked on. Still lots to learn :)
So glad you put this on RU-vid, I’ll be checking Mine this week, so hoping the forecast rain stays off a while, hope I can get away with cleaning it as iv just checked the price for new (£390) that’s nearly 4 days wage, :(
Well I have no ramps or axle stands and it’s to tight to squeeze under to work, did you have to move the exhaust as mine is blocking access to xyz switch. :( and it’s raining heavy. Booking in to garage :(
@@hedgehog1995 no I didn't have to move the exhaust. My disco has a 3" lift also, so plenty of room for me to work under. Hope you can get it sorted :)
Well done you, it looked like a job for the ratchet spanner’s felt it when the nuts fell, Land Rover do have the most horrid tight spots for these repairs, got to love em, 👍
What great video! My M&S lights just started flashing on me yesterday for the first time and I'm already looking into the repair. Your video is the most straight forward and helpful that I have seen anywhere so thanks in advance! One question: you mentioned that you had already taken the part off to rebuild clean; did that help at all? These switches go for $600USD new and at least $150USD used and I am not sure how trustworthy the used ones are. Thinking about trying trying the rebuild first since I am pretty sure the AC condensation is the culprit. Thanks!
Thank you! For me, taking the switch apart and cleaning it did not help at all unfortunately. The contacts inside were really worn out. However, for the cost of the new part, it was definitely worth trying. I hope you have better luck with it than I did! Personally I went for a new one because I wanted a long-term fix rather than a used one with previous water exposure. Cheers
Great video, I followed these instructions and swapped it myself.... very inspiring. I thought to myself if a bloody Kiwi sheila can swap her's lying on the ground, while video taping it aaaannnnndddd making jokes! I need to man up and have a go..... so I did and it was just as you described.... Except right at the end with the fine tuning of tightening the bolts P, R, N all fine then Drive and 123 all flashing. Finally tightened it all up and started the car and low and behold..... all good. Thanks!! JB
I just recently had to replace my ignition cylinder. I also removed the center console and my carpets. Upon reinstalling everything and firing the truck up for the first time I now have m and s lights flashing. No other issues. Still runs and drives but wondering if it is okay to still be an everyday driver while I wait to dig into it more?
Mine seems to have fixed itself, maybe damp in system and dried out? Hoping garage will get a diagnostic answer? Swoped switch anyway running like a dream.
As general advice. When M + S flashes it is due to the following: Step 1 validate that the battery is charged. Step 2: Replace CKP. if the problem continues Step 3 or final change XYZ
Just did this job only to have it still do the same thing. Pulled the center console out and mice had chewed and destroyed the wires going to the transfer case and transmission. Fixed the wires and all is good again. Little bastards
Just took it out and cleaned the contacts and also disassembled the xyz switch. I cleaned it with electrical cleaner and added dielectric grease. I put it back together but still the same. I didn’t have anyone to help me adjust it at the end to see. Do you suggest to buy a new one?
@@lockedon4x4 Well done sorting out the 3 Amigos! That's a really good looking Discovery you have - just a nice lift and not-too-big tyres. Possible to have the details? Thanks
Hi, I also like to replace the xyz switch for my 2004 D2 td5, but found a big exhaust pipe section under the switch, I don't see you have it, how did you put away it?
Hi, I was able to work around my exhaust no worries, but had a muffler removed in the past. You may be able to unbolt the exhaust where sections join to give yourself more space. All the best!
Mine did not, however I had previously removed the muffler. If the exhaust is in the way, it should be able to be unbolted in sections and dropped down to allow for extra room :)
Oh that sounds frustrating! Personally I'd try some CRC or WD40 first. If that doesn't work, I'd try to carefully heat it up without melting any other components. Hope this helps!
The light in the cluster that is under the red oil light, what is it meant to show... I bought one and it had black tape over it and I can't find out what it's hiding 🙄
@@lockedon4x4 yes, that seems to be it. Mine has been covered up.. seems all ok when I'm driving and I have no other lights that are on. I can live with that 😂 thanks for the reply 👍
Could be, however M and S lights flash for other issues also; battery/voltage, Crank position sensor. I would suggest getting someone to scan it if possible, and/or do a bit of research, browse forums. Cheers
Mine only drives in reverse and flashes the M& S lights but won’t drive forward and lacks power I’m wondering if this will let my disco drives forward 🤔
