I would just have to agree with you. There is no denying it. This is just a great improvement form the LR3, which may I add was also a very good car. I have a LR3 and a Range Rover just a massive fan of Land Rover's.
Not anymore with the newer models so the early to mid 2000's Land Rover started to improve their reliability. Yes in the 1990's they did have an issue but every car company has their ups and downs. Now with the newer ones I have owned they are much better in reliability and quality.
James Smith I can't agree more. I'm just such a fan of LR. The Disco 4 etc isn't quite my image, but I'm getting myslef a freelander SD4, I'm going to put some good aggressive mud tyres on it, a performance chip and hit the trails here in South Africa!
I’m not one for going off road but I do tow a largish caravan. I couldn’t bring myself to buy a disco 5 when I traded in my Freelander 2 metropolis so I bought a Volvo XC90 last year.
This is why Land Rover is steering into more road focused cars, cus the offroad technologies they have created and implemented are better performing than most hard-core offroaders out there.
It's not a Rover. Rover was a British company that was sold to BMW and they then closed it. It's a Land Rover. Which are now Indian after ford sold off Jaguar Land Rover group.
It did that without a single struggle at all it did it with ease I can see some people have diss licked this video that must be the Jeep Toyota and what ever else owners i could be wrong but that’s just my opinion as I can’t see a reason to dislike this video showing this truck is capable great video.
JLR oughtta perpetuate the discovery in the Disco 4 Landmark format to do proper justice to the marque. The current disco 5, is actually a crossover and a "pretender to the throne". It can be maintained as an in-between model between the Discovery Sport and the Boxy off road King spawned off of Disco 4 landmark.
I went down a rough hill in my discovery. My girl ran away from the car because the terrain was steep and she thought the car turn over. It was fun. You don't feel the disbalance of the wheels.
Nicely done and nicely filmed too. It's no more capable then a Grand Cherokee or a Cayenne. Yes the Cayenne given the same AT tyres is extremely capable. Mine has centre and rear 100% locking differentials, sway bay disconnect and low range transfer case with the same ratios as the grand Cherokee WK (have both vehicles), not forgetting air suspension which gives almost 12" of ground clearance. (All factory) I'm actually thinking of also getting the Discovery 3 or 4 (aka LR 3 - 4) as we want it to be a possible over lander, our concern being dependability not capability with a Land Rover.
observation: "A Class of it's Own . . " Yeah sure. so was that princess. Had a middle east lover. Partied in foreign countries (that run) drunken nights, left her babies at home . . .
One big bravo - calm, confident, thought-through moves, zero unnecessary bursts of acceleration, superbly managed use of LR's terrain response features. Totally befitting the legendary brand!
Hi, I'm from Chile... I have a LR Discovery 4 SDV6 just since march 2014, I would like to know wich program was used by the driver in this video (mud or rocks program). The car is awesome!! Thanks for responding!
El Landrover es un vehículo muy único pero la gente cuando va a comprar un carro...piensa en Toyota o Nissan o cualquier otro carro y cuando ve un Landrover se lo desea
Well disco and driver, 😆 well done! Lot of controle, patient's with the working of the disco. Have a disco 2, love it to bits. Do you belong to a club in kzn?
i have had 4 disco 2's. (well one is a parts car) they are awesome. the one i have now is the best one I've had. its a 2000 hse7 and I've put the slotted 18's form the '05 hse on her. also many parts from newer '05 parts truck. did much work on her. changing the coils is a bear of a chore. fitted new airbags in the rear. all new hoses new new interior pannels, new master cylinder....too much to list. hows yours been for ya?
Better your hitch hit the ground before a plastic rear bumper. I have a D2 and the trailer hitch constantly goes into the mud and serves as more protection.
Me too , we went for a weekend jaunt last year with a guy who has a HSE (white leather, etc, etc) and it crawled over everthing like a spider - amazing but as he and his mate said "having that level of technology without experience and common sense can lead a driver into predicaments from which they can't save themselves", whereas we Defender drivers have to think more. :)
bighands69 No current stock Defender can match a Discovery 4, I'm afraid. Granted, the above driver was particularly skilled, yet I've seen rank amateur driver's take Disco 4's place's a seasoned off roader in a STOCK Defender 90" would have his skill tested to his limits. After which, the D4 driver can cruise effortlessly home, in half the time, in close to Range Rover comfort, with up to seven companions, whilst almost being able to corner in a large saloon car-like manor, secure in the knowledge that in the unfortunate event of a crash, he or she will have a far greater chance of surviving than in a Defender. Yes, the Defender is iconic, cool, lovable and a very nostalgic all round brute, with bags of character. However, I think it is time for folk to accept that their perception (or disillusion) view's of the once mighty Defender's abilities were beaten (smashed, in most instances) quite some time ago. Only the Defender replacement, developed using RR and Disco technology can have a chance of performing on/off the road in a current Land Rover fashion. I still adore the Defender and series LR's, but seriously, comparing what effectively is a WWII people tractor against a vehicle developed 5 years ago (D5 and Defender replacement out 2016) is like comparing an abacus to an Intel i7 processor or a VW Beetle again a current Porsche 911(same age gap)!
No way a discovery can win over the Range rover-are you out of your mind-the RR is the flagship, the leader and all others follow-in terms of finese , capabilities, luxury and comfort. Its basically a 4x4 limousine
This car is simply awesome, just look how it handles such a difficult trail section. Great work (Car and Driver of course..)! Is this car lifted with replacement rods? And which tire/wheel combo does he use?
Brendan Mitchell Hi! Great video! Do you also think you could fit the BFG Mud Terrain in the same size - 265/65/18? Or would it rub, like in full turn and access mode etc? Maybe they are build too much instead of the AT`s? Thanks!
Brendan Mitchell Hi Brendan, I am also from KZN, where did you purchase those 18" rims and if you don't mind my asking what did you pay for the 5 of them? And where in KZN did you buy your spare wheel on the door bracket? Thanks
Jesse Grossert If i am not mistaken, which i dont think i am its the Compimotive wheels Size: 08 x 18 Wheel: PD1881 the only 18inch wheels which can be fitted on the D4. Comp's are well know in Europe (Bowler uses them for racing which says it all.) www.comp.co.uk/wheels/wheels.asp?size=motorsport-wheels-18-13 . Also a good read for D4 owners www.l2sfbc.com/rmp/blog/rims-for-discovery-4-range-rover-sport Some available tyres for 18" rims include: Bridgestone D697 LT-construction LT265/60R18 Cooper AT3 265/60R18 Mickey Thompson STZ 265/60R18 Achillies Desert Hawk Xtreme MT 265/60R18 Continental CrossContact AT 255/60R18 General Grabber AT 255/60R18 Yokohama Geolander AT/S 265/60R18 Goodyear Silent Armor 265/60R18 Hankook Dynapro ATM 265/60R18 Pirelli ATR 265/60R18 BFG AT LT-construction LT265/65R18 Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/60R18 (requires slight modification to fit) Maxxis Bighorn MT LT275/65R18 (requires HS shortened rods + modification to fit)
+kelt thomas LOL but its hanging out so far its going to get hooked and with the leverage its going to bend something if it does get hooked. Its going to be hitting the ground in areas where neither the bumper or hitch would hit if it were off. I have a LR with hitch so I should know. If you want to use a hitch to protect at least have it higher so its not like a dagger dragging in the sand, rocks etc.
People who mimick land rover reliability are just jealous because they cannot afford to buy one and end up with a piece of shit made outside of the Great UK owned land rovers for 14 years and they have been very reliable able and cheap to maintain with good resale values
depends off how extreme you off road these are luxury SUV that can take 7 passengers and has great off road a competitor is the Toyota Land Cruiser and Mercedes Gl series but I say land cruiser is the main competitor however maintenance cost more on this stock tires however suck in snow but are great in anything else if what you do in off road is not too extreme sure
+HERPY DERPEDY not much mostly a intown but only used it in the beach but thats all???? But i like my jeep for the not so suv style like tahoes and suburban i have 2 kiddos and a/c sucks on the jeep
Miguel Gonzalez then it would be great instead if the usual 2 high 4high 4 low land Rover has terrain control all you have to do is select say sand snow mud rock and they ride way smoother on road Ac is good too has it for first and second row only negative is gas mileage 5.0 V8 has nice power terrible on fuel economy
+Miguel Gonzalez yep these get around 12 mpg look also at the other models land Rover has range Rover and discovery sport which are way more efficient think all of them powered by a turbo 4 cylinder my family is use to filling the tank we have a 5.4L Ford Expedition a Duramax Diesel Powerstroke 6.2 Chevy since we haul heavy stuff hell we towed 15,000 pounds with our Expedition a dump trailer with trash
Haha no flex whatsoever, only saved by its fancy electronics, a stock jeep would have destroyed that unreliable POS on that beginner trail. LR and range rover suck. They are the most unreliable cars on the planet, look it up
Wren Gooding A buddy of mine goes serious off roading (think 45 degree + inclines) and swears by LR. He drives a chevy and has had Jeeps and has gone out with jeeps. They are all destroyed by LR. But some are better than others.
+Wren Gooding you just made a fool outa yourself with that statement ....lol Maybe take one out off road if you ever get to it.. stock jeeps are shit... Jeep is shit in its own glory... lol
