Great video. I have the 110 Landrover ex-army radio version with canvas top and was wondering about an electric conversion so very interesting. Came by way of the bulldozer video. Lovely bit of land you have out bush, looks like a fun driveway. Keep up the great work.

Thanks. My previous 110 was the FFR version!

I find your videos so so entertaining and I really liked the ending with the dancing feet. Thank you

Thanks for the video. Can't wait for the next one. l'm learning plenty by watching your efforts and the great commentary that comes with it . SuperfastMatt came up with a great solution for the rest of us. He's a clever guy. Roughly what do you think the external dimensions of your battery box will be when finished ?
@sydneyg007
@sydneyg007 Год назад
Thanks, and good to hear! I found SuperfastMatt's videos very usefull. I am also doing things different to him (especially the way I am doing the penthouse) so the more different ideas and information out there the better for everyone! Battery will be 1960mmlong, 900mm wide, 240mm high (although one end will be about 360mm high for the extra penthouse components.

@@sydneyg007 l am working on an old vehicle model 3 conversion as well. Going by your dimensions do you think the battery could be narrowed to about 800mm ?
@sydneyg007
@sydneyg007 Год назад
@@billhill4479 Nice. What sort of vehicle? 800mm should be no problem. I ended up cutting mine down to about 770mm which still leaves plenty of space for bolts.

@@sydneyg007 Thanks for the reply. 59 Ford F100 pick up. Using Superfast Matt's idea there is enough room between the chassis rails to fit the battery box going on your measurements. Putting the battery between the rails and using the model 3 read drive unit makes for a really efficient package space wise. l have a few options for penthouse locations which l will work out later. Thus retaining a useful rear bed space and creating a frunk.

@@billhill4479 Sounds awesome! If you can fit between the chassis rails that would be ideal.

Another great video, the project is coming along nicely. You are not concerned about having the battery so close to the rear with no crumble zone in case you are hit from the rear? I know rear of the Land Rover cross bar is strong, but in the unlikely case something hits higher than that?
@sydneyg007
@sydneyg007 Год назад
Thanks! Yes, rear crumple zone is definitely a consideration! I'm not to concerned though. To be honest the 20 litre diesel jerrycan that sits right on the back has about x3 times the energy potential of the 75kwh battery! Worst case senario would result in the pyro blowing (a jerrycan doesn't have this safety feature!)

@@sydneyg007 I guess you are right. But a hard hit to a Lithium-ion battery may give some uncontrollable fireworks ;-)
@sydneyg007
@sydneyg007 Год назад
@@Abarth695Maserati Possibly, but it's going to be a dam sight safer than it is at the moment with the diesel. Electric cars are 20 times less likely to catch fire than petrol or Diesel cars - that's because fuel is A LOT more volatile than batteries! I guess people still think the other way around because the rare EV fire is almost always reported in the media whereas it's not worth reporting on a petrol or Diesel car fire as it is so common in comparison. The Land Rover currently has a 60 litre Diesel tank that sits under the drivers seat (which is 8.6 times the amount of energy than the 75kwh Tesla battery) - In a side collision this will very likely be compromised and have Diesel spew everywhere and if that comes into contact with anything hot or any sort of electrical spark it Will ignite. I've processed thousands of old laptop lithium batteries and have yet to have one ignite (even when I punctured them). Battery fires also take a lot longer to get going so you have much more time to walk away before anything exiting happens. Thanks for bringing up the safety issue though - spurs me on to wanting to get get it done quicker!

Don't you think the batteries should have some insulating layer between them? Do the battery modules below support the weight of the top modules?
@sydneyg007
@sydneyg007 Год назад
I guess it sort of looks like the top modules sit directly on the bottom modules but they are supported by the beams down the centre and the outsides. There is a decent gap between the top and bottom modules. There is an insulation layer on top of the modules but the air gap does more than this anyway.👍

Did I miss what your final packaging dimensions were?
@sydneyg007
@sydneyg007 9 месяцев назад
Probably not. I probably forgot to mention it! 1970mm long x 900mm wide (without mounting flange) x 230mm high. That's package in the fibreglass enclosure I made (see episode 10).
