Dear All,
I spent some time at the garage today giving the Land Rover a good wash. I realised that while doing this, I haven't really washed the car for many years. Last time was when I was driving it back in the 90's and it was stationed in Kent, England.
It's not the most water tight of vehicles, so a bit of water ended up on the inside, but no big deal really.
After using it in the winter months, I was glad to get all that salt off the car; in places it had started go fluffy, which wasn't good.
I also dowsed many of the vulnerable areas with WD-40 which is a foirst for me. And a good tip for preserving the old thing.
Hope you are all well and enjoying the weekend.
Regards
Joël

Hi Joel on my series 2a 109 11” set up, there are these tiny adjustable threaded rods that with a bit of plastic on the tips that help square up the shoe to the drum. If they’re out of adjustment the shoes will sit a bit cockeyed and make the pedal effort higher.

I also use the WD40 spray trick wherever metals meet, hinges, crossmember tabs, bolt heads etc. It's another layer of protection that seeps down into gaps and impedes corrosion, especially dissimilar metals corrosion. For chassis/underbody protection (as well as WD40) I really rate Bilt Hamber Dynax UC wax. It doesn't hide anything but is very effective.

I use a Ryobi cordless workshop blower with the soft nozzle for blowing out all the water trapped around my cars after a wash and also on the inside of my farm vehicle - it is very handy.

Hi Robert, thanks for the tip. 👍

Good stuff Joel. I've got servo assisted brakes, I've also fitted power steering (box from Suzuki Vitara and electrically operated hydraullic pump from Opel Astra). Works very good indeed.

Ah, now that sounds like an interesting idea. And you kept the original series axles for that mod?

@My911 the oil bath air filter was removed to make room for the pump and replaced with a K&N filter, other than that, I kept everything else as original.

Squeaky clean! Looking good Joël! I prefer the older rims too. Those stem valves can be replaced pretty quickly/easily by any good tire garage.

Hi Charles. Nice to hear from you. These rims have inner tubes so they would have to be changed. The tyres are also ancient and quite hard so if I stuck with the rims I would need new tubes and the. I guess mount the Goodrich tyres. Would look very cool and drive a lot better. Hmmm, decisions. 😀

@@My911 Now that make sense. I'm considering swapping my (tubeless) tires out for a more classic/narrow tire.

@@ckpendleton that sounds good. Will make the truck look even more authentic. Which tyre have you decided on?

Thanks for another interesting video Joel. I've not commented for a while but have been catching up on the last few videos since Christmas. Interested to see what you do with the wheels /tyres as I have the same dilemma, nicely painted wolf wheels with old tyres and really scruffy standard wheels with road tyres. It's down to personal choice of course but it seems like the more standard look is the way to go at the moment. Good luck with the MOT test ( or whatever it is called over there) . After sorting out my cooling system and dash wiring, mine has just failed on some chassis corrosion that I didn't spot! The list of jobs never gets any shorter but I wouldn't have it any other way. All the best Mike.

Hi Mike, great to hear from you. I hope you are well. I know what you mean with that list of jobs. If it’s not the chassis it’s something else, then another thing etc… drum brakes is next. I also need to replace the washer motor for the wipers. It’s never worked 😬

@@My911 The windscreen washer pump has been a source of ongoing frustration on mine. I have now been through 2 Britpart items which seemed to last until just before MOT time so this time I bought a Lucas item from Emberton Imperial which works perfectly and looks the part. Hope that helps when you get to that job. All the best Mike

Also you might need to check with the TUV whether the 235/85R16 tyres from the 6.5" Wolf rims will be OK on 5.5" Defender tubeless rims?
