The difference is geography. In the next 15 years we are going to see an insane demographics crisis and dozens of communities are going to disappear from the map. We are not reproducing. Maine will continue to survive in a different way; the economy may be depressed but not nonexistent. Your coastal population is far large enough to sustain itself even through minimum wage means - it may be poverty but you will still be there. We will see remote towns and communities vanish from the map. It breaks my heart. Hundreds of years of history gone for a government coercement
