I especially love your sessions with the Rytm. They are fascinating. You seems to push it to unexpected levels every time. When I watch I go "hmmm, maybe I should've kept it". Thanks for sharing.

Glad it’s enjoyable. It’s always a tricky thing when selling gear, I’ve definitely sold stuff i wonder if i should have kept. I try not to sell stuff anymore for that reason but it can still happen. Hopefully these videos don’t cost you money haha. Maybe borrow one and see if your view has changed. £2k is a heap of money.

Exactly the same. I sold mine but only ER videos make me question my decision. His performances are unlike anything I have seen or heard on YT with Rytm. today the discount ends … hmmm. )

It’s probably the worst (or best) time, finding something that sounds good to you and there being sales on everywhere. Hopefully someone got it for you as a gift and your bank balance is still healthy 😇

You should consider doing a Patreon or tutorial rtym series of how you achieve this it’s incredible when you see it in the hands of someone with deep knowledge thank you for sharing the project as well for free

Hey thanks, appreciate the kind support. We do actually have a Patreon, but it’s purely for supporting through money as some people that works for them, and I’m not a fan of pay walls. You don’t get anything more than anyone else, but it’s there should you be interested. www.patreon.com/horizontal_egoless_anarchistic_music_label/about Im actually waiting for some extra studio camera supports and plan on doing more videos, some music like before, some chatting like the new ones, and some that are more how i use something. I’m not sure exactly what the format will be but I’m thinking focused on one area at a time, fx, distortion, Overbridge, keyboard tracking, sound design etc Do you have any suggestions? I’m up for hearing anything you think might work. Cheers

Ah very kind. You mentioning this being THE drum machine, reminds me that for the first time during this video, i felt this is among the best drum machines, the new OS upgrade has brought it to a new level where it really starts to sound more together and connected as a drum machine. We are living in good times indeed with new music tech.

I haven’t followed new bugs although did experience one with the new sample load shortcut feature where it duplicates the file. What’s the P-lock recording bug? I reckon there will be an update soonish to tidy some bugs..maybe haha

@@ExpectResistance Try sequencing just 16 straight steps of anything, hats for example, then hold record and press play to go into live record mode and just twist the velocity encoder while on that voice. It seems to only record to the BD track? So if you have a kick pattern already then you’ll mess it up and overwrite the velocities. Can’t live record velocity changes anywhere but BD!

Mine got a TON better from the calibration. I had a lot of sounds that were not tuning correctly, and a bass drum that was “floppy” sounding, likely way too low like yours.

Ahh good to hear I’m not the only one. Was your calibration really quick the second time? Mine just listed the missing stuff so was fast.

Apparently, according to Elektronauts forum and Elektron reps, the old way of warming up the machine for two hours first before calibration is now obsolete. This new calibration is to be done when the machine is room temperature.

Ah ok, I wasn’t clear as the guidance didn’t say don’t do it and couldn’t find it in the forum. I wonder what caused my initial issue then? It worked ok second time round but was not quite right initially. Cheers for the clarification though 👍

Great video - followed you here from the Elektronauts forum - brilliant explanation and sounds - all the people you reference are right up my street! The Carl Craig/Landcruising (an incredible piece of wax!) part might be due to the fact they added a square wave to the cowbell....

I wish that you could assign the various drum models to each pad since you are limited to bass drum on first couple pads and so forth.

It would be nice yeah. I occasionally get caught out by that but don’t find it a massive issue ultimately, especially less so now with the upgrade, which allows more flexibility in each machine. One good thing about it being more fixed is if you create kits and patterns you can more easily switch out kits and patterns and things still work a bit. Although they need to be quite standard kits. The Roland R8 has a similar kit/pattern architecture although any sound can be anywhere, and that does give some awesome and unexpected grooves, almost certainly why early Aphex and Autechre stuff had such radical beats.

Can I ask if, in this specific video, are you using any of the MkII functions? Thinking a mkI is more in scope for me, but this is what I want to do! Amazing

Hey As far as I know, as i don’t own a Mk1, the main differences are sampling in and external CV control, maybe some subtle button differences between the two models. Maybe someone else knows better than me. I don’t think there is anything in this video that you can’t do in the MK1 👍 I can see the Mk1 holding value well, still eligible for the upgrade which is 🤯 so if you got a Mk1 and wanted to go the Mk2 route later, i would assume you would probably get your money back, maybe more actually.

Yeah dude, and a bit easier to control and gainstage. I used to struggle a lot with that mush the Rytm is always fighting (it's lovely when you can ride the edge) so I eventually wound up with a Syntakt instead, which I immediately found easier to control on the fly. But I heard rumors 1.7 tighted things up so I swapped the ST out for my old friend and I gotta say.. They did it man. They really honed in the Rytms sound.
