I congratulate the person who took this footage. The views are breath taking and the video is exciting. It is a real aviation ,short documentary. You feel you were inside the plane.
Yeah, it's amazing how well they're able to navigate through correct landing patterns, getting around other air traffic, and navigating through all kinds of weather or at night. Also, when seeing this landing video, this aircraft seems to be even closer above the Manhattan skyscrapers than other NY landing videos I've seen. One thing I do know is how many choppers are flying around the skyscrapers of Manhattan, the Manhattan tour helicopters, emergency rescue/hospital helicopters, charter shuttle helicopters (to LaGuardia), news choppers, privately owned choppers. I also saw a video of the Manhattan tour helicopter and it didn't seem to be flying any lower than this aircraft was around 3:00. I'd thought before that the descending aircrafts are still higher up than all the choppers whirling around above the skyline, but I'm not so sure now after seeing this video. It's amazing how they are all able to navigate around each other without even any near run-ins
Hi, it is amazing each city is set up with control centers other than the control towers that handle the Airport Vincinity around the airport ie.....for example New York Center, Miami Center, Chicago Center and so forth, so when a airline takes off its handled by the control tower.....when its about 3,000-7,000 feet the control tower tells the pilot to turn his radio to a different channel and then that cities center of aircraft controllers handle the planes direction and flight path to the next destination along the route that the pilot files before he even takes off as he plans the flight in breifing...for instance a plane going to from New York to Chicago is handled usually two control centers and they tell the pilots what altitude and speed to fly , they are the ones who keep the skys safe..along with the pilots too...
The last time I landed at LGA was in May 1997, but it was at night. It's good to see the aerial view of the city during the day, and what a clear, beautiful day this landing is! Thank you very much for sharing.
You were so lucky on this flight. you were seated on the perfect side for the view and on top of that the pilot gave you a tour of the whole city. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
@@frankgrimesification It probably looks and smells a lot different from what you remember of it. I’m not saying that you made the right decision or the wrong decision. You’re entitled to choose the life you want call
As someone who tried to hold a camera steady during a landing, I have to congratulate this camera person. Great footage steadily held camera for ages. Well done.
Ten days before the NYC attacks on 09/11/01, I landed at LGA from a Colorado vacation! We marveled at the magnificent views of the Manhattan skyline, ( which went closer to the buildings then) & nearly looked directly down at the top of the Twin Towers! Little could we imagine that they would be gone in less than two weeks! (Landing at LGA reminded me of what it might be like to land on the deck of a Navy carrier!)
I made the same flight on September 14th, 2001. Our company had sent a charter flight to get us back from Europe, and as we flew into LGA that evening, we looked down into the smoking hole of the former World Trade Center. It's an image seared in my memory.
This video prompts important and pleasant memories. In 1998, I made my first trip to New York. The Air Canada a319 followed this pattern for 31. At 3:06, I looked out the window, at a steeper angle than is in this video, and saw the plane making a big left turn around the Statute of Liberty. It was an amazing right. I was in New York for what proved to be life-changing medical treatment; the flight was all part of the experience. Thanks for posting.
@@zachunderwood9586 The Empire State Building was the most recognizable building in Manhatten, and the building that I looked for first. Other notable buildings were the Chrysler Building, the Pan Am Building and the United Nations. The twin towers of the World Trade Centre were, at first, a bit of a challenge to pick out from within the "jungle" of buildings because of the altitude of the aircraft. The buildings were basically featureless, from a distance, unlike the other more distinct structures mentioned. However, as the plane continued to descend, the WTC became easier to identify.
@@WaterlooExpat That’s awesome I wasn’t alive when they were around so I like to ask people what they were like and there significance to the old Manhattan skyline!
@@zachunderwood9586 I was in my early teens when the WTC was built. As far as I was concerned, NY made a mistake by allowing other buildings to be taller than the Empire State Building. NYC stopped being NYC, and lost some of its character, when the Empire State lost its rightful status when higher structures were constructed.
@@zachunderwood9586 the twin towers were the best ever and were the backbone of the NYC Skyline. What a shame the CIA took it down and made people believe Mohammed Atta did it. Sure some Saudis in flip flops
Never ceases to amaze me the skills a pilot possess . Landing an aircraft in such a larger populated area. Amazing. Brilliant footage of NY well captured 👍
Yes, the pilots have skills, aided by GPS/Electronic navigation, charts, and Air Traffic Control. Together, the skies remain the 'safest way to travel' (statistically).
@@TrapLegionRecords yes it is 4k plus you dont need 8k to tell you that plus fact 8k is not fully supported yet with monitors /graphics etc so stop the ball crap
Thank you so very much for this video, I am 80 yrs and haven't flown for the last 30 of those years. I love flying, I love London and visit regularly when we are not worrying about the virus. This was a real treat. Maybe I will get to fly again, I hope so. In the meantime I am going to watch this often.
Looks like they are flying the Expressway Visual approach to RWY 31 at KLGA. I have flown it many times while I was based in New York flying a Boeing 757 from 2000 to my retirement in 2015. Very challenging, but great fun! A chance to do what I call "sport flying", just like a Cessna pilot would do, except I was flying a big jet airliner. We would fly to the big white Maspeth gas tanks in Brooklyn, then follow the BQE expressway until abeam Citi Field, then make a huge left turn and line up on final approach to Runway 31. While it was never verbalized by the LGA tower controller, they expected you to stop prior to the intersection of RWY 31 and RWY 4/22 because they would be taking off on RWY4. It was a matter of professional pride to stop in such a short distance, and any pilot who could not stop and went through the intersection was held in low esteem by other pilots and ATC, but it was perfectly legal to do so.
I just returned from a flight last week from MSP to LGA sitting on the left side of the plane at a window seat (on Delta to boot), & this video felt like a detailed playback of what I experienced - including the very smooth landing. Thanks for posting !
Just beautiful. Just perfect. It makes me want to fly. I love that quiet sound on the engine....so breathtaking views. Thank you for making this video.
In my day, this was called the Expressway visual approach for runway 31. After passing the southern tip of Manhattan, the pilot follows the east river up to the Maspeth tanks (I just updated this, the approach now flies over Brooklyn, not the East river), then turning right to follow the Long Island expressway until almost intersecting the centerline of runway 31. This takes a path near the old World's Fair grounds and the Stadium (CITI) used by the METS. Turn left and basically cross over the water at about 500 feet to land straight ahead. What is remarkable in this video is the clear sky and great visibility. Great landing too!
It was cool to see the reflecting pool and the Unisphere from the 1964-65 Fair being so close to Citi Field. Also, downtown Brooklyn has some pretty big buildings which I didn’t realize.
@@chasbodaniels1744 the buildings in downtown brooklyn are going up really fast....I’ve lived a 20-minute walking distance away from downtown BK for years and the past 1-2 years has made it so different!!
I went to that 1965 Worlds Fair in Queens that the Jet flew over when I was a little snot nose 7 year old kid from Westchester County New York. Brings back good memories of N.Y.C. Those were the days. Left N.Y.C for Florida in 1989 (31 years ago) which was the end of a great era in N.Y.C. Just not the same City anymore. A dirty crime ridden noisy rathole. And the Winters are horrible. No thanks!!
Commenting 2/8/21 MON at 6am EST...from southern RI...SIMPLY AWESOMED views of Manhattan...as the last time I was in NYC was way back on MON 4/15/85...when I drove a Port Washington Delux Taxi cab there...in the Wall Street section too...as shown here....quite a big change in the lineup of the buildings and so on in the past 36 years' time.....nice shot of the NY World's Fair section too..I was there in November 1965...still remember my wonderful visit there..when I was in 3rd grade.....Anyways.....gorgeous weather day for the beautiful landing....as now...almost 10 months later..a pipeline of snowstorms are still on tap.... Again...huge pleasure in seeing this live awesomed video of the landing at LGA airport((I drove a taxicab many times since SUN 3/19/78, BTW.....before moving to southern RI on 9/3/86...))
Ahh landings at the good old U.S.S. LaGuardia to make pilots feel like they are Top Gun... From 7:45 to 8:10 you'll notice the plane does a very sharp turn around Citi Field (where the Mets play). Growing up, when it was Shea Stadium, planes were less efficient and louder, and I think that route used to actually be quite a bit closer. The roar of the jets was so distracting that pitchers would sometimes wait for it to throw a pitch since batters would see an MD-88 or other noisemaker roaring out past the outfield from right to left. It was a cool home field advantage to know the landing routes that day.
Memories.....2:45, I remember the first time I saw this exact view as the plane turned......will never forget it. Can’t wait to go back once things get better (covid)
Incredible, it seems that it was a few months ago and it has been 20 years since my wife and I took the same flight from Laguardia airport to Mexico City ... and we could appreciate exactly the same, thank you for making me remember ... 👍
I flew over newyork about 29 years ago (sat on the west side of the plane ) just as it was going dark wow what an experience that was phenomenal ive never forgot it thanks for posting this brought back very happy memories
Delta is the only carrier I travel with. Couldn’t have asked for a more clear calm day. Plenty of well known landmarks and buildings. Nice cinematography. Manhattan helicopter tours views are even more awesome with views of Sights which Include: Statue of Liberty, Ellis & Governors Islands , Ground Zero/WTC Site & Battery Park, Financial District, Empire State & Chrysler Buildings, Times Square, Central Park and the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum for about $180 for 15 min but this was pretty awesome for the price.
I watched this on my Laptop up close with headphones on during my first beer of the weekend after work, For ten minutes in a beer buzz it brought back great memories of free travel before the nightmare of Pandemic, Coming from Ireland we used to land in JFK but this was a wonderful new experience for me, Thank you.
Some awesome views of NYC - greetings from Germany... Haven't been there yet, but my parents went there back in '78. Still got those photos. But i went to San Francisco 40+yrs ago when i was 12. We were circling a few laps, that's what i remember, but sadly i don't know any specific birdviews of that beautiful city anymore. But still that was my first thought, while watching this wonderful vid...
I was an ATC at LGA 1989-2000. This looks like the "expressway visual approach RW 31". This was a great approach for the pilots but for ATC it could sometimes be a pain. On this approach all planes did not turn "base" at the same place so this lead to spacing issues and actually delayed departures. Anyway, it was fun to watch. I heard they had taken down the "Maspeth Tanks", so it was no longer on the approach plates. Hard to miss two giant red and white checker board painted gas tanks on final.
It reminded me of the checkerboard sign near the old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong. I was quite surprised to learn, just now, that the sign has been restored to its original state in 2021.
This reminds me of my first time flying. About 2 years ago I flew from New York to Houston, Texas for Christmas 🎄. And on the flight back from Texas to New York this was the same view that I had. I took a video of this arrival into LGA. It’s amazing flying anywhere. I don’t know why I was so afraid to fly. Now I really love flying. My video has the Statue of Liberty 🗽 in it. Idk if I saw it in this one.
Yes, it's there--right after they curve into Brooklyn--it's a little bit behind the island which comes into view there--Brooklyn's skyline is a little bit in front and to the left.
I visited America for the first time when I was a kid. This is the same route we flew into New York. I was so excited when I saw Manhattan through the window. Great memories 🙂
Amazing seeing the evolution of Manhattan's skyline over the recent years with the New World Trade Center, and all those super skinny megatall buildings popping up around Central Park!
Great views, My first time flying into LGA was from the sane vantage point...I was ecstatic and almost lost it bouncing back and forth in my seat. "Believe the hype... just the sight of NYC will electrify anyone".... I mean anyone with a pulse!!!!
Ive never been to New York City, always wanted to go.. Absolutely breath taking video of the city and surrounding area, I've only really ever seen NYC in bits and pieces in movies, or on pages of a map, what really struck me about this video is what a massive area it is, NYC and surrounding burroughs. Im in Los Angeles, born and raised, I always thought that miles and miles of urban sprawl was unique to us out west, looks like NY has us beat on that lol. Great video, thanks for posting
You're always welcome to come visit. Among other things , NYC has the world's best pizza, especially from the independent non- chain pizza restaurants. With regard to urban sprawl- i was raised in the Riverdale/Kingsbridge section of the northwest Bronx. That neighborhood was so far north that it bordered on the City of Yonkers in Westchester county. Furthermore, my subway ride commute to my first young adulthood jobs in Manhattan was often as long as 60-90 minutes, each way.
Many Thanks to the author. . Fantastic clear Video ! - Passing Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, N.Y: landing on La Guardia Airport N.Y. A great thrilling experience.
Splendid job!! Righto!! Crisp clear images. Two years ago I fly from NYC down the east coast to Florida flew over and saw what you showed only in reverse. It was a wondrous flight as it became night. I saw many planes flying over/past us. My cell battery was dead so I couldn't record it. My face was glued to the action. Thank you for this video. Safe travels.
Like someone sitting on the toilet wondering if the boss is going to fire him tomorrow. You can actually think of anything pretty random at this point.
I've always wanted to visit your beautiful country,as I have Aussie relatives in Sydney, but too old now! I hope we USAers treated you well- met a few folks from NZ-so friendly!🤗👌👍
@@boblebovidge7049 I regret not making it to New York but when my wife and I visited the USA in 2013, we went to LA, New Orleans, Orlando, Seattle, San Francisco, back to LA and then to American Samoa and Hawaii on the way home. Loved every second of it. Every American we met was friendly and helpful. Just superb 😎👍❤
It will be a looooooong time before it returns to anything like it was. The governor and mayor have devastated the place with the draconian mandates. Almost 40% of the restaurants are gone and God only knows when the lights of Broadway will be lit again. It's surrealistically unsettling to walk through Times Square. Vids of just two years ago seem like that of a lost civilization. How bad are things? Even the hallowed Met Museum, one of the greatest in the world, had to sell some of its collection to make ends meet.
Gostei muito do seu vídeo. Sou do Brasil, ainda não fui a New York, e fiquei surpreso com a vista aérea da ilha de Manhattan e também da gigantesca área plana do terreno a perder de vista. Obrigado por compartilhar. Tchau.
Yes, that's the standard approach from the south because JFK is severel miles to the east/south east from that base turn. I've been on the same approach dozens of times and it's a thrill every time.
