Another great video. My wife and I flew into Mena a few years ago on a flight back from Gastons on the river. That area is about as pretty as it gets. And that Mena airport has some interesting history.

Great video. I took a 172 from KESN to Mena for the paint job as well and picked one with a fresh paint. .One of the favorite flight I ever did. Total hours logged on round trip was 21.2 hours

I've never flown into Mena but I did ride the Telamina Scenic Road from Oklahoma into Arkansas where it stops at Mena. The countryside there is beautiful.

being a "student pilot" and discovering my way around what occurs as an enormous amount of new things to learn and manage, I have become way more accustomed to a completely new "realm" of communication which is "ATC/Airspace communications" as a result of watching (and listening to) your videos. Given your consummate example of these communications and the easily discernible "niner niner one" I have advanced my awareness and ability to follow and respond (here in my living room) to the radio communications in real time (or at least in "video time," hahahaha) and have become much more comfortable at the idea of radio communications. ....So, thank you for that.

I love watching your videos they motivate me to keep going for my dream to become a commercial pilot i will hopefully start pilot school but it´s expensive so i might just get a PPL certificate before i go for the commercial pilot and get my type rating.

I am also present to the degree to which you have incorporated the procedures & protocols, and your knowledge into "your" procedures. Your example is one of, what appears to me to be, complete preparation. Thank you for this example. I can see that if I follow your example I will be able to easily reduce the actual amount of "in flight" hours with a CFI to the minimum required, and will be able to demonstrate the abilities and awareness of being PIC (Pilot in Command) much sooner than the "normal" or "average." This example will surely produce better and more responsible airmen. Thank you.

On your way back to San Marcos stop in Idabel, Oklahoma nice little airport a short little jaunt from Mena to refuel. The fuel is crazy cheap.

I can't be 100% sure based on the lighting, but I think they were Canadian Geese actually. You sure don't wanna hit one of them - much bigger than ducks!

MrAviation101 Haha - ok fair enough :) I'm an animal guy - I can spot a snake dash across a trail when I'm hiking, or a bass darting by my lure when I am fishing, and instantly identify the species at a glance. But yeah - the profile and size of those birds were pretty goosey :)

+Hunter Benbow Ducks have much shorter necks. These were certainly geese. Possibly of the kind which hit Sullenberger's A320.

I was a airplane salesman in the late 60s and early 70s I cant tell you how many planes I brought to Mena for a paint, and a company in Tulsa would come and get the run out engine and over haul while the airplane was getting painted then bring the new engine back mount it on the plane and bring it to Tulsa for finishing. I would pick up brand new looking airplane in Tulsa and fly it back to Chicago Midway. Always did great work if its the same people. keep up the good work nice film.

+BigOldF150 yup! They do PPL Inst. Multi engine commercial and do CFI CFIi and MEI and possibly commercial instructor. And we get a 500 hour certificate when we graduate

Hi JoshI love all your videos, I think I've watched all of them a several times haha I like your descriptive communication skills, something a lot of people do not have! That being said, my brother has had his PPL for 10+ yrs and have flown with him a lot and I feel really confident flying his plane with him in the left seat, I have always had a passion for flying but never had the time or available funds to pursue my PPL till about a 2 years ago, I live in the Ft Worth Tx, do you know of any dependable CFI's in this areathat you could recommend me to?

You should land at Arlington municipal airport near DFW, but thats the issue, DFW!!!! In a little Cessna. Be careful of traffic.

You won't be disappointed, the paint shop at Mena painted my flight school's C172M back in May. My CFI flew her down from Indiana (HNB). when you say "a left downwind" do you mean at a 45 deg on the downwind of left traffic?

Not sure I understand your question. Downwind is parallel to the runway, but in the opposite direction. "Left downwind" just means you're joining the downwind leg of the pattern for left traffic. Hope that helps, sorry if I misunderstood.

That was me. Coming home from Dallas. I wasn't rolling cameras but I had my fave buried in an approach plate and say a flash in the cockpit, I looked up just in time to see a green laser.
