@@MamaLeine you definitely need to make 3X the rent because you should ALWAYS have at least 6 months saved in the bank in case of emergency and loss or decrease in income!

Landlord here…may my living as FT landlord owning 23 properties. If a Landlord is charging 3x monthly rent as security deposit it really means your rental and credit history is so bad that it’s not worth renting to you. What we will now see is denied applications…I don’t wanna rent to anyone who has rental history so bad that 3x monthly rent is necessary.

Yeah 2-3x used to make sense (I think) when rent was $400-$800. But now rent is $1,000-$2,300 for 1 bedroom apartments 😳 depending on where you live.

OK! No utilities, needs upgrades and repairs and in the worst neighborhoods but charging $1,200-2,200 for a 1 bedroom. 💯

I didnt even know they were charging people 3times rent for deposits!! Omgosh, it needs to be them not asking for 3 times the rent AT ALL. Not just towards the deposit.

If anyone needs to spend more that 1/3 of what they make on rent or MORTGAGE, they are renting/buying a place more expensive than what can afford.

If ppl were afforded low- income housing that was actually suitable to live in, I'm inclined to believe that they would apply. Oh, let's not forget that you basically have to have $0 to very low income to even be considered.The ONLY option is to apply for these obnoxiously overpriced dwellings. Any suggestions Ms. Landlord?

I don't even live in Cali, but rent has been going up everywhere. They just raised my grandmom's rent up $103 extra dollars. She is looking to move before September because after her rent is paid, that only leaves her with a little bit of money and she has food and other bills that she has to pay. I'm hoping she can move back in with her daughter even though she says she don't wanna live with anyone, but the prices of living is just getting sadder by the day.

3 times the rent 4 a security deposit is insane. I can't imagine charging a tenant more than 1 month's rent. What I will b doing next time around is ensuring my tenants make 3-4xs the monthly rent. 1 of my tenants is late every month. The rent is not paid n full until the end of the month with no excuse. They don't respond to the property managers phone calls or emails when they are post 7days late. They r given a notice of possible eviction after 10 days late, & still do not respond. I will not b renewing their lease as they won't b able 2 afford the rent increase, which will come with all new appliances.

I applied for a apartment that was 1459 for rent (the cheapest ive seen in my area in A LONGGGGG TIME) i make about 2200 a month and they said i didn’t qualify because i needed to make 2x the amount which was 3000!!!!! I found a way around and got the place but it was ridiculous! This definitely needs to stop

Watch how they come up with different fees to make up for the money they think they’re losing out on. Paladino properties in Omaha, Nebraska was a slum lord and preyed on desperate people who needed a place to stay and kept the security deposit they were supposed to give back. Paladino, the owner, died a year later. People reap what they sow.

Yeah I’m NYC they capped it at 1 month back in 2019 but most landlords are requiring a tenant make between 30x and 40x the monthly rent a year in income. But some landlords will do a case by case

I remember back in the day you could live in the rental resident for as long as you keep paying the rent. There was no contract renewal !

Wondering where this was. Rent prices rise with inflation so as a Landlord I’m sending a new lease annually with an increase. Also, to get for financing for new properties you have to show current leases for currently owned properties to show your rentals are rented at market rates

​@paulacurrie2441 This was when I rented in 1983 to 1999. Definitely not recently. The last place we rented was a little more than 3 years ago. Now, there were lease renewals, and there were rent increases. But we didn't mind because it was a beautiful complex and safe. There were amenities like a gym, pool, tennis, and basketball courts. We also had to have 2 months' rent and a pet deposit. We own a home now. But if we were to rent again and decided not to purchase land, I would go back to that same apartment complex!

In Massachusetts they charge First, last month and a security deposit to move in and then 30 days later pay rent again So yeah thankful for this but now we need the rent to match real life minimum wages

I’m a private landlord and when you rent and the damages are more than the deposit and you have to pay a lawyer and court fees for evictions then you would have a different opinion! People usually rent because they can’t afford a home or either their credit is poor! I charge extra especially if they have been evicted or have a bad landlord reference! 😊

I’m a full time private landlord. If you’ve been evicted or have a bad landlord reference you are likely NOT even getting into my property. We base deposit on rental history. If I’ve ever had to tell a prospect 3x deposit, I generally want them to walk away and get the heck out of my face.

That's not true. I moved from a house to a nice apartment. I live by myself. It's easier. I don't have to take trash out. It's included. I don't have to worry about landscaping either. It's nicer where I live. Resort style pool and 24-hour gym. Lake, volleyball, and pet area. Walking trails. I pay for low maintenance on my part.

@@queenie_the_virgo The government has a program called Section 8 for low income families! Landlords are paid market value for their homes to rent and guarantees monthly rent every 1st of the month automatically! The landlord agrees to accept the bad credit, evictions, number of household members and the possibility of them destroying their homes, having multiple repairs requests, possible illegal activities and allowing occupants to illegally reside in the home! Section 8 vouchers have caused property taxes and rental expenses to increase!

Being a landlord myself, you won't believe how many renters that will get in your property and not pay rent.If the landlord has a mortgage on the property then the landlord is paying for a tenant to stay in their property.

I can see both sides' points on this subject; both landlords and renters should be responsible for their share of the agreement (contract). Unfortunately, we do have irresponsible landlords and tenants who make it difficult for law abiding landlords /or tenants to find a suitable rental property to rent out or rent to.

I wish I had collected 3 month's rent from my previous tenants. I rented two different properties to a set of cousins and it was hell. At the end of the tenancy, cousin A stole my stainless steel refrigerator and replaced it with a black, non working model. Cousin B owed 2 months' rent and tore the house up. They switched out a washing machine, broke a window, painted over outlets, broke the microwave and dishwasher, stole the video doorbell and more. I found even found their highway signs when clearing the storeroom from them begging for money.

This is a problem. These tenants wants to live through there deposit and leaving the home f$&ked up. My sink is cracked and they left me with roaches 🪳 due to hoarding. It should be 1st, security, and last

0:29 is where I hit like and subscribe. You get it. On top of overcharging for run down homes they want you to make 3x the income. So for a 3 bedroom house that rents at $2500, they expect a person to make $7500 a month. Like what?!? Plus they want a 630 credit score or better. 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm laughing to keep from crying. It's a crazy time out here for people looking to rent.

It is price gauging but at the same time I’ve seen neighbors tear ppl brand new properties up and the landlord is stuck. So good renters suffer bc of others ppl bs. I do see a difference in the caliber of renters when asking 3-4x the rent

They shoved ppl in the streets to create homelessness in all major cities and if you didn't have a 720 credit score and make 3 times the rent they would toss your rental application. Create homelessness and make mom and pop landlords sell their properties to corporations
