Mt Vernon is an upscale Lilly white community. I don't know how they found 2 black people to even be in the shot for the news reports. I have lived here most of my life. This has always been a white gay and Bohemian neighborhood. The Art students have always shoplifted at Eddy's, The guy who pulled a knife on him was a homeless white guy. Poor whites tend to be our criminals. They used to prostitute on read street when the gays were here, but now with the gays gone and living respectable lives in the suburbs that income stream has dried up. The only time you see black people here is when the gay bar that caters to black gays is open at night. It's one of the few viable businesses left in the neighborhood. I doubt seriously any of them have ever been inside Eddy's. Cookies cost $9.00 there. We do have a few well-off blacks living in the area but they tend to keep to themselves. Blacks are not the issue here. The issue is that when most of the gays left no one came to replace them. There just is no business here anymore. That is why he is closing the neighborhood is half empty. Blacks won't live here because of its association with being gay. Most of the businesses here are closing because the population of the neighborhood is so small they can't support much business anymore. The Blacks have several full-service supermarkets in their neighborhood two miles away. It's telling that you thought blacks were the problem though.

What you mean to say is Democrat run city government at work. Baltimore is a cancer in Maryland these days that is metastasizing into surrounding areas as you can see by this report. Maybe 10% of the city is safe during the day and all of it is dangerous at night. I lived there for 15 years before having kids and moving 45 minutes away to Montgomery County. I went to college at University of Maryland Baltimore County. The area i lived in was like 6-7 blocks from the inner harbor. It was awesome back then. Great atmosphere, lots of family restaurants and shops, vibrant night life. You felt safe walking home from a bar or taking your date home after dinner. You wouldn't walk through my old neighborhood for anything at this point. It's gone. All the family run businesses are gone, many of the buildings are empty because nobody will live there and the walls are covered in graffiti. It's beyond a shame, its shameful. It's shameful what the elected leaders of Baltimore have allowed to happen to the city. Nobody wants to live there. Nobody wants to work there. Nobody wants to invest there. Nobody wants to teach there. Nobody wants anything to do with Baltimore and for good reason. Recently it's been young kids, like 12-15 years old, running the streets at night committing violent crimes. So much so that the Mayor reinstituted a curfew for minors. The kids ended up attacking and trying to set the curfew monitoring vans on fire. With people inside them. Baltimore is effectively a dead zone in Maryland and its spreading. Or a war zone maybe is a better description. Take your pick.
