@@HeyitsJX the person in front of him in third place (Lewis Hamilton) had been involved in an incident earlier in the race, and was given a five second penalty (meaning five seconds would be added to his overall time at the end of the race). Meaning if Lando got within five seconds of him, he would likely be given 3rd when the penalty was applied at the end of the race. Which is why they're not certain until it gets confirmed.

@@Nigoliz It look like the engineer was giving him quick bursts of information at precise moments on the track, where Lando "Calrissian" could absorb the info without disturbing his concentration, excellent communication skills from engineer to driver, unlike some others I've seen, yea you don't want to try and have a conversation while traveling 100 mph arounds corners. It was very nice to see them on the track, and to put on an entertaing show. Congratulation to Lando and the McLaren team hope to see more of them at the sharp end, and I think this year, Bottas is going to show us that Lewis has some weakness in his driving skills.

I mean... in lieu of all the press conferences and interviews that would normally take place in the paddock were it not for social distancing, im kinda glad they are putting so much stuff up. This race was also a big deal... totally unprecedented. I'll definitely remember it for a long time.

Call me old fashioned, but I much preferred the old times (and the lower classes still) where the team do their job setting the car up, and the driver decides how to drive - when to save the tyres, fuel and engine and when to go balls to the wall. The only interaction while the car is on the track should, for me, be via the pit board. It's better still when all the drivers have basically the same car under them, so it really is a driving competition. F1 has become too focused on pit crew against pit crew, team against team, with the drivers ultimately being graded more on which one lands a testing job, then a second seat with one of the big players, than on raw ability. Don't get me wrong, it's still entertaining and I can still go and see 'my' version of motor racing most weekends (most years) - so it's only right that those who prefer the modern way should be able to see theirs too - but for me when the pit crew 'drive' the car, based on telemetry sent to them (and back to team HQ half way around the world by satellite link) by the car, it's a different sport altogether. It's almost R/C racing, with the driver as an extremely brave (and skilled) processor. Having said all that, I did enjoy hearing the entire interaction for such a crucial couple of laps, rather than just selected highlights - if they must :-)

@@otterspocket2826 I have to agree on that, it was somewhat of a mistake that they lifted radio restrictions since 2015 for radio instructions as it wouldve been more interesting when drivers are the one making all the changes and adjustments alone rather than the engineers calling the shots

@@otterspocket2826 old times like what 60s or 70s? Even 30-35 years ago they had amazing electronics, radio comms, and active telemetry. Remember the active suspension of the Williams FW14B? That was in 1992, 28 years ago. Those cars had almost sci-fi like electronics and engineering in them. But you can go further back and just take a look at some 70s cars like Tyrell, Brabham, Lotus. So stop this fake nostalgia bullshit. Don't pretend that everything was "more honest" back then, and only the driver and the road was there. F1 always was about tech and engineering, not some bullshit Hollywood heroic tale about the pilots...

My 'pit crew' used to carry practically all of his tools around the paddock in a Tesco's carrier bag (two actually, one inside the other), and if the scrutineers had found a cb radio that I'd been using to tell him that I was about to pit, why I was about to pit, and what spanners he should get out of the bag in anticipation, I'd have been disqualified. Driving the car was MY job, keeping it on the track and (hopefully) competitive, using the contents of his carrier bag, was his.

F1 back then was no better than today, regarding the importance of engineering, radio communication, team orders etc. Telemetry is in the F1 since mid 70s ffs. Two way telemetry from late 80s. What are you even talking about? Put away the nostalgy and look back objectovely on F1. It was always about techonogical advance.

the overtake button. is propably the mix3 fuel. they hold some fuel at the end. and use it in the correct way, and when need it to. was i awesome job from garage and driver as well.

@@EverSnaxolotl i think it's more than just tell him to press the button, the whole race the engineer was helping lando to control the battery charge and things like how or when to use the high performance engine setup, overtake options, etc. We saw 2 laps, i watched the whole race of lando with team radio on F1 TV and the work it's really elaborated. It's all about race management, not only driving.

There was a yellow flag that Hamilton had to lift for and it had cleared with perfect timing when Lando got there. That's how the 2 seconds were mostly made up. The fastest lap of course helped.
