There were pleasant conditions down at Honeycombs Beach, not much wind and a chance of a colourful sunset, a great opportunity for some landscape photography.

Honeycombs Beach is located on the coast between Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturist. I've been to the beach several times before, but it has always been windy. So with favourable conditions, this was the perfect opportunity to explore the south end of the beach.
Once I was through the first crop of rocks, the beach opened out to a quiet bay with a few large boulders half-buried in the sand. I was struggling to find a composition. With less than 20 minutes before sunset, I decided to climb up the scabble of rocks to see if I could find a position looking over the bay. Facing north, I was hoping the colour from the setting sun would be caught by the clouds and create a background that would complement the scene. All I needed now was for the light to do its thing!

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out this video. Let me know if you liked the new before and after reveal for the images, something I'm just trying out! 😀

Yep, nice reveal and some nice editing too. Particularly like the light highlight in the left of the shot at 11:51 .... would have been the perfect spot for the sun to strike had there been a gap in the clouds. A lot of lines leading your eye in to that point and feels very natural and pleasing. :)

Andrew , great to see a fellow West Australian getting great reviews. Really like the new raw plus final image arrangement. I believe it emphasises your message of the 2 strong elements of photography. Composition and post editing to bring out the full potential of an image. Keep up the great work and I love the fact that you share the locations you are shooting. It inspires us to get out and find these locations.you are a very good educator. Keep it up.

Good to see you back on the beach Andrew. I have experienced that phenomena of being disappointed at the end of a shoot only to find I quite like the images a week later. Falling short of expectations seems to have an overly critical effect immediately afterwards but once that has faded you can look at the images with less of a raw emotional connection. Your edits certainly bring them to life; skillfully done! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Andrew, Yes, the RAW/processed segments are a wonderful addition to your VLOG, please keep them coming. Also, you are really making that Z7 "sing". I am happy to see your most beautifully hand/computer crafted images; they bring hope for me that the Z7 I bought can be used to create images I'll like. I would even go so far as to say your images are what the engineers had in mind when they designed the camera. Keep up the good work. Bob.

Good to see you out and about Andrew. Yes! I do like the before/after transitions. Nicely done. I've also been doing a lot of exploring of new locations in anticipation of Autumn here in New York. I think you should coin the "fanatical on the thirds" phrase! Good to "see" you seaside again. Be well.

I loved the video Andrew. It clearly showed that landscape photographers don't get fantastic light every time they go out. Frequently they have to work with what nature presents. I like the images that you took and especially the editing which I feel brought out the mood much better. I also love the aspect ratio you used but then I love panoramic formats. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to your next video.

Hey John, it's great to read your comment, thanks for sharing. If we had great light and weather every time we went out, landscape photography would be too easier and everyone would be doing it! 😀 You are right, working with the conditions you have is such an important part of landscape photography. We can't shoot a spectacular sunset if there isn't a sunset to shoot. Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your thoughts. 👍

I liked that Andrew, thanks. I thought the before and after dissolve for the whole image was fine and I liked the demo of the enhancements in closeup too. Roughly where is the beach? I couldn’t find it on Google Maps and we leave our WA maps in Kingsley.
@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 3 года назад
Cheers Brian, glad you enjoyed the reveal, I hope to continue sharing this aspect of the image in the future, at least for some of the images. The beach is very easy to access. If you search Honeycombs Carpark, Wilyabrup, it should come up in Google, but basically you drive down Caves Rd from Dunsborough and turn right down Moses Rd. When you get to the T-junction you turn left to get to the carpark. 😀
@BrianHorsey

@@Andrew_marr Thanks Andrew. You'd have thought Google would be clever enough to connect a 'Honeycombs Beach WA' search with Honeycombs Carpark! Now we have to hope we'll be able to get back to WA in the not too distant future.

Hey Andrew, thoroughly enjoyed this video, really well done. I think it took me back to some of your earlier work which really resonated with me. I do think that first image is spectacular and it's so easy to dismiss a shot based on the rear screen while still on location. You've definitely brought some magic to it in post. Good stuff mate.

Nightscape Images thanks Richard, I think my disappointment stemmed from the fact that I didn’t get the light I was hoping for, so felt the colour and magic just wasn’t there. You’re right, the image is so hard to judge just by looking at the back of that camera. Luckily I was able to bring a little life into the image in post. Hope you are doing well over there and are keeping safe in semi-lockdown.

Hi Andrew. Do you experience any banding when editing your Z7 files?
@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 3 года назад
I've not experienced any banding from either the Z7 or the D850 (which use the same sensor). Usually banding is more to do with the editing software, I know Lightroom can something have banding but that's only in the rendering of the version in the software. The banding doesn't appear in the final image once exported.
