Landscape timber flower garden

I build a landscape timber garden. We have a drainage problem around the front of our house. We came up with this to not only put flowers in, but raise the ground level to help drain the water around our house and down the hill. Now I need to raise the grade in front of the gardens to encourage water flow away from the house.

Sugars a little high, my friend. Mine used to be too, so....shit happens. You might try cinnamon capsules. I take 3 @ 500 mg after a meal, keeps me down to the high 90's. Well, and I try to limit my intake of sugars---this includes carbs, fruit and dairy. The fructose in the fruit and the lactose in milk are both sugars. Anything "--ose" is sugar. I won't say cinnamon is a cure, but it does help me maintain a level I can live with. The yard is lookin' BEAUTIMOUS!

I’ve never had a problem with my sugar in my life until I got on this synthroid. Now, it goes up over 200. I’m gonna try tailoring my diet first.
@AnnBearForFreedom

@@bctruck Damn synthetic hormones. Theyre known for screwing with hormonally-regulated systems, like sugar metabolism. Thats a good first step---attack the cupboard and the fridge/freezer, toss out anything with sugars or carbs. I'm so sorry for the hassle/heartache.

I hate being negative but landscape timbers placed directly on the dirt will only last about 4 years and will rot unless you put something under them to get them off the ground. I know from experience. It's more expensive but retaining wall bricks last forever.

You're doing a great job, as usual! A couple of hard-learned tips: Spray the wood that comes in contact with the ground to keep termites from finding a 'happy place' to live....and respray every year or so as needed. Then - get yourself a really good 'picture book' on plants and flowers - especially PERENNIAL PLANTS - that grow well in your area. Perennials come in plans that love sun, part sun,, and shade. Annual plants grow and flower quickly, but you have to plan the ________ things again each year. If you choose perennials by height, spread, color, and time of the year that they flower, you can have color all year long - and they come back, bigger and better, every year! Don't forget the beautiful colored leaf plants like 'corals bells - heuchera' - that come in all shades of green yellow, rust, red and hot pink. Their flowers are minimal, but the plants look great all year. You're lucky, since in the South, many things that northern gardeners would call 'annual' (since it gets too cold for them to over-winter) - act more like 'perennials' - if they can take the coldest temps that your winters will usually get to. Perennials are a bit more costly, for well worth it. There is a saying about perennials: "The first year they 'sleep', the next year they 'creep', and the third year they 'LEAP'!" That's when they really take off and start growing like crazy! PM me for some book titles that would be helpful for you. Plant for years to come - then sit back and sit your coffee and enjoy the beauty without the backache! ;D
@lindag7183
@lindag7183 5 лет назад
Uggghh! Just checked Amazon - THOUSANDS of books on perennials there! Best bet: Go to the best book store near by, and see what they have -- look especially for 'encyclopedia types' showing the plant closeup, in full growth, and a description. If you find an expensive one you like, you can probably order it 'used' on Amazon's used book sellers at a good price - or search for it on www.bookfinder.com for great prices on used books (that are usually almost like new). Then check out the biggest garden and nursery in the area and ask for suggestions on perennials - they'll probably have books too. Good luck! ;D

Looking good on that landscaping BC. Ha! I heard your wife's comment about finishing. My wife, the foreman, comes out of the house every once in a while to make sure I'm within specs then back inside. I bought her a hedge trimmer to get her out there with me. She likes her hedges just so. Bad back is no joke. Thankfully the kids are getting old enough that they can help out.

Loving the garden beds BC, I love listening to your wife, she is so funny. I could find myself sitting on that deck solving the worlds problems, one problem at a time lol. Not sure if your aware that using alcohol swabs before taking your glucose reading can actually increase the reading, giving you a false result. Try washing your finger/hand under warm running water, no soaps or detergents as this can also muck up your reading. dry finger well with a tissue or paper towel, see how it goes.

Flower beds looking good. Wish I still had the energy it takes to do that kind of work. Enjoy being tired, because you worked for it, while you can! A note of caution. Be careful with fill around the base of that big tree. It can cause rot to set in. Fill, too deep, will kill the feeder roots that live near the surface. And, the flowers planted there will require more watering because that tree is going to drink it's share of what's given to them. Hope you get all this stuff associated with the thyroid meds straightened out (adjusted) soon. My better half was on a roller coaster for a while because certain heart meds created all sorts of thyroid problems. God Bless. Stay Cool! Stay SAFE, my friend.
