Another successful repair. You're order of operations really led you to suss out the issue. I wouldn't have been so keen to reach into that nest with bare hands. Nevertheless, an easy undertaking. Well done, Stuart.
Hi Stuart I very much enjoy your videos I just watched your old video two years ago how to fix a black star ht20 with no output I tried to leave a thumbs up but every time I clicked on it it RU-vid changed it to a thumbs down , keep up the good work from the USA .
"There's a Rat in me Laney and I dono what to do".. Well done for reattaching wires to the cone Stuart.. Tricky, but very effective. One god think, the mice would have eaten all the spiders 😅..
He said mice ! Remember the difference.... A cat can kill a mouse ,a rat can kill a cat . I have heard of people getting a cat to keep rats away only to end up with a dead cat. So if there is a rat in your kitchen get a Jack Russell terrier. The natural preditor of rats. In fact in Ireland anyone with a Jack Russell will normally be invited to join the sport of Rat hunting ! Not for the sqweemish because of how the dog kills the rat. But I won't torment you with that .
My bandmate recently had some mice visiting the inside of her Hammond organ. Thankfully they didn't chew any wires. We sort of chased one away and then put some cotton soaked in peppermint oil inside, which they apparently can't stand. That did the trick and the last one left and then we were able to clean it out and play on.
Hi Stuart. Love your veg they are a great help. I was wondering if you have any diagrams on the tube tester rig that you have built. I understand how to test and match power tubes but I don’t know about the pre amp tube testing portion of your test rig that you have built from a power supply you found in the trash/curb of your university. Any diagrams or books/videos you could point out n my direction would be helpful. PS how do I donate to your cause?
Hi. My tube tester is very basic, I just use it really to match power tubes. It doesn;t do preamp tubes. For that I use an Orange Tester (no oonger made and hard to get hold of). On my tester I'm just measuring the current thriugh a 1 ohm resistor in the cathode. I rad that with a multimeter reading mV. so 50MV would be 50mA of tube current. I then set the anode voltage and bias voltage to present values. It's all a bit quick and dirty.
Cool Beans. The amp had a line/instrument input as well. I wonder if the guitar would have performed better through that? It's tough to tell today. Some Line Inputs would never accept a guitar level signal but nowadays they have impedance matching circuits to adapt to whatever you plug-into it. Even so it won't harm the guitar or the amp by plugging into the line input-you just might not get the best results. It's horrendous what you guitar amp technicians have to muck through. Really appreciated the mouse dropping close up shot. LOL!! Thanks as always Mr. Stuart.
Always an education watching you work Stuart, that control panel is very much from a certain time and era, I've never had an opportunity to play one of these types of amps. A small enquiry if it's alright to ask?. My old Vox AC10 makes a distinct "pop" when I hit the vibrato egg pedal and it thumps in certain settings but fine in others. Is this an issue that will lead to more problems if not immediately sorted out?. Thanks mate, I always enjoy your content.
@stuartukguitarampguy5830 That's a relief, it's strange how it has the thumping in certain settings?. Trying to keep on top of all these old valve amps is getting to be a bit of a chore and an expensive one at that!. Thanks for your help Stuart, always appreciated.
Loving the channel. Quick question. I have a cloud amp in for repair. Both output transistors have blown, but they are both NPN. All the amps i have repaired before have a npn and a pnp on the output for push pull. It has a 35 0 35v power transformer. Confused.
All very odd. Hard to believe they get 150W out of a +/- 35V supply. The only thing I can think of is that it's somehow a Class A amp and they're using the tranistors in parallel. You should be able to tell that from the connections/Tracks. If both colectors are connected together, that might indicate class A. Ah well. I'd check the driver transistors and just shotgun change any faulty ones.
Well, glad you didn’t reach in there and pull out a rat carcass when cleaning it out. Would like the know the real story from the owner instead of it just not working all of a sudden one day.
Don't put bare hands where mice have been mousing ! Transference Transference ! Eeee uuuuugh ! vacuum out and disinfect would be de rigeur .Above all do not show mouse droppings on your bare hands . Please !
