Laney was never on my radar, but I looked at the specs of this amp, checked out a few videos with headphones, but this demo has sold me. There have been times when American companies have done British tones better, and times when British companies absolutely nailed American tones and added a little something extra. This amp is of the latter. It's like a Fender amp with Vox controls and tone shaping, and superb tone the whole way through. This amp reacts in the way I'd expect a true vintage Deluxe Reverb to respond. Amazing.

Would the L20 be too much for a house playing or the L5 perhaps more suited for that?

Not sure if this is too late for you, i got both 5 n 20 watts. 5 watts is already very loud for my 110 square meter apartment with rooms door opened. At volume about 11 o'clock, the sound covered the entired house, loudly i would says.

@@heavymetal11 I appreciate the reply. I got the 5 watt and it is perfect at the 0.5 setting for home playing. I love this amp. Has the perfect clean/crunch Chanel. For more distortion I use the Laney Ti boost and it’s heaven

@@Dito.Gancinidoes your LH5 Studio handle modulation effects well? I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on either the 5 or the 20. I love the recording hardware on the back panel of the 5. But I’m worried about the head room for heavy ambient pedals.

@@anthonyfesta7010 I am extremely satisfied with the Studio 5 . Great cleans for pedals of any kind and the dirty channel gets you super crunchy tones. Get you the Tommy Iommy TI boost and you’ll have some great Black Sabbath tones. While this is only a 5 watt amp it is extremely loud. I usually have it at 0.5 watt

@Woden of the Angles It’s not just you. Their Lionheart series does break up early, however that is by design. If you need lots of very clean headroom at high volume levels, you’ll have to look at some of their other amps that are higher wattage and not Class A.

James Cuddy i would say a lot. It’s my only tube amp so I don’t have anything to compare it with, but this amp is loud! On volume 3 people will hear you anywhere in the house. At full volume, your neighbors will hear you lol. The thing about this amp is that you have to play loud to get good tone. It’s not the most ideal for a practice amp

I suppose you've had this amp for a long time now, so can you tell if this amp is really dark sounding, leck of brightness ? Some people tend to say you can't open its sound. What's your opinion?

Since 2021 all Laney production has been moved back to the U.K.

@@daveo1708at the time of the first comment they were made in China. Old Laney's were made in England, new Laney's are made in England. There's a time in between when they were not.

These days 5 watts is load enough for gigging! But yes you'll definitely be competing with a drummer easily with this.

Sadly, this sounded so much better in the room, and whoever recorded it, missed all the sparkle. Muted and Veiled with all the life sucked out. Please re-do this! Your playing and what it could sound like deserve better!
