Has anyone noticed all other pianists make weird faces and sweat but this guy is just smiling through one of the hardest songs? But around the end he starts putting all his strength.
@@darkphoenix7123 there are harder pieces, la campanella is not one of the hardest, piano conecerto 3 of rachmainoff is one of the hardest, like it is etude 6 paganini
Lang Lang's style of playing doesn't always work on all pieces, but it works particularly well with Liszt, as Liszt was quite the drama performance piano artist himself. Good interpretation!
I have heard him play everything from Bach to Rachmaninov, dramatic concertos to meditative sonatas. All brilliantly played. He is truly one of the best pianist ever lived.
As a pianist myself, I cannot stress enough how hard this piece is. Some techniques in it are just unbelievably difficult, and the way Lang Lang manages to play them beautifully with such ease absolutely boggles my mind.
Totally agree, I’m easily early advanced into advanced , 15 years experience, got the music for it, spend a few days on it and just could not get past some of the techniques.. it made me realise how good Liszt was and appreciate him more.. to be able to write and play something like that lol Lang Lang and others who can play this have really studied their shit
It's bananas the way he gracefully comes off of some notes, and how casually he leans into certain notes as if he's waltzing with the piano. He's mastered this piece. His body language suggests he's beyond comfortable playing this piece and that it's second nature to him.
I had no idea how freaking difficult parts of this is. I thought id be able to speed it up after a couple days 🤣 1 week and im still struggling working muscles i didnt know existed.
I'm blown away. I have no words to express how I feel after this performance. I've seen and heard dozens of variations and pianists play this, but this is on whole new level. Bravo ! Sadly, that I found out about Lang Lang only today. Better late than never.
what is so insane about this performance is that the song itself is extremely difficult to learn for many pianists. it can take months and months to play this song through at proper tempo with minimal errors. but then on top of all of that, after all of that time and frustration just getting to that point, you then are tasked with learning to play it like THIS, which is a completely different beast. the true potential of this song cannot be expressed if it is played like a calculator spitting out numbers - even if no mistakes are made. Lang Lang here has not only reached the peak of the mountain, he has taken flight into the sky. bravo sir.

Just look at him! He's always so chill and relaxed no matter what he's playing. He never gets stressed despite the difficulty or the action on the piece. And look at his face. He always has that face like _"I don't really know what I'm doing, but it sounds good."_ never have I seen a more relaxed piano player, and think of that: he's playing liszt!!
Well cuz it's not hard enough for these top pianists. He actually got quite tired after playing reminiscenes don juan, literally sweating a lot even during the piece
So much style and control. He's at ease riding one of the most vicious pieces on the planet. What I loved the most was the sheer brazeness in his technique taming such a beast.

this performance was so awe inspiring that i nearly forgot i had my mouth open three quarters through. seriously impressive piece played very well by Lang Lang. i could not contain my amazement and pure joy from seeing this recording

His hands are moving so fast that even the light reflecting from them can't reach the camera's fast enough for us to see what is happening, creating a blur on the piano.
Franz Liszt was amazing. Lang Lang is the best of a generation and it's difficult even for him. The endurance it takes to play a song like this.... incredible. Love this performance.
If this is how Liszt would have played the piece, he would have wrote it differently. Lang Lang always takes very unnecessary departures and rewrites of the score. Not a fan.
This is why Lang Lang is my favorite pianist. He can take pieces that are essentially just showing off difficult technical skills and make them expressive and beautiful. In my opinion that's more important than being overly concerned with lightening fast tempos and super technical playing, because in the end that's what music is for; to be beautiful and pleasant to listen to.
It seems like he's doing the opposite. He's trying to be even more of a show-off (not a bad thing in this case). but those unnecessary hand and head movements.. eek
@@marshan1226 he's overdoing it, taking away from his performance. It's distracting. Even listening to it with my eyes closed, I would say he would've been better focusing on the piece itself. He got carried away and it shows. Showmanship comes from actually delivering a piece, not by playing it up. There is a difference. I'm not saying he's a clown or he's bad, this is probably one of the top performances of this piece out there, still in 2021, but it's just a little conceited for me, and, for him, probably not as nuanced as he would have liked if he focused less on the crowd and in the music itself.
@@socringe2217 Yes I agree and I call that taste, but taste is also different and should be distinguished from the quality of the performance. I don't think this was Lang Lang's best, I think even he would agree it was a little sloppy -- not in terms of technique, but in terms of musicality.
BRAVO!! Lang Lang Is beyond....way beyond in a class by himself. His finger work is wholly captivating, and his ease of emotional application is the icing on the cake!
He’s not just a piano player he’s a true artist with finesse he’s got bravado in his style and that’s what sets him apart. He’s there to show off his art not to just play.
I honestly think that all he does is play the piece but that he never does anything interesting with it. Comprared to most other pianists on that level he is really boring to watch since it’s all about the technical stuff and nothing about the music. Whenever he plays the piano I just get the feeling that he tries to show off. For example, have you seen his performance of rondo alla turca? Sure, it’s impressive but Also really boring since its all about speed and nothing else

@@jonahlai6204 Well compared to guys like Franz Lizst, Frederic Chopin, Charles Alkan and Amedee Meureax, yep! He's a mortal. Liszt, for instance, could sight read some of Chopin's hardest pieces, WITHOUT EVER HEARING OR PRACTICING THEM BEFORE.
Damn! You can actually see see the keys bouncing (0.25x speed) after he hits them like they're on water.. absolutely insane detail.. Even the camera frame rate couldn't keep up with his hands.. Another thing i love is that the audio is perfectly in sync with the video.. Thanks for this..

4:05 The way he pronounces the first few chords and then gets faster as the piece comes to its closure is absolutely amazing. I’ve never seen someone play the ending of La Campanella like that. Bravo, Lang Lang!
you may hate lang lang, but you can't argue against the fact that his technique is phenomenal and he can play anything at will, at superhuman speeds and accuracy... personally i like him. his performance of rach 3 movement 2 on an UPRIGHT piano in the street was what made me fall in love with that movement...
Good technique? very funny. Maybe if he had good technique, he wouldn't be injured all of the time. For a real example of good technique, look at any video of Yuja Wang playing the piano. i dont think anyone is promoting particularly ill feelings towards him; they are simply making (uneducated) jokes out of his performance behavior and technique
Eric Lee Piano sometimes lang lang plays a bit messy or muddies things down with pedal. he is a great pianist and showman, but sometimes the clarity is just not there. lang lang is not my cup of tea personally.
To understand how difficult this piece is. Watch Lang Lang’s other performances, see how he calmly sways to the music, like it is easy as Ode to Joy. This song, he is constantly having to pay attention and even watch his hands. This man is a fantabulous player, this goes to show ho difficult it really is!
