Welcome to Langdon Hall Country House Hotel! Built in 1902, this charming property is the site of our new makeover project! Today is the day we start the redecoration and design of two rooms within this award-winning luxury boutique hotel and we're bringing you along for the tour! Join me as we step inside the Red Room dining parlour and the breakout gathering area to dream up the grand designs for these special spaces. Decorating during COVID-19 is a bit of a challenge, but we're equipped with a plan and big picture vision. Tune in to see if we're tied to tradition or free to modernize parts of this historic hotel!

Can't wait for this project. My grandparents actually met there. They both worked for Langdon Wilks sister and would be lent to Langdon Hall when Mr Wilks came to town. My grandfather was a groom and my grandmother was a housekeeper.

Oh my god, where have you been? I'm practically in withdrawal here! Do you realize there are people who cannot live without you? Well, okay a slight exaggeration, but seriously how long has it been? We were just at Langdon Hall two weeks for a lovely two-night visit (first time in 15 years). It is a fantastic place to stay, with the most AMAZING food. Cannot wait to see the finished product!

@@SarahRichardsonDsgn Yes. Absolutely I’ll follow along. It’s always interesting to have to work with existing pieces and room constraints. That’s why I’ve always enjoyed your projects so much. You work with what’s there and you make spaces beautiful, unique and comfortable, and most important-functional. Yay, Sarah. We recently bought a 1950’s Florida house with restored terrazzo floors. It’s been remodeled, so we don’t have to restore baths and kitchen, but we’re reworking each room to use some of our old fave darker wood furniture mixed with lighter more current pieces. It’s a fun puzzle that we’re gradually piecing together. Always helpful to consider: “What would Sarah do?” ;-D

I grew up in Preston Cambridge and know the area well. I remember I'd been to the house once when I was in my late teens. It was not in the best of shape back then. In my 20's I remember hearing that the owners were maybe going to sell it. I thought back then about how it would make a beautiful country inn. Then a few years later I heard it had been sold and indeed it was being made into a country inn/hotel. I was living in Toronto by that time and working at a place called Marci Lipman. One day a very nice couple came in and were looking for some art work for their place. As it turned out it was the new owners of Langdon Hall, Mary Beaton and William Bennett. We had a great chat about Langdon Hall and their ongoing project to make it the spectacular place it is today. Our family celebrated my mom's 70th birthday there and a good friend had her wedding there. It's evolved over the years and is truly a beautiful place to escape to. The history of the estate and it's neighboring estate and the area is something I've always found fascinating. I look forward to seeing what Sarah and the team do.

I cannot express how much I adore Langdon Hall! We’ve been guests many times, held family birthday dinners and anniversary celebrations there...it’s absolutely magical. A true step back in time to a more refined way of life. The food is exceptionally wonderful and the service is not to be outdone. After visiting for the first time about 12 years ago and falling head over heels for the beautiful traditional interiors, I designed our home’s millwork and wainscotting to emulate the look of the panels throughout Langdon Hall’s main house. My husband’s Association had booked out the whole place and we were looking forward to hosting his AGM and conference there for a very large group just last week, but Covid happened... if you have the opportunity to go and stay for a night or have a lovely meal you won’t be sorry! You’ll fall in love with it just like we did 😍 Sarah, I look forward to seeing your good taste translate into something beautiful for the revamp of those spaces.

What I like most about this was it seemed like you were asking and hearing the answers to your questions while this was being filmed. I realize a lot of work goes into the prep, but it seemed fresh, not canned or phony. What a beautiful place! Oh, and, killer shoes! 💫💫

I’m so excited to see what colour you pull out of that beautiful rug. The funny thing is is as you were standing on the rug in the bar room I too was looking at it going it needed to move I felt it was in the wrong place and then when you went into the other room with the long table and you mentioned that you wanted to steal it to put it in there I thought yes that’s exactly where it needs to go. I too thought it looked beautiful and had something special about it. The colour I saw was the blue and I thought those white panelled wall Would be awesome in a deep blue or Whatever that blue is in the rug. I didn’t see teal but I do love teal too. I just thought a deeper blue would be more awesome. That’s why you get paid to do your job and I don’t. LOL

Langdon Hall is incredible! So happy you will respect the heritage while giving it an update! That Corinthian capital is fabulous! Love the idea to reuse it in the conservatory! Absolutely glorious! I’m a huge fan of European architectural and decor styles and hope you won’t dive into the contemporary realm too far past Transitional. Often “updating” ends up fighting with the original architecture, but I have complete confidence you’ll balance it beautifully and still keep the traditional charm but with it soon to be refreshed and gorgeous!

A lovely trip down memory lane . When Langdon hall was first opened we did several christmases here with friends and my husband threw my surprise 40th birthday party here . Wonderful atmosphere, thoughtful staff , great food , beautiful country setting . We had quit a blow out . Everyone arrived in time for afternoon tea . Then free time to nap or roam the grounds , then sumptuous dinner , to the chef’s credit, I had a lot of food allergies ( much improved now ) Everyone stayed over night and beautiful brunch the next day . Can’t wait to see Sarah’s approach to this .

I have been a fan of yours since your first episode of your first design show . You have validated so much about how I feel about design . In my early career ( hair styling ) I got to house sit for many of my clients , so I got to experience living in a variety of spaces and developed my ideas from these opportunities. You also have honesty about mistakes and your humour about , how we learn from them . Thank you for your continuing inspiration . Just realized....... that party was 29 years ago this November!
