Langholm straddles the geographical and cultural divide between the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. It can feel forgotten, and times have been hard with the closures of the many textile mills on which the town depended. However, celebrated traditions hold this community together - none more so than the Common Riding held on the last Friday of July every year. Unchanged for centuries, this is a spectacle not to be missed.
This film features highlights of the many elements of the Common Riding as well as an explanation of its history and customs. Also featured is the work of the Langholm Alliance, a community group with bold ambitions to take the town forward into the next decade with real optimism.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who agreed to take part in this film - Jonathan Wheeler
