I really enjoyed this video with all the shops. The last gravestone you all shown had the last name of my brother inlaw McConnell which is where his family is from. As alway I love all the drone footage and DeNiro zoomies. Have a blessed week and take care.
DeNiro was having the time of his life! Bless him :-D Great to be able to trace your family back like that. I've wanted to trace my Scottish side but it's not very easy as we've very little to go on - but I won't give up! Hope the weather is better for your next trip and that Daisy is ok now!
Awesome adventure. Like seeing weather blow in. Maybe getting pelted is not so fun. Some of those vinyl records, what a find! At 20:24 is your Christmas Card..
Wow Charles Millar maybe a relative . My Grandfather was born in Scotland . we have James , Charles , Alexander , Callan hmmzz i will look at the tree of ours. Great video Scotland is truly beautiful.
If you're touring about the area, ask your friend to take you up to Routin Bridge, 8 miles NW-ish from town centre. Lovely spot, nice dog-walking woods to either side. (Park in the proper parking area, and not with the twits in the 'passing place'). There are some lovely places tucked around D&G. Describing how to find them is rather tricky. Langholm and Samye Ling are worth a look too. Really pretty, more mountainous countryside around there. I think it has the reputation of being the wettest place in Britain.
Thanks guys. What a lovely couple. My wife and I are heading down this way in a couple of weeks with our two rescued podencos. Do you find that having the dog hinders you at all or do you still manage to get access into shops and cafes? Im not at all familiar with Dumfries and Galloway, so this has been helpful.... although at times it wasn't always clear exactly where you were. My wife loves the charity shops so we'll be searching those out. Thanks again. By the way, isnt life so much better with a dog? (And a wife😂) 👍
We don’t really go places where dogs aren’t welcome :) We don’t tend to take DeNiro into places just because he’s so awkward and inquisitive.. not everyone lines a greyhound nose in their pockets :))
As usual, you did not disappoint. Awesome drone footage! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Love that silly boy DeNiro 😊 Sorry about Daisy. Hate when a gust of wind unexpectedly catches the door. 🙁
We have had three marvellous holidays in the Dumfries and Galloway area. So unspoilt and unexpected. Travelling back to our cottage one evening came across a huge flock of partridges in the road, thankfully we were not going very fast. Another evening we watched a flock of starlings murmuring.
Poor Daisy!! She is officially a touring van. Hope the top or bottom rail isn't bent. The wind can do much damage. Fix her quick, longer you wait and use, the worst the problem becomes. Can you tell I learned that? 😢 Appreciate the adventure and beautiful scenery. On a better day, return to the graveyard with paper and charcoal. You can lift the details and consider framing. Using hairspray, it can be rolled up and saved. Stay warm 🍂
I would have bought that old newspaper too. It was fun to see the Eno's Fruit Salts ad since I see people dig up those bottles sometimes. Is Old Dan the furthest back you can go because of lost records in Ireland? That's what caused the end of our genealogy. We know that Stephen Carney came to the US around the 1750s, but we can't track his family in Ireland because all the parish records that were kept in Dublin were burned. ☹️
We love how you have all the individual charity shops in the UK. Wish we had something similar. Zooooom DeNiro. lol. So true about discovering the history of places thru the old graveyards. You can learn so much. Have a great week!
The A74M has a lot to answer for the neglect of the southwest - the biggest “bypass” in the U.K. - that and the apparent belief on the part of many non Scots that only the highlands are “really” Scotland. On the other hand, it does mean that this beautiful area is still a very long way from over tourism!
