that's what they told me through email, that it's designed that way because the cuction cup is too big, but if you put it into the bag suction cup first, it fits well..

David Aresti... thx so far i'm happy with the purchase and it seems like the product is well built.. I live out of my van, so i mainly bought it to block the sun to keep the inside temperatures down, especially when i start to travel.. I haven't been out of the Bay Area since i bought it, and the weather has been cool, so i haven't used it since i made this video. the suction cup seems to be very secure. I'm not sure if the actual cups have an issue, or if folks aren't making sure that the cup is flush before locking it. In the video, the first time i tried to lock the cup it failed, but i was more focused on getting the straps and hooks out of the way and didnt make sure that the cup was flush. A heavily waxed surface might also cause the cup to fail (i'm speculating) The directions state to make sure the surface is clean, but the roof of my van was actually fairly dirty when i shot this video. One of the reviewers on Amazon said that the cup dented their roof.. Auto body shops use suction cups to remove dents, so it makes sense that a cup could also cause dents, especially on vehicles that have thinner body panels.. My van's roof seems. very rigid, no flex when pushing into it. If your roof flexes i would assume that it may cause a dent, especially in higher winds. Also, the security strap isn't as hard to cut as they make it sound. Scissors and knives won't cut the wire inside the strap, but lock cutters will, or maybe even sheet metal shears. Instead of the security strap, i would prefer a key lock on the suction cup mechanism. Otherwise i do not consider this product theft proof.

Mike 5 thank you! Here where i leave we suffer from heat. June hasnt come yet and we have 30-34 degrees Celsius. I own a smart car and the interior is red and is fabric. I saw a smart that had also red interior but from the sun now is orange so im worry my car will have an orange interior if i dont do anything about it. Im only gonna need it for my work because thats the only time my car is outside. Im not too worry about the safety cable as in my work is a secure place. What im worry is the wind here.. sometime it gets windy out of nowhere and im not in my work to see the tent how is going because i drive my jobs van and im always out of my work

Hey David, just from my side, I have one also, been using this for a year already, no regrets, very satisfied... left the tent attached for days either raining, windy or sunny I just leave it on top of the car I barely use. As its my spare car a 2008 Toyota Vios. It has gone through a lot and it still is as alive back then up till now. The suction cup is not an issue... make sure the straps are very tight to a point they are pulling the tent down already creating a low profile image... if its too windy, rainy it will not tumble over just very slight light like the one who reviewed this before a snow fall and used it on an accord. But the key there is, if you saw it like that don't remove the straps yet from the mirrors and door, instead re-clamp the suction cup on the roof first, once back secured, remove the straps and voila, close the tent and drive away... hope this helps man...

I mainly "stealth camp", so i don't use the Lanmodo car tent like i thought i would. I've maybe used it 5 times, and it mostly sat in my storage unit for about 2 years, though i would occasionally put it in my van thinking i might use it, but never do.. I pulled it out recently and charged the battery, and i noticed that the canopy material had light shining through in a few spots throughout. I'm not sure why. Before opening it i thought i made sure that none of the straps were snagged, but the canopy didn't want to open.. The motor was struggling as if something was preventing the structure from opening, and then, POP, and whatever was wrong resolved and it opened, but not quit smoothly.. i open and closed it a few times and it didn't work as smoothly as it did when new, though it got better with each time. It also seemed to be hanging lower than normal towards the back.

they told me they designed the bag that way to accomodate the suction cup, but i've put it in suction cup first with no problem.

for concept, a 10 but i guess i'd give it 8.. i got the one that doesn't turn into a tent. That would be cool... but for a car, the security strip can be bypassed.. They should put a lock on the suction cup mechanism instead.. everything appears to be very well buillt, but longevity in harsher conditions over time may be an issue.

Check my longer comment, but for longer term durability i'd give it more of a 6 or 7..

:p yeah, since i have a van i thought about pushing it and swapping mine for a 4.5 meter (only the 3.5 meter was available when i got mine), but if they actually meant for the bag to be open, then i have no complaints about quality or function.

Other than the straps being short this is a decent size.. Originally i wanted a 4.5 meter canopy (this is 3.5 meters, and the 4.5 was not yet available when i bought it), but now i'm not sure that i'd want a 4.5 meter.. In the middle of the day the sun wouldn't be hitting any windows, but early to mid morning, or mid afternoon on that might not be true (depending on season). If you're only concerned about blocking the sunlight look into windshield snow covers. They fully cover the outside of the windshield and can be had for about $15-$20. If you want to block sunlight from the side windows look into a product called Shade Sox. I got a pair for my front windows and they make a huge difference. They are universal fit though and not specifically made for vans. They need to be a little bigger for my van, especially in length, but they're good enough to reduce light while allowing air to ventilate. But they can snag and tear easily, so don't just pull them over the door, take a few extra seconds and be careful..

So your car interior won't be so hot in the summertime.

I live in California and haven't been able to travel like i was planning to. I can't remember the last time i saw snow :p but, i think itvwould handle 3 inches of snow that slowly accumulates.. i think it may fail if that same amount of snow suddenly fell on it... Though they do demonstrate dropping small bricks onto it.

Hey dumbass, this video is about the automatic version, not the manual version. The automatic doesn't have metal fasteners to secure it. This product definitely could be better made, and if you'd read the comments about my updated opinion you would see that i'm both honest in the video and in my comments, i.e. when i talked about the bag being "ripped" in the video, or in the comments when i gave updates about the quality. I have no problem with you complaining about the faults of the product, but for you to say "everything said in this video is pure and absolute crap" is itself pure and absolute crap.

I’d actually take that bet. Depends on what you mean by fall off. That thing may flop around on the top of the car, but it won’t fly off the car onto the highway

It's not meant to be left on while driving :p I'm pretty sure it would tear apart (the frame etc), but the suction cup and motor etc would stick ;)

I think it's not supposed to remain on the roof of the car, if you are on the highway.
