The size is also engraved into the brass connectors at the end of the Lantern Moon needles. Lantern Moon was a separate company, but they were purchased by Knitters Pride recently. All their needles and hooks are still hand crafted by artisans in Vietnam. That is one of the reasons they cost more.
Thank you for the review. I have the heirloom set of Lantern Moon, and I really like them. I find the ebony wood has a great feeling. So most of my knitting now is done either by Lantern Moon needles or Chiaogoo needles as I love both sets (for different reasons).
Hi Anniken, Thank you for this review. I love knitting needles , and I love them to be perfect.( lot’s aren’t ). My favour are fixed circulars. I have tried lantern moon ones and did like them very much, but, my biggest problem is they don’t make a 2.25 m.needle tip. I know some other makes don’t either 🤷♀️. I like my socks to be knitted on 2.25 , nothing else will do , for me. So they are missing out. I realise it’s mostly wooden needles that miss out this size, because the are delicate and do break. I have broken two sets of Lykke 2.25 circular needles. I agree with the colour of the lantern moon needles being difficult on my old eyes. Thank you for your review , I am going to watch it again. 💕
ChiaoGoo now have a swiv 360 cable that is similar to those of lantern moon , I purchased a couple to give them a try, they are thinner than ChiaoGoo S and L red lace cables , but like most of the swivel cables I struggle with that tiny bit of snag at where cable connects
I don't know exactly when, but I think KnitPro bought out Lantern Moon some time last year - I think I saw something about it on Instagram. I ordered a set of tips and a cable a few days to try out because in another RU-vid video I watched (I think Soulful Spinner) the podcasterwas so impressed with them. Generally speaking I do prefer wooden needles, but since trying HiyaHiya for a lace shawl recently I think I may be converted to metal for lace knitting. I'm looking forward to trying out Lantern Moon, but I don't think I'll invest in too many of them at their prices (slightly cheaper from Amazon but still quite pricey) 💜💜💜
Yes the price surprised me as I don't think they're hugely different from KnitPro Symfonie needles. I'm still knitting with them & they're nice but I don't like the price.
Thanks! I was thinking of trying Lantern Moon to see if the tips were pointier than my Symfonie Pro or Lykke copper needles, but I think I'll just get some of the Knitpro swivel cables instead. Interesting that you found yarn snagged on the join between cable & connector on the Lantern Moon interchangeables, I've been noticing something very similar on Knit Pro cables recently
I have not tried them and now i won’t bother 😂 I started with a set of symphonie but the cables drove me potty and I swapped to chiagoo. I tried zing fixed but the yarn snagged. I love addi sock wonder and addi lace fixed circulars - very flexible cable, pointy. I use them now for hats, socks, mitts as I hate magic loop and they come in all cable lengths. I recently tried knitpro royale for a wood needle and I like those too, and now knitpro do the mindful cables it solved the stiff cable issue. Da da! Thankyou for your review.
I’m so glad I didn’t buy these before Christmas then 🙌🏼 I’m not really a fan of interchangeable needles, my favorites are the addie novel (the squared lace needles), I’ve never lost stitches and they’re pointy enough that I can use them for any project 👍🏻
My favorites are Chiaogoo Red Lace fixed. I don’t care for interchangeables because I don’t use needles above US 6 (4.0 mm) and the joins always bug me, some brands more than other. Another type of needle that I surprisingly like are the Prym Ergonomic fixed circular. The points look like little drumsticks. They never split the yarn or drop stitches. In the U.S. I can only get US 2 and 4 in 24” or 32”.
My first interchangeables were knit pro zing. Great until I treated myself to chiaogoos. They are a dream. No snagging at all. I cannot go back to the knit pro. I also had knit pro fixed and they snagged even more. So I would definitely recommend chiaogoo. I do like my king pro zing single pointed needles. The tips are nice and pointy. Great for lace. I had to use some old old needles last week as I didn’t want to take my zings out of a WIP. Ended up buying another pair of zings.
Thanks for the review. I had hoped for more of the cables, if you bare with me, I will look for a review on the cables but it is a hard task to find... You may give a short comment on the cables, are they good for Magic Loop? I have found, but I am such an amateur, that it is the cables that bugs me the most. KnitPro was my first interchangeable needles and after 4 years I like them all very much! Metal, wood, long, short.... But the cables.... They are too stiff. All Knitpro needles I like, but no cable is good enough for me. I wish they could have cables of the quality as Chiaogoo or Addi. For Magic Loop. Even the Mindful cables aren´t good enough. And they didnt join well to my Knitpro needles, I have to be aware of which end I connect to which needle!!! I love magic loop, and even with a rotating cable, what you want is a soft cable!! ..The yarn stucks where the cable goes into the metal, as many have mentioned, in many different brands with "rotating" cables. I love the Symphonie needles, but there is also a large "jump" between where the cable ends and the needle begins. It is not nice to have to push the knits with force on to the needle. (maybe I have old versions of rotating Symphony needles?). Maybe it has something to do with the technique, I am scandinavian so we knit a bit differently. So, I eventually buy a few Chiagoo just to try, and I do love the cables but not the needles, but then I havent tried them all, it´s darn expensive to try all needles and cables there is. Addis cables are great for magic loop but after a while I must try straighten them out, I so love magic loop so...
I think it's the price for the type of wood. Knit Pro are birch and lantern are ebony wood which is probably more expensive and you've pointed out that they have this 24 karat gold connections - it may build the price. I'm using knit pro ginger special collection - for everything I do. They are the short ones and for me they are universal cause I may use them for short cables to make hats or socks - I love them. I would like to buy some more needles and I was thinking od lantern moon - now I'm hesitating
I have used my Lantern Moon quite a few times since I filmed this video (as they're attached to the cable and if I need 4mm needles I just grab them) and I'm enjoying them. Just not sure about the price but it's probably the Ebony wood.
