Loyalty and decency is worth so much more than money for most Laotian women. As a Westerner, you can easily support a Laotian family by teaching English in Laos, or even with minimal wage seasonal work in most western countries. Once you learn the Lao language, you will be able to start a business for like a 4th of the effort compared to the west and minimal bureaucracy, just remember to keep it low key so the corrupt officials and cops 'dun sniff you out as easy prey and bring the Farang tax-hammer down on you.

As I understand it, this law would probably rarely be enforced unless the relationship was flaunted or , I would guess, if a local guy felt jilted by the farang being with his girlfriend/ex.
