Today we take an in depth look at the new-ish Laowa Nanomorphs, the smallest Anamorphics on the market. In this video run through every lens and in a studio test as well as some more run and gun editorial style shots.
Kinda crazy how the nanomorphs compare to the Mercurys. The Mercurys have a way more traditional anamorphic look. I own the Nanomorphs and I like them, but they do lack that traditional anamorphic look. Think they’re both great options but I def prefer the Mercurys, granted they’re a different price point. I would think you guys would love the Nanomorphs since you guys had a lot of gripes with the Mercurys. Interested in hearing your opinion on them?
I like the nanomorph look, it's well balanced with retaining resolution but is also subtly doing enough to the image to create a different effect, plus they are so small. It's a great best of both worlds middle option. Just wished they were a little faster.
Image wise, how do you feel these compare to the Viltrox Epic? They're both 'clean' anamorphics with minimal character, but I haven't seen footage from the Nanomorphs that have the same 'pop' I've seen with the Epics. Having used both, what do you think?
What camera are the opening shots? Alexa Mini LF? Asking because sensor size matters... I have a full frame camera and debating if I wish to crop when using these lens made for S35/APSC sensor.
