Today we talk all about doing a lap of Australia with your dog. We've seen so many people on the road with pets and one of our most asked question is, what do with do with Archie when visiting National Parks, or where do we find pet sitters!
Only once in our entire lap of Australia were we not able to find anyone to look after Archie, so we'll take you through the steps we used to find a pet sitter anywhere is Australia.

We are Hannah, Chris and dog Archie, setting off on a 12(ish) month trip around Australia - our BIG Staycation, with the whole of Australia as our backyard! Great video. We are presently 6 weeks into our 5 month half lap with our Greyhound. We also did a 5 month trip last year. My biggest tip is to know your dog. You know you can leave Archie in the van without much worry. Ace is the same. A typical Greyhound "couch potato". Extremely "layed back". Ace is almost always off lead when we are around. Our main concern here is that he is very friendly with other people and dogs. He likes to approach them to say g'day. Most other dogs don't mind this but their owners can be different. Fortunately he knows that when we say NO he is not to continue to approach. His recall is extremely good. National Parks are an issue but there are plenty of other things to see in this amazing country. We prefer "non-touristy" destinations with less "rules" anyway.

Yes, same here. Archie sounds very similar to Ace! He’s super friendly and we were always very conscious that some people don’t like dogs, and some dogs don’t like other dogs too!! 🐕‍🦺

All good things come to an end and it will be sad not to have a weekly 'fix' of your travels. A good summary of tips for future adventurers with canine friends, however. Well done on the success of your 'trek'.

Thanks guys for the info, we are just about to embark on our big lap with our two toy poodles. With the previous info you have given us and this one today we want to say a BIG THANK YOU for your help in us preparing ourselves, couldnt have done it without you:) We are very excited, 2 weeks today we will be heading to SA to start our lap. Do you think you will do another lap or have different adventures in the future ? what are you plans from here ? sorry for all the questions, just we will miss your videos as we have really taken in lots of info and enjoyed your comentary very much. Wow only 2 weeks to go, how exciting!! Maybe we’ll do another lap one day, but for now we’ll just do the occasional short trip away! We still have plenty of videos to come yet 😜

Hi guys hope you’ve settled back into city life & going well. Thanks for video it was very informative. When in bate areas did you actually use a muzzle for Archie? Or is it safe to keep on a short lead when walking. Like crossing the Nullabor it’s not like we’d give them free rain to run around. What are your thoughts?

Hey there! I suppose it depends on your dog, we know we can trust Archie and his recall is excellent so we didn’t use the muzzle unless we were warned about heavy baiting, even then it was only a couple of times! A short lead should generally be ok if you keep a close eye on them though! Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching! 👍
