THANK YOU SO MUCH I APPRECIATE YOU I AM DUE FOR HERNIA SURGERY SOON AND WAS READY TO BACK OUT UNTIL YOU GAVE ME STRENGTH TO GO THROUGH WITH THE SURGERY 😊🌈💥🙏🏿
thank you so much for this video. I just had my surgery yesterday and am going through everything u mention in the video. this makes me feel so much better. I couldnt rly find exactly what I was looking for about this so well done! Im also 23 and very active so you can imagine how worried I am lol
Hei man, i just came out of surgery 2 hours ago, feelin good overall… a bit of pain in the lower abdomen, i had bilateral hernia. Thanks for the video, male my morale go up. Much love
WATERYxWATERMELON Hey, I’m glad it helped! I know it’s a scary thing, but you will be ok, I promise! I was a nervous wreck, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be in my head. It was pretty uncomfortable, but it’s not unbearable, and the recovery is pretty quick. Good luck!
Had my surgery 2 years ago and still having daily pain that limits my life. Still looking for fixes and finding nothing sadly (hence watching this video). From my research I'd recommend having non-mesh surgery if anyone is preparing for this. Also see if you really do need the surgery (many actually don't), especially if you're young as apparently younger patients have higher chance of chronic pain (I was 38, which is considered young apparently). Wish I'd never had my surgery. May God be merciful and grant anyone preparing to have this surgery better luck than I had. Wishing anyone reading this a full recovery.
Thanks brother, just had my surgery yesterday and I’m now in recovery. Thanks for the confidence and thanks for making this video! Hope you’re fully recovered by now!
TheSnypist8 Hey, I hope your recovery does well. I am fully recovered but after two years I will say that I can wear anything snug around the waist...I think it causes pressure on the mesh and causes some discomfort. Nothing horrible, and maybe not something that happens to everyone. Other than that I’m completely fine! Good luck!
Thanks for this video. I'm scheduling my surgery this fall, after I finish remodeling. You are so right about the social effect of that bulge, and the main reason why I want to get it done is because I want to gain more confidence in social situations. Thanks again!
I’ve done this procedure on Friday today is day 2 🤞🏻🤞🏻I don’t take pain killers not even Tylenol I guess I’m just gonna have to man up 🥴btw very helpful 👏🏻💯
I am actually feeling almost 100 percent normal. I can do everything I was able to do before the surgery, but there is still slight general discomfort. It is definitely better than before. Today makes seven weeks since surgery. Catheter will typically be used anytime you are under general anesthesia, I believe. They insert it, and take it out while you are still knocked out.
I just had this procedure (aug 21,2019) I’m doing petty good I have five or six small inscions on my lower torso, yeah my first pee was painful as well The surgeon took a picture of the herniated mass, it’s as big as a freakin apple. I’m glad the robotic assist surgery was available to me, the previous style seems much more painful Thanks for the video
I had the op yesterday, Laparoscopic inguinal hernia, don't really have any swelling but the gas pain is pretty bad, every time i move i feel the c02 bubbles move around. Managed to go for a 6k step walk, just a bit hunched over and tight, probably shouldn't have done that until a few days in though. I had zero pain peeing, no issues there, just very constipated!
I had the surgery a little over 3 weeks ago; laparoscopic with the robot. The first couple days were really rough with the gas have to dissipate and swollen testicles. However that is gone now, and I feel a whole lot better! Prob about 70-75%? I’m still experiencing some achiness and minor discomfort in the muscle band area just above the groin, it’s pretty intermittent but I feel it more the more physical I try and be. The dr said it’s normal and should resolve in a few weeks, so here’s to being back to normal soon!
In 2003 I had 'open' hernia repair with mesh inside and out on my right groin hernia. PAIN for 2 weeks. Work restriction for 2 months to get to the level of pain I did not need prescription pain pills to sleep. Work would not let me return until I was off the pain meds for 2 weeks. About 3 weeks to not need them to sleep. Lifting restrictions for work. 2022 I noticed my left groin showing signs of a hernia. This time they did it "Robot assisted laparoscopic' with mesh only on the inside. The first night I slept on my back with 2 pillows. 600mg 'over the counter' ibuprofen. The next day as soon as the drug store was open I got the prescription strength Ibuprofen, prescription strength stool softener/laxative. The Dr had also sent in a prescription for strong pain pills but I did not get them as I was already in much less pain than the first hernia repair. I am thru my first full week and not even taking the big ibuprofen except at bed time. The lifting restrictions for this surgery will let me do what took another month after I was back at work the last time.
I'm on day 3 post op, Davinci Robot. Had an umbilical hernia(Belly button) for 10 years, always holding it when I coughed, etc. Finally decided to have it fixed last month. Went to see surgeon and discovered I also had Bilateral Inguinal hernias (Groin, both sides)! HAD NO IDEA! After surgery I was told I had 2 on the left and 1 on the right. Never had surgery before on anything. I'm 52. Like Adam said, first couple days are uncomfortable, but, not as bad as I expected. FOR SURE, WALK, it will make the process better for you. A Little at a time, more every time you do. Do not stay idle on the recliner. PISS SLOWLY! LOL Ice over towel on wounds here and there.
Great video. I am in day 6 after my laparscopic inguinal hernia surgery. It's been a rough road as far as pain and swelling in the left testicle up until today. But I was told that was expected since my hernia would bulge in my left scrotum. Today it's still swollen but the pain in there has improved quite a bit overnight. Onward and upward. Hope you're doing well now.
Thanks mate , pretty encouraging, I am exactly like you , badly scared at this moment because I have been diagnosed with Inguinal Hernia. Let’s wait and see how it goes but I believe there’s no alternative. I got to go for operation.
really appreciate this video!! am 21 year old male and developed a Inguinal hernia on my left side a couple days ago. been have some serious testicle aches and going to doctors next week to get it figured out and see my options. Im assuming I will be going the laparoscopic method and this vid has relieved the stress I've been going through! Still scared of surgery and post opp but I heard it's not as bad as imagined.
shar Hey, I know what you mean about the “nit aches,” it felt like I was taking a hit to the boys several times a day! I believe that laparoscopic mesh surgery is the most common method used, so most likely that’s what you will have depending on the size and whatnot. It wasn’t a pleasant experience, but it was definitely bearable, and I’m happy I finally had it done. I still have aches in the area that the mesh is in...but nothing like it was before surgery. Good luck man!
@@Adam-vv4qu Do they cut through muscles? I don't have more muscles but little abdominal fat.. I.m worried about the pain. Hope you can see my comment. Cheers mate
@@leonpancho Feel perfect to be honest. today marks 2 weeks since my surgery and it feels as if I never had one to begin with. Really happy with my operation and progress made. first 3-4 days are rough but after it gets a lot better
Ed here, had this surgery yesterday and yes the peeing burnt badly like soap. only taking tylenol, didnt need any painkillers. this is picnic compared to prostate surgery/recovery. I am 64 yrs. old. only thing now is waiting on bowel movement of which antibiotics can cause.
not sure if anyone mentioned this but u don't always get a catheter. i did not have one and had no issues peeing after. i had laproscopic / robotic surgery with dissolveable mesh call Phasix. as for the cath, i think it may depend if the bladder is holding too much liquid
4 days post Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia repair. Incisions are fine but man is there a LOT of swelling in the groin area. Anyone else experience this? If so how long did it last?
Yes, the swelling can at times be scary, but I was assured that it was normal (and it was a lot of swelling). It very slowly gets better. Even though I was nearly pain free six weeks out, the swelling still made things a bit uncomfortable. Wear loose pants. Slightly too big elastic waist bands became a must for me. After about four weeks the swelling would come and go. Sometimes I felt normal only to swell up later on. Hang in there, it will get better! I did have quite a bit of pain in the testicle on the side of my hernia. I believe all the blood and such from the surgery drains down into the testicles which causes swelling and pain until your body absorbs all that fluid. That’s how it was explained to me anyway, hang in there…it will all subside!
On day 5 of my recovery! had an inguinal hernia repaired laparoscopically with mesh. hernia was on my left side groin area. In my opinion, the operation is nothing to sweat about. The first 2 days were the worst and by worst I mean just some real serious soreness (didn't feel much pain aside from the soreness). you will not be able to move very easily and I needed help from my father to get around anywhere. But let me tell you the recovery time was so fast for me. by day 3 I was up on my own slowly walking around places with still some soreness. The soreness went away day 4 as I continued to make sure and walk around as much as I can. Currently speaking I am doing really well right now, no soreness at all just some minor discomfort in the area where mesh was placed. It does still hurt to cough and if you get the sensation of sneezing may god help you cause it will feel like a knife getting jabbed in you. Stopped all hard narcotics (prescribed pain pills, which i was given Hydrocodone, 10mg) on day 3. Make sure you get up and try to walk a bit everyday! it really expedites the healing process and minimizes scar tissue. walking is essential to get the blood flow and muscle workout your body needs after surgery. But in conclusion, do not fear getting an operation done. I can't say what the experience is like for open surgery but my recovery was a testament to the efficiency that is the laparoscopic method. *also do some research on your surgeon ahead of time* *make sure they are board-certified and have plenty of experience* *also the anesthesiologist is incredibly important too (they are essentially in charge of you coming back to life when knocked out under general anesthesia*
Just read on a site that a couple drops of peppermint oil rubbed on your abdomen post surgery and a heating pad on your abdomen can help eliminate the pain in the shoulder from the CO² and help eliminate intestinal gas, too. Also read that doing the downward dog yoga position so your butt is in the air will help move the CO² gas back into the abdomen so that it doesn't hurt as much. Another point made was that the CO² gas irritates the peritoneum and dries it out which causes the pain. Sounds fucking miserable! Oh, I would love to ignore my hernias (bilateral inguinals), but I'm going to have to take care of them (laporo). Bummer! Fuck!
I think they stitched the mesh to a part of my abdomen which is involved in lifting my leg. It’s been a couple days since the surgery and it hurts like hell to lift that leg even to put my shorts on. I can feel the stitches tugging and pulling. Not fun
Interesting I guess they didn’t do a catheter on me, I didn’t have any pain when urinating post-op. They did put me under w general anesthesia though, and I definitely felt really groggy the entire day and part of the next.
Just read about that. They catheterize you for laparoscopic surgery to decompress your bladder so the have plenty of room to work. Nice of them not to say shit about it until they do it. Then to not mention it after, "Oh, BTW, we stuck a rubber tube in your dick after we knocked you out so we didn't have to hear you scream so expect a burn when you pee." No, not a word. Bitches!
Im at 3 months post surgery did u still feel pain while standing or walking too much and wearing jeans oh and also sitting for too long when u were at the 3 month mark.
Brutal, worst then i thought,i got a sore throat from the breathing tube that they must have jammed down throat, like you didnt know my dick was going to have something jammed in it.Dick was sore, cut stomach 3 times, now pain where the mesh was placed at day 5.I could picture a old person dieing from this surgery.LOL..I thought it was a simple thing,i was wrong its a major toll to recover from.Be 2 weeks to do manual labor job.3weeks for a real hard job!
I had surgery almost 2 years ago now - still feel my surgery and have daily pain that limits my life. Wish I didn't have the surgery. For anyone looking into it i recommend don't have it if you can (I.e. Small hernias), especially if you're younger than 50 as the younger you are the higher your chance of long term pain apparently. Also I'd recommend not having the mesh. Best of luck to anyone reading this.
Shen Ken I would say the swelling lasted about a month. It subsided very slowly. Some days it seemed like I wasn’t swollen at all only to be swollen the next day. I believe it’s normal but as a disclaimer I’m not a doctor, so if you’re concerned I would schedule a follow up! I should think that the swelling would be mild at this point for you.
Hey, thanks alot for this video! I wanted to ask you from the day of surgery until when do you start to feel normal again in daily activies, like around what time period u think?
Cristian, I would say that I had some really good days in the first six weeks with, but I was still having days where I felt I was going “backwards” in recovery and would start to worry, but after six weeks It was almost like nothing happened. 3.5 months later most of my days I don’t feel anything at all, but there are still times if I’m in certain positions such as sitting “Indian style” on the floor where I will have some minor discomfort. It doesn’t last long though, and is still much more comfortable than before the surgery. Not to mention, I no longer have that unsightly bulge. After about two weeks you can do most of your daily activities but your body will remind you to take it a little slower than usual. I read somewhere that internal healing can last up to six months, but that doesn’t mean you’re in pain all of that time.
Snap McChat Oh wow thats very good information to know cause I'm on day 7 today and the post op pain is barely subsiding but I appreciate you giving me some tips and things like that to know what to kinda of expect.
How do you feel over a year after the surgery? More importantly around your groin area and where the mesh was placed? I have had a hernia for 2 years or so and I’m just scared to get surgery cause of the surgery itself and long term issues. My understanding is I am able to get a laparoscopic surgery if I go for it.
Julian Lopez I did not, no. I spoke with the surgeon and he advised to not get it. At least not now. He said it’s so minor and doesn’t affect me much that it just wasn’t worth it at the moment.
@@user-nj6rk5xs1m Damn that sucks, sorry to hear that. I still need to see a general surgeon to see what he recommends and if it even is a hernia. I'll still keep what you said in mind
@@user-nj6rk5xs1m mesh manufacturing companies may have financial linked to national and international hernia societies. They are co organizier for doctors seminar, conferences nationally and internationally in a regular basis and providing expenses, sometimes they organizing training program and provide fellowship under some institution for beginners . So, the giant companies invest huge money to promote their products even FDA can't take necessary actions against them, exept banned a particular product ,If the product once banned they back to the market again with onother one. Their nexus among some doctors, corporate hospitals are very strong. A lobby always works for their advertisement, paid promotion on social media, They controls and influence over some doctors and scientists in the name of sponsorship so, lecture on seminar, randomized control trial and research publication in a medical journal are not free from their influence. Actually everything is controlled by market economy.
Hey im 3 months out of surgery and I was feeling pretty good but then I started feeling the original pain on my surgery.. Is that normal have u experienced any pain like that where u feel good then u feel some pain come on?
I am now six months out now, and still feel, on rare occasions, slight reminders in the form of minor cramps. At around three months I was still feeling small stabs of pain, and couldn’t sit very long with my legs crossed “Indian style” on the floor. If it’s something that is concerning you, I would definitely see the doctor, but it’s not uncommon to still be feeling some slight discomfort after three months. I’ve read in many places that the healing can sometimes takes six months to a year to complete.
Snap McChat oh ok I get you and its weird cause I was feeling pretty good but I started going out alot and the pain started to comeback not as strong but its there and I just dont wanna go thru it again.. Is there any other way to contact you?
Did you have swelling where the hernia was? I'm a week out and have had no reduction at all in swelling and still feel very uncomfortable like somebody kicked me in the privates. Like the discomfort of being kicked there. I feel like this is not normal being a week out from the surgery. Found this video while waiting for the doctor or nurse to call me back lol
George Smith Actually, yes. I had fluid where the hernia was for about two week. I remember the feeling of being kicked in the nether regions. That lasted a few weeks actually but subsided gradually. I experienced some days where it seemed swelling went down dramatically only to be swollen the next day. I was really worried about that, but was assured it was normal. I would say around six weeks the swelling was almost non existent. It seemed like I would never get back to normal but I did. It’s been a little over a year, and I admit I do still have some minor aching down there...mainly when my pants are too tight, but it’s nothing severe and doesn’t really interfere with my day to day activities.
@@Adam-vv4qu I did hear back from the nurse and she said all my symptoms do sound normal but the swelling, she thought, should have gone down some. So still waiting to hear back from the doc and if not I made an appointment to go in in a few days. Thanks for letting me know your experience. Sounds like it took you a while as well. I was getting worried because it seems like every video I watch they are all doing so much better than me lol. Anyways, thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Adam. I really am not looking forward to mine. I keep putting it off. Dual lap. Ugh. Why don't they let the gas out? Torturers! Catheter? Is that normal? Female catheters are 4". Male catheters are 8"-10". Been there. Prostate problems. Sounds like they didn't use enough lube on insertion. Very interesting! Searching the web for the catheter, none of the hospital sites say shit about it. They don't mention shaving either. Makes me wonder what else they do they don't tell you about. I sat on a herniated disk in my low back for 2 years due to insurance and a new job. Now that was a excrutiating. Holy shit. Yeah, the bulge. Ugly. I've got two. One on each side. Fun. Not. Gross.
Helpful video, thanks. How do you feel now, Any pain? Worried about the mesh, you hear things about people having chronic pain. I also thought they only put a catheter if you can't pee?
