I had bilateral laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery two weeks ago. I'm 51 now and I'd left mine for 32 years before plucking up the courage to get them fixed. I've always managed to remain active, fit and healthy and they never bothered me with the support I used to wear. In recent years they'd grown quite big but despite that the surgeon has done a fantastic job. I was off pain meds after day 3, doing a few miles a day on the exercise bike in week 1. Took my dressings and tape off today at the end of week 2. Virtually no pain and no restrictions to light activities. I'm looking forward to getting in the gym in a few more weeks. I think I was probably at the extreme end with the size mine had got, but even so, recovery has been really quick. Anyone thinking about it, don't leave it as long as I did. It should be a really simple and relatively pain free procedure with a couple of days of mild discomfort.
Thanks for sharing. I watched your videos before having the same surgery two weeks ago. They helped me feel less anxious about it, hearing your detailed account of it and your recovery.
Good day, I too live in Minnesota(St. Paul), and am having bi-lateral surgery on Sept. 6th, and I have never had surgery, and am 50 years old. So, for the past four weeks of waiting so far, I've been just a wreck. I extremely nervous of what to expect pain-wise. You mentioned that your fear was that the pain would be like someone stabbing you in the gut, but I don't think you explained what it actually felt like. Can you please give me a general idea of what kind of pain to expect, if not stabbing pain? I understand that every ones experience can be different, but there must be a generalized idea of the pain considering our anatomy is the same. I'd be interested to hear.
Thank you for asking, but.... after talking with the surgeon the day before, I guess there was a misunderstanding on my part as far as how bad my hernias are. Yes, I do have two hernias, but I was told they were small, and was not in need of surgery right now. I decided to hold off on having it done simply because they are not affecting my quality of life, and I am not in any pain, so I really do not want to have surgery if it isn't necessary. He says I may go for a long time before it becomes an issue, so I'd rather just watch and wait for now.
Thanks for the video dude. I have been doing extremely in depth research since I need to have a bilateral inguinal Hernia repair surgery. I’ve had it for about 5 years and finally going to get it fixed. Either going to be laparoscopic or robotic. How’s everything going so far man? I’m an avid bodybuilder and weight lift 5x a week and a little worried about when I can get back to it. Have you been able to get back to 100% weight lifting? I’m thinking of documenting my surgery and everything too lol
Wow I noticed your Minnesota sweatshirt. I'm from Minnesnowta, too. So you still can't feel the mesh? How are you doing now, still good? (There are still videos about people saying Don't get the mesh!) Thanks for helping others going through what you did.
I'm feeling good! No pain whatsoever, I don't feel the mesh at all. Although my hernia was tiny, so I can't really speak for anyone else that had a larger one who got the mesh as well. The first couple weeks suck, but after that it's really not bad at all. Especially if you're young.
It really makes you realize how much you use your abdominal muscles for just about everything you do. I'm grateful to be healthy once again and on this beautiful planet. I was in pain for over a year before I got the surgery, and I pray nobody else waits or is embarrassed to get it done like I was. That's why I made these videos. Hopefully I could help, and hopefully it gets warmer here in Minnesota!
I actually got 2 hernias in the same day lol. One was inguinal that was really bothersome, and the other one is umbilical. I got the inguinal one repaired and left the umbilical one untreated because it is very tiny and doesn't bother me whatsoever.
@@wardenxghost9113 No it doesn't sound stupid to me because I like testing my limits being physically active a lot. After surgery, we wouldn't want to go through it again, so I think some people are always going to have a 10% fear of doing their full efforts again.
