I have this exact same yoga laptop, and after extensive testing including all the testing done in this video I have concluded that the issue is actually simply the charging cable itself, specifically the male USB port. I replaced the female DC port, the battery, the motherboard and was not able to turn the laptop on. I went through 3 chargers and tested the first 2 chargers with the most recent replacement male charging cable and the old chargers both worked, leaving me to believe that the proprietary male USB port for this laptop wears down very quickly. So now the solution is simply purchasing ONLY a new charging cable, not the charging base, but only the cable to fix the issue. That has kept my laptop up and running for years. Hope this helps and keeps anyone else from spending a lot of money trying to figure out a solution!
@@rickyurrutia9182 Here is a link to purchase only the charging cable alone which should work with your current charger if you have the USB kind. uspowerfactory.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67_70&products_id=188771&gclid=CjwKCAjwydP5BRBREiwA-qrCGvKXVrnDw2ZCFgxGhIC5eivQM9SvABPKW9qCi76h7sle-Qoftw7yCxoCruoQAvD_BwE If you are looking for an entirely new charger you can find any number of 3rd party versions sold on amazon but like I pointed out in my original comment on this thread, I believe you only need to replace the charging cable, not the entire charging unit.
Thanks for the info. I gave the client the laptop back due to time restraint/covid-19/and another issue so unfortunately I don't have it anymore, but I would go with your findings as I had the same conclusion...! Get in touch if you can....!
There are six pins on the charging cable, the two outer pins are linked to each other and connect to the two outer pins at the other end. It is these which determine whether the AC adapter should output 5v or 20v. In my case, this connection was broken somewhere along the cable, and thus there was only 5v output from the charger. As the outer pins do not exist on the USB tester mentioned in the video, it will only determine if the charger is outputting 5v. Pin 5 of the DC-in cable where it connects to the motherboard should read 20v. Again I was only seeing 5v here. A change of charging cable fixed my problem. Hope this of help to anyone with the same issue.
I'm not so sure about this. I couldn't wait 2 months where I live for post on the basis it nay be the solution.. After reading this I pulled apart the cable to examine. I then took an oldpower supply and ran the 20v down the 5th pin with the negative on the 2nd. Heard a small pop.inside the laptop and now will not turn on even under battery so I suspect a dead motherboard now!!!! There are three wires Blue runs to both outer pins it is a small gauge wire Black negative runs to 2nd pin medium gauge wire White positive carries the 5v under normal testing medium gauge wire. To me this doesn't answer my question. Maybe it's the blue wire that is neat yo carry the 20v....?? Or I may have had a faulty plug as it appeared that some voltage was going down the 6th /1st pin,and it wasn't completely empty on ohms test between.
I've never actually seen a charging cable that looks similar to a USB, usually they are rounded with a small metal pin in the middle for power, but this honestly looks like there is a problem with the small cable that is responsible for bridging the connection between the charging port and the motherboard, because you plugged your phone into the laptop charger and it works, but there is no amperage reading coming from the red and black terminals on those small pins, that's why alot of times fans might spin when you press the power button that's what the voltage will do, but you need the right amount of amperage to turn the system to get a signal to the screen.
The Yoga 900 requires a 19 volts DC input. Check you power supply output. The 19-Voltes comes from a different pin than the 5 Volts USB pins. The connector you complain about is a dual function connector. When not being used to power the laptop it can be used as a USB, Again read your power pack output label. The testing device you used its not applicable to determine the laptop power issue.
Thanks for that but unfortunately had to give the laptop back the next day! Yo sound like you know what you are talking about, feel free to get in touch please for future issues, thanks!
Correct... this is what I found... Amy idea how I can find the pin outs that Cary the 20v so I can make an adapter as will take about 8-10 weeks to order a new cable or power supply.
@@HealMyTech1 There is a design fault with Lenovo Yoga laptops, Many laptops fail and need new motherboard. I had replaced my charger with another that works, They are a goo laptop when they work i have four of these and three have power issues. I will not but another the costs of replacing the mother board is more than the costs of a second hand laptop. LENOVO NEVER AGAIN
Hi! I plugged in my Charger to my computer, and my computer won’t turn on. When I hit the power button, it won’t light but the light on the left that is indicating that it’s charging is flashing and turning off.
Sir my pc is not booting while I plugged RAM on both slot. I tried many different ways. Then I sorted it out that one of my RAM slot is not working. Both my RAM is in perfect condition. How to fix it? I would be greatful to you. Please help me out. Motherboard-Asus H61
Your forgetting that the adapter is dual voltage output at 20v 3.25a . I was hoping to find Pin outs for voltage. There is no 20v on my adaptor if I test it. There has been aftermarket adapters apparently that had all the assorted plugs including this one so the way I see it I just need to find out which two pins carry the 20v and what polarity. I'm minumin 4-6 weeks order to fix and ordering another charger and it may not sort the issue of course.. My pin 3 and 4 has no continuity and also the outside. My thoughts are there is a possibility that the transformer has a switch ic when it recognises that it is connected ... or there is a part in the laptop that has to tell the supply that it is connected to then carry the 20v. Opening the cablethere are only three wires inside. 2nd pin = ground 3rd and 4th are nothing 5th pin carries 5v 1st and 6th pin are joined
Did the client receive any errors regarding the USB connection of the device? Or did they just notice that it was not powering the laptop? I have a similar issue with my lenovo yoga 900-13isk. It happened after a windows 10 update didn't install correctly. I received a USB error and since this particular laptop is unique in that it is powered by USB port I was unable to connect the laptop to power in order to revert back to a previous version of windows 10. I too went through the whole process of purchasing a new power supply, power cord and a battery. I ordered all of them from Lenovo. I replaced each component one at a time and tested for power disruptions and no matter what the combination I had the same results each time. The only thing I didn't replace was the cable connector because similarly I couldn't find a compatible pin connector. At this point i am wondering if it is a software issue with Windows 10 disrupting communication from my USB ports. What do you think?
I have a 900 13isk, no longer charging. Works great while it has battery life left but will not take charge anymore. Seems like a problem with this model. Anyone have any ideas what the issue is? Any help appreciated.
hello, I have the same Lenovo Yoga, and I'm getting gray screen randomly, specially when I change screen between carpets or website pages. Do you happen to know the reason? or any suggestion for me to help fix it. I will really appreciate the answer.
HealMyTech In that case it could be power adapter supplying motherboard with different voltages. The power socket looks like it has many terminals not just a simple positive and negative
I have the same Lenovo and had the same issue. Put charger on eave it for 5 minutes and then press power button and hold it until it turn on and off. My started charging after that.

@@CarlCorvin Guys, i had this problemlong time ago with my YOGA. I hadmy laptop on, did not touch nothing and it turned off radomly. What ia have done was to reload all the newwt drivers, and also I would advice to open the back case and clean the vents as this can cause overheating and the pc can turn off the pc for safety reasons.... hope this helps. As I have not doe anything else. But i had this probem for few monts and after all this, the problem was gone....could be some win update , or something i have done regarding the drivers. I figured it out! It's the $50 video cable that is killing the $500 laptop. Be careful, use a hairdryer and a razorblade to remove the display without cracking it. Then replace the cable. For some reason this was causing the computer to only run a few moments and flash "Lenovo" on the screen before the laptop would die. Now all is fine
