lapu-lapu is one of my favorite Filipino hero of all time. not only he killed Magellan, but also killed at least 30 men, which was told by a special friend of mind.

Thanks for the video. The monument for Magellan was damaged during the earthquake that's why they are retrofitting it. Filipinos especially Cebuanos are justifiably proud of Datu Lapulapu. Remember that in South America the Spaniards just rolled over the old indigenous people and their empires. In the Philippines, Lapulapu refused to be a subject of the Spaniards and won against the conquistadores.

E CABen- Magellan was a Portuguese explorer serving the Spanish crown, his mission: to find a route to the Moluccas browsing Spanish seas (respecting the Treaty of Tordesillas) The true conquest and colonization came with Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. Philippines did not exist before the arrival of the Spaniards. Lapu Lapu so it was not really "Filipino" was only the local chieftain of Mactan.

Love going through there, my wife's family lives in Lapu Lapu. Next to the shrine is an awesome seafood restaurant, as you enter you pick all the fish you want cooked ,tell them how you want it cooked and then go to your table. Beautiful outdoor seating with soft drinks and San Miguel's . I took my in-laws there and fed over 20 people for around $100. Had a great time!

last time I visited this place was 1997, took my NLE in Cebu and visited mactan. we climbed that lapu lapu shrine with our classmates...not anymore i guess..

Thanks for the video. I presently live north in baguio but i am considering buying a condo in cebu, mandue city or Lapu Lapu as an investment possibly in the future or as a full time residence? Maybe. Concidering the yearly tempetures possibility of typhoons etc, do you have any thoughts on that. I think being close to the second biggest airport in the philippines would help the investment values.

I think Magellan was wounded with a spear in that battle and died later aboard a ship. I think Lapu Lapu's tribe were invaders from Borneo or some other nearby Islands. Lapu Lapu tribe may have been colonist, a non indigenous tribe to the Philippines. He recognized the Spanish intentions as the same as his own.
