There is a video of this same performance with English subtitles. You should find it because the lyrics/story is absolutely heartbreaking. Also as another poster has already mentioned Lara Fabian has been an idol of democracy since he was a young child. If you really pay attention I'm sure you can hear her influence on his performances in the way that they both completely embody the song and express the emotions of the song through their performances. Not to mention Igor Krutoy wrote Love is like a dream which Lara performed 27 or 28 years ago. Lara also wrote Adagio and made that quite famous.

Maybe what you prefere in Lara is the intonation, all the different colour and atmosphere and the warmer voice than Celine that is very noisy and perhaps more focused by the technique. Celine Dion when you hear her you think: What a voice, what a technique, such power !
